A local brewpub, literally 2 blocks from my house had a little crafts event at their place this afternoon, free of charge for vendors, so I decided to do it. Only 3 hours long. No tent, just a couple of tables, nowhere to put my giant banner, very barebones, but a nice venue, relaxing afternoon and I actually sold 12 puzzles, so I was happy. Here I am, along with Mrs. Ig as well.10 points

Finished another Schwiboggen. This one was actually easier to cut than the last. Less blade pulls. I did not stack cut this. I have a tendency to push too hard and deform the back cut. I am getting better with my soldering. I jump back and forth on solder connections to save time. Still parallel connections. Went to a AA battery connection. Routered the bottom to make it fit. Seems to be holding longer. My wife did her usual fantastic painting. A few more and Santa's bag will be full.7 points

Giraffe Puzzle Scene
frankorona and 5 others reacted to Sycamore67 for a topic
In a recent magazine, Judy Peterson had some great Giraffe Puzzles and I wanted to do something with all three of the puzzles in it. I decided to make a scene with the three Giraffes looking like a family on the plains. I created this 10 x 12 scene. The Giraffes were cut from quarter sawn Sycamore. The tree is walnut and poplar. The background is poplar on the bottom, ash above it and blue pine for the sky. The three pieces of the background were all shimmed so that the bottom is higher than the middle and the top farther back in order to try to create some depth to it. The outside frame is red oak. The finish is white shellac as I did not want to alter the colors of the wood.6 points -

Birthday Plaque
frankorona and 4 others reacted to oldhudson for a topic
My mother's 100th birthday in next week. I'm traveling via Amtrak to see her and made this plaque. It's a Steve Good pattern. The cutting is 1/4" BB pw. The frame is maple, from salvaged basketball court flooring. The backer was the reverse side of a backer from a purchased picture frame. Two layers of hand cut boarders to give it some depth. Rattle can painted and then lacquered. Thanks for looking.5 points -

The Bully
JOE_M and one other reacted to cyclistjim for a topic
The Bully is done. I spent a little over a year cutting this. Not because of the number of cuts, 1048, but because I was out of commission last year after being run down while riding my bicycle home from work. I am back to riding again it is how I get around for the last 20 years. When I was able to work at the scroll saw once again the pattern was intimidating. I eventually said I need to finish this thing! The wood is 14x11 red oak ply and the frame is made from purpleheart. The frame is finished with General Finishes Gel Satin. The pattern is Mike Williams available @ mikesscrollsawpatterns.com2 points -
I've had a couple of people ask questions about my setup at events and how I do certain things. I've also had someone suggest I write a "guide"... so... two days ago I started typing. Attached is what I have so far. My wife hasn't even proofread it yet to correct all of my horrible grammatical errors, so keep that in mind and suffer through my massacre of the english language. :-) I'd appreciate your thoughts and feedback and especially any suggestions. Or, you can tell me it's the worst thing you've ever read and figure nobody would be interested. I can handle it. It's still a work in progress. I hope that I properly explain the reason and the content in my introduction. This isn't about scrolling, it's about deciding if you want to start selling whatever product it is that you make. Thanks in advance for your feedback. Iggy Woodcraft By Scott eBook.pdf2 points

By my calculations, that's a hundred bucks an hour. Not bad. Especially considering that it appears you are living in Paradise. We really do need an "Envy" symbol. Ray2 points

Yep, I had figured I'd sell 10. I sold 22 Saturday at my 5 hour farmers market, so, combined in 8 hours, I sold 34. Very pleased. Goal is to do double that at the wine festival next weekend. It's Friday evening and all day Saturday.1 point

Woodcraft & King scroll saws.
NC Scroller reacted to Scrappile for a topic
I emailed Woodcraft Woodcraft Customer Service Saturday with that very question. This is the answer I received. If indeed the saw is just like the Excalibur, Seyco has parts for it. 5:46 AM (1 hour ago) to me Thank you for your inquiry. The warrantee is two years. For parts and repairs you can contact Woodcraft first. If we are not able to supply the replacement parts then you would need to contact King Canada. If you have any other questions or comments please call 1-800-535-4486 or e-mail at tech@woodcraft.com Thanks, Kyle Meyer1 point -

I may regret this... but...
Phantom Scroller reacted to NC Scroller for a topic
Great job. One suggestion is to make sure you bring plenty of change. Most people stop at a cash machine and have $20 bills. That is great if all your items cost $20 but if all of your items are in what I call even dollars ($5, $10, $20, $25,....) bring at least a $100 in $5's and $50 in $10's. If you have items in $1's ($3, $6, $22,....) bring at least $25 in $1's. I typically bring a $200 to start with.1 point -

Belt buckle prototype
Phantom Scroller reacted to jerry1939 for a topic
Because of Religious reasons (I'm a Devout Cheapskate), I went to WalMart.com and searched "men's leather belts". They have what's called "automatic" & "ratchet" buckles. Will look what is in the store or possibly order one. Sand the buckle rough and apply wood directly to the buckle with construction adhesive (I like Liquid Nails). Thinking of trying 2 layers of plywood with a scrolled name & a backer. Would need to sand a curve in the backer to match the buckle. I would respectively request that you not inquire how many times I've had a bright idea that failed. jerry1 point -
Marge, I use a clear coat finish and for color I use a non toxic paint.1 point
