PVC Lamps
Dan and 5 others reacted to frankorona for a topic
PVC Lamps Hello friends, I present one of my last works. I made them with PVC tubes 4 " Cut in half, and hand crafted with bow. Because there is not enough space for the bench press. I did not use Dremel, as it is I have no possibility of purchase. I hope you like the idea. Greetings and hugs to everyone from Puebla, Mexico.6 points -

Yesterday morning I got a call from the DEWALT authorized dealer and was told my replacement saw was in. I decided to play hooky from work yesterday afternoon and picked it up. Went to my shop and got that saw hooked up and tested it. Everything works correctly on it. Just after I finished setting up that saw here comes the UPS truck with my new Hawk BM 26. Spent the rest of the day setting it up as well. It cuts great straight out of the box but has just a little vibration that I need to solve but nothing major. The biggest issue is that I have to get use to changing blades on the Hawk. My plan is to use both saws. The DEWALT for thinner woods and the Hawk for thicker woods. I plan on being in the shop most of the weekend but most likely not touch either saw hardly at all. I already have several intarsia projects cut ready to shape. Going to se how well my dust collection works on my flexible drum sander works. i will let everyone know my opinion on the Hawk in a few weeks or so after I get used to it. Doesn't look like I am having the issues that Iggy had or is having. Brian4 points

New Iggy Offerings... Name Signs
Roberta Moreton and 3 others reacted to Iguanadon for a topic
Alright, I'd love everyone's thoughts and feedback. Looking into doing names... my artist for this is... Mrs. Iggy. Orangeman and I were discussing a couple of days ago and I had happened to see a video online recently showing the design being done in Inkscape and Mrs. Iggy is a computer graphic artist so I challenged her to learn how to do it. She watched some tutorial videos and she was off and running. I'm imagining coming up with maybe 6 different style/fonts and offering as a solid piece or as a puzzle. I actually prefer the solid piece option, but since I sell puzzles I figured I'd offer it as an option. I cut these 4 this morning and I plan on displaying them at my 2 day event this weekend and see if there's any interest. Iggy4 points -

Car Show tomorrow
Phantom Scroller and one other reacted to edward for a topic
I was asked to do a car show tomorrow, never done one before, as I do have a lot of cars in stock, my wife insisted that I do a car show we will see how it goes. My son in law has a 68 Roadrunner, which he will be taking there, and his friend has a 65 Mustang which he will also be there. I figure I would give it a try. edward2 points -

I keep dreaming of that... but my company is foolish enough to pay me way too much so I can't walk away from it. If they get rid of me though... I'll consider it.2 points

Hi everyone. I just finished this piece yesterday. This is a sample I made for a friend of mine. I want to thank Gordie for sending me the pattern plus a couple more he sent me. This one is made out of 3/4 Oak with a 1/8 B/B background. I know there colors are black and gold but I didn't want to take away from the Oak and paint it. I'll do one more out of pine and paint it black and gold and see which one looks better. Well I took Waynes advice and did this one with a black backer.1 point -

Leave the vacuum unit on the garage shelf. Just pipe the vacuum line from your saws into the Dust Deputy, even locate the Dust Deputy down on the garage floor or wherever it will be convenient to empty when it is needed, and then run the line from the top of the Dust Deputy up to the vacuum unit, wherever it is. It will then be so much easier and cleaner to empty the bucket under the Dust Deputy than it is to clean the filter bag on your vacuum unit. You will likely never have to clean this filter bag again if you do this. Charley1 point

My previous post was directed to member "rockytime" and his decision to sell his Dust Deputy before even trying to use it. My Dust Deputy was bought used from a commercial wood shop that was closing down. It cost me $35. I had been planning to buy a new Dust Deputy when this one became available, so this was just a cost saving for me. Before getting the Dust Deputy, I had been using the same re-purposed Whole House Vacuum System, but I was having to clean the cloth filter and container of the vacuum unit about once an hour when I was scroll sawing. These Dust Deputy's really work, and are surprising in how efficient they are at separating the dust from the vacuum air stream. Even if you don't vent your vacuum system to the outside, you will see a major improvement in how well your vacuum keeps working at it's peak, long after your filter bag in your vacuum would have been plugged up. I know several people who have Shop Vacs running for hours at a time in their shops and they have done this for several years. The motors in Shop Vacs are a very similar design to the motor in my Central Vacuum System, hand drills, circular saws, etc. except for size. They are all brush type universal motors, and eventually the brushes will wear out in all of them. The bearings may go bad in them too, but most of these motors will last many years before this happens. If you service these motors by cleaning and changing their bearings and brushes before they wear out, they will most likely last a a lifetime. If you fail to do this maintenance, you will be eventually be replacing the motor. Shop Vacs are now designed so that the cooling air for the motor is from the outside of the case and not part of the vacuum / dust air stream. Years ago when vacuum cleaners and shop vacs passed the dirty air stream through the motor to cool it the motors didn't last anywhere near as long as they do now. I know one woodworker who presently has several shop vacs installed under his shop, one for each source of sawdust, and all of them have no filters in them. He vents these shop vacs through over size pipes into the wooded area next to his shop. He can get away with this, but most of us, including me, have close neighbors who wouldn't approve of us doing this with all of our sawdust. The air coming out of my Central Vacuum that I vent outdoors is cleaner than the exhaust from most central vacuums in houses, because the Dust Deputy is removing more than the fabric filter in my vacuum ever did without the Dust Deputy. Since most central vacuums in homes also vent to the outdoors, their micro fine household dust is getting blown outside, where most of mine is not. Charley1 point

Hi Charley, Thank you for your response and suggestions. Unfortunately the edge of the garage roof is over the shop so no attic space. The shelf the vacuum is on is too close to the ceiling for the Dust Deputy to stand upright. Also I do not worry too much about dust as I only spend a couple hours a week scrolling, spend a little time turning pens, a little time finishing a small steam engine and work nearly full time repairing antique clocks. I don't have a lot of time to spend in my shop. My clock shop and machine tools are in the basement where most of my time is spent. My dust collector has been in the garage for several years sitting on the floor, now it is up on a shelf out of the way. It has never been a problem.1 point

I understand how getting burned by the Canadian Harbor Freight Equivalent might burn folks, but still, It doesn't make sense that the Tawain manufacturer would intentionally drop their standards to make a saw for King of lesser quality. King does not make that saw, they re-brand that saw. King's pricing for this saw isn't in line with the pricing of their other tools, right? I know, the Harbor freight junk scrollsaw is very inexpensive. Then finally, Woodcraft certainly isn't in the habit of selling Harbor Freight quality tools. I would be shocked if these saws are of lesser quality that the EXs this same manufacturer made before them, but you never know. ------Randy1 point

Preventive Maintenance and tightening for Excalibur 21
heppnerguy reacted to Gonzo for a topic
Not to mention, adding a dab, and just a dab, of Vaseline (or similar) to where the white tensioning lever meets the aluminum. When I bought both of my EX's, there was a dab of white grease there. Every so often, I'll clean that area and add clean Vaseline . I like Scrappiles suggestion of cleaning and anti-seizing the threads.1 point -
Preventive Maintenance and tightening for Excalibur 21
heppnerguy reacted to Scrappile for a topic
Pretty much said in my manual when I had it, to keep it clean, brush it off once and a while and use it. My manual said it had sealed bearings no maintenance to do there, I do not know if you can add grease to sealed bearings. I don not know much about bearings. I did, (not mentioned in the manual maintenance section) every so often remove the clamp thumb screws, remove the tip, clean it and make sure it could turn pretty easily, clean the threads on the thumbscrew and in the clamp (pipe cleaner works) and add a small dab of "anti-seize" the threads of the thumbscrews... both top and bottom ones. Remember you are screwing a steel screw into aluminum. That needs care. Wax the table top once and a while. Check for loose bolts, screws and nuts. That is about it.1 point
