Got a few of the Southern Calif. seasonal brews to enjoy except for the Nankasi which is in Eugen OR. I like there stuff a lot. Jim penquin

  2. My boy is working for a local Ace Hardware. He asked if I'd make some ornaments he could give the employees. This seems fitting. I did the same thing when my wife worked there about 8 years ago.

My aunt asked me to make this for my cousin's recent college graduation. After a made my own pattern I realized it would've been a lot easier to buy a quilter's pattern. Cut it all free hand, so if you look really closely, you'll likely find a few spots where it doesn't fit as well as I wanted it to. 8 different woods used. Maple and Walnut for the center main triangles, Cherry/Cedar and Hickory/Russian Olive for the smaller triangle points, Aspen for the outer edges, and Purple heart for the boarder.

  5. I cut the compound ornament from Alder and the miniature Reindeer from Maple. The compound cut reindeer is about 1/2" tall and held inside the ornament with a small spot of epoxy glue.

  7. My grandson (6) wanted a gift for his teacher. So he drew an apple and a reindeer. I applied his pics to a piece of cherry and cut them out. He then applied walnut oil with a paper towel. He was a very happy camper!

  13. When I'm dead, and this site is no longer in existence, feel free to give my patterns to anyone you want. I hope many years from now, people will still be cutting and enjoying my patterns. Just don't download all the free ones and put your name on them, or sell them on your site. I saw a blog where a woman cut my free bowl/basket pattern, she put the link to this site so others could come and get the free pattern. If this site was no longer here, i would hope she would post the pattern for others to use. I made it and posted it as a free pattern so everyone could cut and use it for free. If this site is gone, feel free to give it to others. Russell

  14. Ray, if you use sanding sealer, sand the woos, then paint, the paint come out smoother. But, you don't have to do that. On a few kid puzzles I painted the wood, then "sanded" with a piece of cardboard, then applied a few coats of poly.

  15. You can use the paints right out of the bottle. You can also thin them - make them more like a stain so you can see the wood. Red always takes lots of coats to cover properly. Use a paper plate as a palette to mix colours. Do a Google search to look at colour wheels, that will give you an idea on what colours to mix to create different colours. Just have fun with the paint!!

  16. I could be wrong but I think woodywoodscroller is a female. I believe it’s Rick Hutchins? Wife Rick is the one that used to run the free4allpattern site shortly after the msn groups got closed down and everyone migrated to scrollsawer site.

  19. emphasis added Lee, I have been on this forum for about a year and a half or so. I have never seen anything on here discussing Scrollers Choice Magazine being closed or really any discussion of it. I get on here every day, several times a day and pretty much read every post that is made most days in all the subforums (yes, I'm addicted. ) Now, that's not to say I don't occasionally miss something, but I usually catch them within a few days and I don't recall ever seeing anything negative about Scrollers Choice Magazine in general or any discussion about it being closed. So I am curious if you can point to "some of the posts I've seen on here" that seemed to be a concern to you. There were some discussions a while back about one of the older print magazines no longer being published but don't recall any discussions about Scrollers Choice. Please show me what I have missed. I am familiar with your product and previously ordered a copy or two in the past. (I removed the link to the site Lee had posted from the quote of Lee's post because like several others, it didn't work for me. That is the only reason it is not in the quote. ) EDITED To ADD: Ok, out of curiosity I did a search of the full forum for old threads that mentioned "Scrollers Choice" as I was curious and found only one OLD thread from April, 2016 - June, 2016. (one have been in my early days on the forum so might not have seen it or remembered it.) That thread someone asked about the magazine, some gave links to it and the Facebook page for it then, and some other discussion which can be found here: Jim and others, you can get the magazine as a download PDF or you can get a hard printed copy of the magazine - you choose which way you want to obtain it. I can't remember, but I think I got the PDF versions of the one(s) I purchased. I liked what I got as I recall. For those interested here is a link to their back issues page that shows the different issues that they have published.http://scrollerschoicemag.wixsite.com/home/buy-back-issues - You can see on that page that some are now only available as PDFs but others still have the print issue available. Looks like print issues are $12.50. PDFs are $11.50. Lee, I appreciate having another option to obtain information/articles/patterns from as we all know, there is now limited options for magazines for scrollsawers. While I have not chosen to subscribe, or purchase more, it had more to do with "time" on my hands to do anything with more patterns.

    Is the end near?

Depends on how much you want to believe. I never believe people when talking about sales and I try not to include them unless pushed. Many things do go into sales of any items and of course location is always #1 and #2. I have been doing this for over 30 years and I have seen the peeks and valleys and yes scrolling is down and never will be the same thing it once was and anyone here can twist their words any way they want but not going to be the same. One's person of doing well is not the same for everyone. Some people and I should say most people do this as well as turn pens which I have done for 10 years now do it for the hobby or joy and there are tons of threads on this. Selling online in various vendor sites such as Etsy is a crapshoot to say the least. If you can get a following then maybe you can make some money. If you do not have much competition will also help and that goes for shows as well. I will comment about the laser thing. It has always been an obstacle to us scrollers. It is a reason to try to do things that can not be copied by lasers but that is getting harder and harder. I posted a thread a few days ago about wanting to start a few new projects and one was the Military plaques. Well long and behold I found a couple sites that sell these exact plaques and are laser cut. Cutting records is another project I want to do this year and there are a ton of sites that do this by laser. Can not compete with this and that is another reason scrollers are fading away. Yes you may still do it but how many have given it up that you do not know about. Things like flat ornaments are probably the easiest things to do with lasers. It is an even bigger fight these days to continue with shows because of so many people buying on line. Joining the ranks of ebay, etsy and Amazon can and will lead to an overflow of product to choose from and thus price wars. What are the answers, well that is for each of us to battle with on our own. Whatever it is you have to be the best salesperson you can possible be. You have to have quality products and that includes finishing. And you need the gift of gab. Good luck as you continue on and do not get discouraged until you have tried various methods and avenues. It is a battle and not an easy one. Making our projects is the easiest part of the journey.

    Is the end near?

Hi Perry: To answer your question It would appear that the end is near for scrollsaw work but for me personally I think laser sucks when used for scrollwork I'll be a scroller for as long I can You just can't beat that feeling when a project is done and people appreciated your work Fab4
