    Finished lamps. Thoughts?

I struggled with staining these appropriately and finally got it done to "this will be ok" mode. Not intending to sell these particular ones since I plan to personally use them but wanted to take pictures to see if there is a interest in local community for these types of lamp. What do you think I can list them for?

  2. I recently placed some items in a gift shop in the city of Wilmington nearby. The owner said that anything that says North Carolina or Wilmington does well, so I showed the state of NC that I do and I had Harvey do a custom version of the swimming mermaid for me. I cut 6 of them today and I'll deliver them to the shop Tuesday.

  5. A friend wanted something that represented a turtle and a squirrel. So after some design ideas, I made a turtle box that contains a little squirrel and some tiny acorns. The turtle is made from one piece of walnut. The inlays of the shell are from the other side of the same piece (sap wood). Squirrel is cherry and the acornlets are padouk. Hope y'all like!

    Tank the T-90

My next puzzle was made from a photo of the T-90 tank. I thought of making figurals in the form of a parade of tanks and other armored vehicles from the early 20th century to the 21st century. I guess I should have added the very first tank, painted by Leonardo da Vinci. I forgot! Here you can see: * Mark I Male, United Kingdom * Schneider R-16 and Renault, France * M3A1 Stewart, USA * King tank by designer Lebedenko with huge bicycle wheels, Russia * and other tanks, armored personnel carriers, self-propelled guns. In addition, at the request of the customer, I drew several silhouettes of tanks from one computer game. I selected the figurals by a water stain. 18*11.5" 582 parts I reflected some photos of the back side of the puzzle that you could read the text. All the silhouettes I made on one scale, so you can correlate the real dimensions of these machines.

  10. I know what you are talking about, yes its a 20 plus something year old saw. Sakura was bought out by PS Wood Machine in 1990. But this saw is built tough like an other upper end well made saw. When I buy tool I usually buy vintage. repair and tweak here and there and bingo I have the equivalent of the PS Wood 21" scroller for $799.00. The national average selling price for this saw in a survey I did is $237.00. PS Wood said they selling for about a $100.00 they will buy a good one, refurb it and sell it for about $500.00. I am getting this saw for $150.00. Have seen it and it is prestene unlike the vintage 1982 Delta band saw for resawing I bought which looked kinda rough paint wise, but had good bones ran as smooth and quiet like a dream. New tires and blade a little elbo grease and I now have a resawer for my chestnut, cherry, red oak and walnut. All resawed with a $100.00 saw thats sells ready to go on ebay for $450.00 to $650.00. I just wanted to share with you my thinking on buying vintage parts available quality used equipment I really have been doing it with all my woodworking equipment and saved a fortune.

    Workpiece vibration?

Hi, I just received a cheap wen scroll saw... Just wanted to do some small work and don't really need something expensive right now. Anyways I tried it out last night and the piece if wood that I'm cutting seems to want to bounce a lot. It seems like the blade tries to pick up the workpiece with every stroke unless I hold it down really tight. I'm wondering if this is normal or if I am just doing something wrong? I've watched others using it and it doesn't seem like they are putting much downward pressure on the wood. Could it also be the blades that came with it are junk? I bought some Olson blades but it won't be here for a few more days. I also wasn't using the arm that holds the wood down but I have seen others not using it as well so figured that wouldn't be a problem. I am cutting 1/2" birch ply, thanks.

    King Scrollsaw

I went to the Denver Woodcraft store last week. They had a King scroll saw on display. Only a couple of people in the store. I tried to ask the guy at the cash register, who was just standing there doing nothing, about the saw. He didn't seem to want to talk to me. I just left. Must not have been too interested in selling one. Just as well as I have a couple of old Hawks which work flawlessly.

  30. I must admit that writing is not my strong suit but I will do my best. Ordered my new saw Oct 13 from Advanced Machinery. They shipped it Oct 16 and I received it on the 19th. I was packaged in a super strong box. Arrived in perfect shape. All I had to do is bolt the saw to the base, look over the instructions and start driving. I scroll about six hours a day and in past less than two years I have gone through two Dewalts. I decided I needed to upgrade to more of a commercial type saw. I was swayed to the Hegner because of the warranty and the availability. I was in need of one fairly fast because my warranty was about to expire on my Dewalt. There are three main downfalls the saw has. (I realized it before I bought it.) It has a small table. The top arm should raise higher. The main disadvantage to me is that you can bottom feed only. On large fret work this is a real pain it the patootie. This was just about a deal breaker for me but I decided I would deal with it. The saw definitely has some real advantages. The saw is very simply built and everything is easy to get to . It is a super solid piece of machinery. Much easier for me to cut thin wood. The blade does not seem to drift as easy. On my Dewalt it was hard for me to cut 1/4" and thinner. I feel that I am able to cut straighter and turn tighter corners. I am pleased with my decision but I don't understand why they can't make a few of these improvements to make it more user friendly. I would be happy to pay extra for the upgrades.

  31. LOL Fortunately it's very flexible... and I actually have a new business I'm trying to kickstart. Meeting with an accountant/small business mentor to bounce it off of tomorrow. I don't need financial backing or anything, just guidance on how to get setup properly. So far, the handful of friends and potential clients I've run it by have given it the thumbs-up. I keep trying to find someone to tell me why it won't work, but so far it looks pretty solid. I'll share details later. Too soon right now.

  35. If it is a reverse tooth blade, some teeth face up and will grab and pull the wood up. Don't push too hard, let the blade do the cutting.
    1 point
  36. I think you might have the blade upside down make sure that the teeth of the blade face down not up. You have to hold your piece of wood with a slight pressure on the table, also maybe your piece of wood is warped. Hope this help

  40. I have one, had it for about 5-6 years. Bought it used, hardly used, like new condition. Bottom feeder, does have some aggressiveness in the blade movement. In the slower speeds little to no vibration, higher speeds have some. Came with a stand (high for standing). Its simple, parts available thru PS Woods. I added the quick change upper blade and had to replace the belt. I'm satisfied!
