  3. I was side tracked again away from the shop, doctors appointment, store and the usual pop in 's at the ware house complex so the big name order got put on hold it's 95% done and the dead line is the 15th.I ran across some folding T.V.tables on the side of the road.In an instant i knew they were old and particule board was not around then so i bee lined to it and loaded it up.very heavy or i'm getting older but i got it and yes it's maple.beautyful projects will be made from this. Also i did a quick name for a new girl at the doctors and suggested they make good long lasting low price Christmas gifts,so we will see what happens.

    Fastest Lap Time

Finishing up my 2017 ornaments, I wasn't sure if I should stack cut these to save time.....I decided to time myself......not worth stack cutting when you can cut one in under 5 min.....IMO

    Last of the Mini

A couple of days ago, I posted a picture of a couple of mini Reindeer that were about 7/8" tall. I wondered if I could make some a bit smaller. This is the result with two smaller being 5/8" and the smallest at 7/16". This is the smallest that I can cut. The larger Reindeer were cut from Sycamore and the smaller from Maple. I found the Sycamore was not strong enough for making the small Reindeer. The small ones were cut using a FD #2/0 blade. The pictures below show the setup on my Hegner saw with the lighted magnifying glass. I built a spring jig to hold the small blank and it has sand paper on the inside of the saws to hold the blank tight. The springs allow a tight hold that does not change the pressure as you make the cuts.

    Proud Teacher

This project is not quite done, but I am too excited/proud to wait. This is the first scroll saw project one of my kids has completed here at my new school. It is a Pokemon layerscape, and the student designed it himself. The front layer has a pokeball in the grass, 2nd layer has pikachu and some pine trees, 3rd layer has a Pokemon trainer, Zapdos and a sun. It will get painted to male everything a bit easier to see We have a pretty awful pro-tech scroll saw in our shop at the moment, waiting for a new Delta hopefully. I am super proud of my student for sticking through the irritating saw and making something really neat.

My granddaughter drew a river otter for me a couple years ago. I could always make it into a puzzle. What a great story line re their lifetime partnership! Maybe two otters face to face with a heart in the middle. How romantic! bb

    Back from the Edge

Good morning! I haven't been around for a little over a year. I had been fairly new to to scrolling, but a long time stained glass guy that was going to try to start merging the two art forms when disaster struck. I had just pretty much completed building a small shop/studio and was scrolling daily when our septic system began failing rapidly. Long story, but our paid for home of 39 years was on a small lot and even with new technology the county would not give us a permit to put in a new system, leaving us up the proverbial creek without a paddle. So, as having little choice, we moved last year right before Christmas and bought a small house in the city limits of Frederick, MD. Good news: city water and sewage. Nice sized lot. Bad news: there was no garage. Real good news: I have just finished a new 12 x 24 detached shed/studio and got all of my final inspections for the building and electric last week. I have almost finished the interior, having completed walls, ceiling, lighting, French cleats throughout, and have built a couple of new benches. I picked up a used Grizzly dust collector recently and will be working on getting it connected up to my miter saw, sanders, etc. The last things I will setup are the glass area and scrollsaw station, as everything else will come to a halt as soon as I thread the first blade into the Dewalt. I still want to build a small loft and overhead wood storage, but that should be completed by the end of this week. When I am finished I will post a couple of pics of my rustic, treehouse carpentry.

    Craft fair

My last indoor craft fair of the year took place today. The day did not start well. I went to open my car door and the handle came off in my hand so I had to climb in from the passenger side. Then I got to the venue and found I had left my display stands at home. However, nonetheless the day was a great success. I sold three items to other vendors before we even opened and ended the day at more than double my previous best. I sold items that had not sold over several previous sales and one gentleman single handedly bought no less than ten items! I have also had some follow ups since I got home which will add to the total. So for those of you who do sell, keep at it, you never know what will sell on the day but in the end things usually do so chin up, enjoy your self and have fun! Now I need to get to work replenishing stock, a problem I have not had in a long time ! Rob

  17. Always something to mess you up but it wasn't broke blades or lost patterns .I finally got to get this far the second day.I was up till 3:30 fixing what my friend messed up because he didn't listen to what i was saying .So first thing the next day i serenaded him outside his door. And don't you know he said that's not the guitar i worked on before opening the door.He was amazed at what i did.I have fine tuned guitars many years so he's a believer now. He's also my banjo teacher and can't believe how i take to what he teaches,Anyway back to my projects. The doctors office ordered these (one person )of 10 May get more from them as they all have their names on their desks fancy from me.Ancestory font. All names are to be as different color with a butterfly on them except Raymond and the doctor The doctor is going to get a bobble head on his name of him,lol

    New Project???

Thanks for the heads up Kevin. I have been selling military items at craft shows for over 20 years now and have not run into any problems. As of now I do not sell on line but if I do and run into a problem I will deal with that at that time. I buy military medals and pins and turn into clocks as well as I will be making pens from them. I know a person who made and probably still does bottle stoppers from military pins and sells all over the net and I have never heard he had any problems but I have not seen him in a couple years now. I hear Etsy gets cranky on many things. I sell things unless told to stop. Much of this copyright stuff is a bunch of bull and so much of it is in a grey area. I will be aware of what you mentioned and thanks. I will continue to make them when I do get started. I got this thought from a show I did last Sat. I had a customer buy a Coast Guard clock from me and was looking for a plaque without the clock. I did not have it but thought of these. Will see. Taking the copyright thing to another level, the only time I ever encountered the copyright police at a show was about 20 years ago. Reps from Disney, Harley Davidson, and some sort of college groups stormed a show and made a few crafters take down their wares. One guy scrolled Harley plaques with motorcycles. Very nice work too. Another lady made Disney blankets and pillows from cloth that she bought from a craft store. Again very nice work. My question always is how many times does those rights need to be paid for when you take items and recycle them into other items. I know this is a long and drawn out discussion and there are no true answers and you need a Harvard law degree to decipher but it does get annoying at times. Thanks for the story. I just was over at Steve Goodes pattern site and he has many military patterns with all the branches of military emblems and sayings. I believe someone was jealous Kevin and had someone represent the military. Not sure how they can do that but I am guessing Etsy just caves to anyone's complaints. As I said I will deal with any complaints at the time and they better have a good reason. Thanks again.

    Owls???

Owls were a big thing several years ago.. the trend started coming back a couple years ago.. and yes penguins are somewhat on a rise too.. however I don't think it will get as big as the owls did.. Up and coming will be Otters... otters started coming out of the woodwork ( no pun intended LOL ) a year or so ago.. what is it about otters.. Something along the lines of.. loyalty.. yeah.. someone somewhere finally read the sign at the zoo.. Otters find a mate and they stay loyal to one another their entire life... It's a up and coming trend and the younger girls are buying up key chains and anything they can find that has anything to do with otters.. I started seeing a small trend on the stores.. of little things that have otters on them.. With that said.. I want to get a Christmas ornament pattern of a otter couple.. would be a big hit.. I intended to make one up.. just haven't had the time..

  20. This came just in time as I just finished making gifts for my family. I decided to make rather than buy my gifts this year so here they are: for my grandson Yoda, another grandson soccer pic, my daughter alphabet, dil Noel, son eagle, my wife O Holy Night. Thanks to all the designers Steve Good, TD, Scroll Saw Magazine. I modified several to add my personal taste to the designs.

    New Project???

Well Brian say what you want but to me it is plain and clear I did not make this project shown here. Now I did make a mistake in saying Pintrust instead in Pinterest. I will see if i can edit that. But that is where I found the photo. I was looking for an example because a picture is worth 1000 words as they say. If I had the answers I would not have asked the questions I did. My point here is I do not want to take credit for something I did not make and if that is a photo of someone's work that visits than they should get the credit. I will try to be more clear next time. Again apologies to whoever project this is.

    New Project???

People as many have done, not read my entire post. This is not my project. NOT a picture of my work. I found this on Pinterest so that I can show an example of what I am after. Try to decipher if that is Lawson work from his comments and if so very nice. As I said not sure if I would get in trouble showing someone elses work or not but figured it was on a free site it would be OK. But the gist of this is that these are one of the projects I am going to add next year. Sold some military clocks this past weekend so it got me to thinking. I also did some searching and will have to order a couple American flag decals that might just work for what I want. I might be able to have some sized for me too if the quality is there I will contact the vendor. Again sorry for the confusion.

    Star Wars Parchis

Hello everyone!! I´m new here, and i want to start my posts with a Parchis project that made between my grandfather and I a few months ago. I´m from Spain, and Parchis is a traditional family game in here. I love Star Wars saga, so i decided to buy a thematic Parchis that has figures of the characters instead of common tokens. Because the details of the figures and the paperboard´s board, we wanted to level up the pack, so we started to do this side table kind from pine in which the players can sit around to play. We inked the pine in sapelly, and cutted the letters with the scroll saw. Also, the top is reversible, in order to allow six or four players. I hope you all like the result as much as we enjoy it!!!

    Owls???

Jim, Only the Shadow know! This year I sold out of my owl puzzles - one version priced at $28 and the other one at $36. In 2016 owls were not "IN" so I didn't make many to sell in 2017! Seems like they only flew off the shelf later in 2017. What will be "IN" in 2018? Again, only the shadow know! One year it was pigs, then cows, then roosters. How do you get a handle on this? bb

  36. The 40-690 listed is identical to the one I use except I have the stand and light in storage building. I have no problems with the saw except the brief periods of maintenance takes me away from cutting. If it was not so far to travel, I would make it two 40-690s in the shop. The 40-690 is as Kevin states, is a grey 788. So identical that the part numbers are the same as the 788 (except for the decals). I have looked at parts list at Delta, Dewalt, ereplacements and others. So I firmly state that as long as parts are available for the Dewalt 788, parts for the Delta 40-690 will be available. Larry

    New Project???

Very nice. Nice for me to see these things. My father was a Vietnam vet. 82nd airborn. Saw way too much combat than anyone should see.it was hard to get stories out of him but as a child I remember prying some stories out of him. Now I understand more and probably shouldn't have. Sadly he shot himself in 2004. Beautiful job.

  48. Thanks Bill! I try to be helpful, I guess that's why I teach scroll saw at the local Woodcraft store. There certainly isn't much money in it but I enjoy teach new comers and some experienced sawyers learn some new tricks. It's fun to trade information with folks from around the world. This is a great place to hang and talk shop!
