    Finished pattern

Just finished this yesterday. A friend of mine wanted to know if I could do a Hockey plaque like the baseball one that Steve Good had on. I put in a pattern request and it got 30 reviews but no pattern. I was getting ready to delete the request when DonR made this pattern for me. He did a great job and my friend loved it. I want to give a special thanks to Don for taking the time to do this for me. I don't know what we would without these pattern makers that we have on here. Thanks to all of you that do the patterns for all of us that don't know how. It is really appreciated. Thanks again DonR

    Weekend Project

Katie I am retired so I spend almost every day in the shop. I just got through putting together a new Woodpecker router table I bought. I am excited about putting it to work. I also built my two grandsons a golf ball display rack that holds a hundred golf balls. They collect golf balls from different colleges. This will be their Christmas present. I will post a picture of one of them below. I now have to get started making my wife and daughter a box for Christmas. Okay now for the weekend. I am going to make a jig so I can cut a bevel on a 6"x 13" x 1/2" thick maple. I am going to cut the bevel on the table saw. It's probably been six weeks since I have done any scrolling. Hopefully after making the boxes I will get back to scrolling. Here is a picture of one of the racks.

  7. I'm amazed at what people will do for what they want. This customer wanted 4hot pink and 4 black ,Name Barbie.I spent all day trying to knock it out.Problems started happening and slowed me down to a stand still almost .I had cut plywood ready for projects already taped off but they were in the sun with the warehouse door open every day Not good,i struggled to clean off the goo from the sun baked masking tape on 64 letters.then voids in the plywood showed up,and then new cans of spray paint were bode dry and made a mess.I have an old delta scroll saw missing parts that i turned into a paint can shaker but it didn't help much. But the more i used the paint the better it came out and had to flood the projects to melt in the bad dry paint flat.i finished the project minutes before she showed up.All neatly separated in a short box so they stay apart and not mix the colors. She was very happy and wants more work soon. All this came from "Offer Up" an app on my phone .Seems like every time i post something i get an order for something different.so i don't have to deleted sold items they just keep bringing customers!I threw in Sweets her nickname free. And i finished Steve Goods angel

    Table Waxing

Don't know what the weather is in your locations, but here in the Midwest USA, it is a marvelous day to drag the saw out onto the patio, blow it clean, scrub the table and apply a couple of coats of wax to the table. The sun has moved around to the south , but is still plenty strong to heat up the table and open the pores to get a good deep coat on it. Went for two coats while I was out there.

  14. I just got notification in the mail yesterday that my 30" excelsior has been shipped from King's headquarters in Montreal on Sept 14th so the local regional sales rep should be bringing it to me anytime... I struck a deal to review the saw in a blog in exchange for a deep discount. My goal this weekend is to carve out some space in my garage for it...

    Weekend Project

Once I finish the "Honey Do List" I am going to put the finishing touches on this sign and hang it up on the house. Not sure how it will stand up to the Canadian winters but it was a fun project. Then I am going to to try my hand at a couple of dog puzzles, cant wait to start them.

  17. When I got my DeWalt scroll saw, I followed the manual's directions on installing the blades. They called for putting the blade in the bottom clamp first, then into the top clamp. I had a lot of trouble with getting the blade into the bottom clamp, since I can't see what I am doing. Also, I have hand tremors, which make it difficult to do anything which requires a steady hand, so I often ended up with the blade in backwards. Lately I have been putting the blade into the top clamp first, then into the bottom clamp. Doing this lets me see what I am doing, and holds the blade in the proper orientation for going into the bottom clamp. By lining up the top of the blade with the top of the blade clamp, it fits very well. Top feeders are probably doing this already, but not telling anyone how easy it is. If anyone is having trouble with getting the blades into the clamps, they might try this method.

  20. Ever since I got my 788, I have been a confirmed top feeder. I always load the top hold first and then feed through the cutting and line up on the bottom clamp. That said, I worked in a photographic darkroom for many years, so hitting the bottom holder without being able to see it is almost second nature.

  21. I use both top and bottom feeding with my Dewalt and my Hawk. Some practice is needed for both. Either method is fine what works for you is best. Fredfret At1 ret. Wichita KS

    Weekend Project

I would work on Christmas themed projects. Nativity project, light boxes with Christmas related cutouts and ornaments. I limited to weekends for awhile, until they find a CAD teacher. I did have some students design scrollsaw boxes as a project since I needed to find out where they are at in their skill level. The students enjoyed it because they haven't had a teacher for three weeks and worksheets were getting boring. Good luck on whatever project you pick.

Urica !Now i have plenty of nice oak,and did this cross from it 3/4 "thick and 4 ware houses got flooded in 6 " water across from me.

  32. I needed a quick easy project from the new issue of SWWC Winter 2017. The pattern is by Bruce Shea. I used 3/4" Poplar for the word art and 1/4" Yellowheart for the star. The blades used were FD UR #1 and #5. The finish was one coat of sanding sealer and two coats of spray Shellac. Comments welcome.

Ray the best way to learn is to make something for someone that you know they will like. If you make one and it's a mes throw it away and make another. Do it till you learn how, then go to something else.
