Russel's pattern
MTCowpoke22 and 4 others reacted to rdatelle for a topic
This is a pattern Russell did for me for my 3 year old great granddaughters birthday. My Granddaughter, her mom wanted me to make a name cutout for her and she wanted it big. This is 24 inches long and 7 inches high and cut out of poplar which she wants to paint. I have to ship this out to N.C. and she will paint it the colors she wants. I'm glad i had a 21 inch Excalibur to cut this with. I think she will like it. P.S. I want to thank all the other pattern makers that made patterns for this project. I liked them all and I printed them all out and I'm sure she will want one of those to. Thanks again everyone.5 points -

Wheelie
frankorona and one other reacted to rjR for a topic
Made from "rescue cedar" . Designed by the T & E team again too. All measurements are approximates. Four feet long, 13" wide and 12 inches tall. Construction is sheet rock screws and gluing with exterior grade glue. Scrollsaw used more than what you would expect it to be on this kind of project. A lot of the cuts are much faster to just draw a line and cut with scrollsaw instead of any re-setting other saws. Delivered this morning and received a tip also. That always makes the day. The usual rjR burning for effect. Customer and wife were both very pleased with it! Also "rescued" enough cedar to make another on the same trip.2 points -
i think i had about 10 ish hours cutting this over a while. im thinking there was around 300 cuts. fun one and i think the blue stain pine with oak trim makes it pretty nice. seems my thoughts for a winter project have changed from a couple months ago. now my main project is dont freeze in the shop!:)2 points

Back to work tomorrow after 17 days off Got these done in the last week. The nativity scene caught my interest and Paul came up with pattern by Sullyscroller, thanks again Paul. Stack cut three, 1/8 BB ply, 11 X 13. Will post Jan's painted one when she is done painting it. The cowboy is a Charles Dearing pattern cut in 1/4 BB ply, 7 3/4 X 14. Jeff2 points -

Pegas Upgrade for Excalibur/Seyco/or any EX Clone
NC Scroller reacted to hotshot for a topic
So, got a little shock when I opened up the latest SSW&C. Evidently, Pegas just released what they call an "Overhaul" to the Excalibur (and Clones) scroll saws. I wouldn't call it an overhaul, but it is a complete replacement for the top and bottom clamp mechanism. For those that are very experience with the EX, you know there is some room for improvement here. Seyco has a milder enhancement also. The new Pegas Clamp replacement is supposed to be 40% lighter for less vibration, easier to use, and etc. Here is a peek: Here is a better peek from a Vendor here: https://www.dictum.com/en/tools/woodworking-metalworking/saws/mitre-saws-saw-guides/704769/pegas-saw-blade-holder-complete-set So, to be clear, this would work for EX, clones (Axminster, Carbatec, Pegas, King, and Excelsior) and Seyco. Anyway, I'm excited. The product doesn't show up on the Pegas web site yet, but at least this one vendor has it, and the SSWC ad says it is coming in "January 2018"1 point -
My wife surprised me with a new 16" King saw for Christmas. After using it some since Christmas I am very impressed. My previous saw was an old Craftsman 20" Professional. The difference is amazing. Very little vibration and the noise level is very low. I had done some fretwork clocks and a couple chess sets on the old saw that would have turned out much better on the King. First thing I removed were the top and bottom blade guards. Really enjoy being able to top feed. I was able to center the blade hole up after taking it off to remove the bottom blade guard.1 point

Deer from ssv library
frankorona reacted to Brianr24 for a topic
Pattern is In library from bigdogskitten11 lol. I don't like painting background board black on these type of projects. Iv been putting walnut veneer on luan and oiling it. I'm not sure it's worth the effort tho when u don't see much of it. I'm experimenting with a technique to try veneer front of basswood boards. I'm thinking of using the dato blade to take just the thickness of veneer off up to the bark area. Will be tricky and again not sure if worth effort.well sorry about the long post.1 point -
jim, your work is truly astounding. i think im going to have to give inlay a try soon.1 point

Hello Randy, there's an easy fix to the lever popping up, remove it and sand the corner of it. It originally has an angle on the back bottom side, use a GOOD fine file to do this. I've done it with my clamp and it works perfect. What causes the lever to flip, is from flipping it so much to use it. But for every time you flip the lever, you wear a miniscule amount of the lever. After so long the angle on the lever gets rounded just a tiny bit, but it's still enough to cause the lever to flip. You can make your own levers if you want, all you need is the material to make it out of. Len1 point

I want to try inlay. I am going to learn to make Shaker Boxes, and I want to incorporate using the scroll saw with them. I think inlays in the tops of the boxes might work. I also want to do more detailed, intricate scrolling like a large wall clock, some more boxes, maybe do the 23 Psalms pattern I have had for a couple years.1 point

Something New For The New Year - Scroll Saw Challenge
WayneMahler reacted to OCtoolguy for a topic
Wayne, marquetry is fun and really easy once you learn the basics. I took a class near me and it was great. Good luck. Ray1 point -
I love the original clamps, but there are some issues with wear on that upper lever. Seyco themselves offered a "modification" to help with that issue. For several years, Pegas has been selling their own branded version of the EX clone under their own name, so, I'm sure they were getting support calls on some of these issues, and decided to sell a modification to help resolve it. I sent Seyco a message to see if they are going to be selling this mod. p.s. I did hear back from Seyco and they haven't gotten their hands on one of these for evaluation yet.1 point

Interesting, I didn't realize there is anything wrong with the current clamps. other than they are made of aluminum and it looks like the Pegas ones are also. Probably will hear more about them as time goes on. Anyone in US interested that is a little over $95 plus shipping. I do not know how that compares with the original clamps.1 point

Jan had tough time painting this one . Took her a few tries until she was happy with it. She posted the finished project on FaceBook last night and it was gone within five minutes. You asked to see painted one and I said I would post when done, so here it is, still pondering on proper frame. Jeff and Jan1 point -
Need Help On this One
NC Scroller reacted to Scrappile for a topic
Been working on it and MrsN's solution has saved me a great deal of work. Covered lightly with wood filler, sanded lightly, covered the front of the backer with a coat of spray varnish, then 3 coats of flat black Rust-oleum 2X Ultra COver (I like that paint). Unless you knew where to look, I don't thing you could find the patch. Good enough for me. Thank you all for the suggestions/help.1 point -
Darn. I just bought the current upper clamp assembly from Seyco Sam0 points
