    United We Stand

I made two variations of the same design. Made of red oak, maple, walnut, and mahogany. My wife thought the first one would look nice without a backer.

    A few more critters

These are the last of the group. Thanks for the bobcat pattern ekud1946. When I was making the last cut the saw crapped out. One of the linkage bearings went out. Had to locate some locally. I purchased extras to have on hand. Saw is up and running again.

    Inkscape

I'm serious! I have trouble looking at the video then switching back to the program. Need two computers and for some reason it wont work on my tablet. So I ordered an Inkscape manual. Used from Amazon, $14 plus $3 shipping. Plan to learn if it kills me.

  11. Have been all over the country and would have to agree that Eastern Tennessee or western Carolina would be an easy place to set my roots down even though the summers in Florida don't bother me that much. Wife and I always thought we would get a place up that way for five or six months. But a long awaited grand daughter came along, and my wife said no way because of the joy that little gal gives to my wife. So we do a little RV traveling for at most three week trips, and oft times go to Tennessee. Isn't it a great country that we can enjoy so many different climates, topography's, etc. etc.

    Heating the Workshop

Of all the places I've been.. which isn't too many places.. Tennessee has always been my wife and mines favorite... We aways said if we was to move south.. we like Tennessee.. Spent spring break in Gatlinburg about 7-8 years ago.. and two years ago we stayed in a cabin in Dale Hollow.. Cummins State park and hiked to the water fall was an awesome time that the whole family really enjoyed..

    Wheelie

Made from "rescue cedar" . Designed by the T & E team again too. All measurements are approximates. Four feet long, 13" wide and 12 inches tall. Construction is sheet rock screws and gluing with exterior grade glue. Scrollsaw used more than what you would expect it to be on this kind of project. A lot of the cuts are much faster to just draw a line and cut with scrollsaw instead of any re-setting other saws. Delivered this morning and received a tip also. That always makes the day. The usual rjR burning for effect. Customer and wife were both very pleased with it! Also "rescued" enough cedar to make another on the same trip.

  15. Lots of voids in the hardwood plywood i used .Took more time filling than cutting the names. The dog bones had no voids.I used a #7 on the dog bones ,don't know why as it was too big for the job.Lazy me .the names need more paint.

  17. I have made "shaker boxes" myself but first I made "Tiner" (the plural of TIne, pronounced "tina") They are traditionally made of norwegian pine and painted . I made mine of oak and had it painted. Red Oak bends very well. Easier than pine does. I stopped making them years before I started doing inlay. Lots of work, came out fine, very hard to sell. First photo is painted and the other two are decoupage.

  18. Years ago we had a home with a large family room that was difficult to heat. We used a kerosene heater also. My shop is so small I'm always stumbling around my heater. That is why the new heater will be suspended. I have difficulty walking and often use a cane outside.

    Heating the Workshop

This is how I heat my shop in EastCentral Indiana. It was -14 out but in about 10 min I had my coat off. The space heater is on a thermostat that is hanging beside me at the saw. The big heather gets it warm then the kerosene heater keeps it warm without the noise.

  21. We love eastern Tennessee. Our good friends retired and moved there about 5 years ago. They have 17 acres with a small farm. Not that they grow anything but what they eat but they have managed to acquire quite an animal collection. Here is a link to her website/blog. They also bought 3 acres very near to them for a lake/getaway place. They have a pontoon boat and are going to put a mobile home on that property. They are truly living the life. We visited them 2 years ago in our motorhome. It was truly Heaven. I was ready to pack up and move but my wife said "no, it ain't gonna happen". So, here we stay. Ah well.......... https://www.rowdydogsfarm.com/ Ray

  22. Pattern is In library from bigdogskitten11 lol. I don't like painting background board black on these type of projects. Iv been putting walnut veneer on luan and oiling it. I'm not sure it's worth the effort tho when u don't see much of it. I'm experimenting with a technique to try veneer front of basswood boards. I'm thinking of using the dato blade to take just the thickness of veneer off up to the bark area. Will be tricky and again not sure if worth effort.well sorry about the long post.

    Batman Puzzle

My grandson is a big fan of Batman so I made a puzzle for him. He was very happy with the puzzle but took him a bit of time to put together. It was cut from 3/4" Poplar. It was sanded and then sealed with Shellac. The colors are acrylic paint and then top coated with Shellac. The tray is a back layer of 1/4" plywood and the top layer 1/2" plywood and finished with Shellac.

  26. Beautiful work Steve. Thanks for sharing. @Frank Pellow - It is a Kathy Wise pattern that was published in the Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts (SSWC) magazine in 2008 (according to Kathy's note on her site.) She doesn't list which issue but if you need help figuring it out, let me know and I can check the CD's I have. If you don't have that issue, they are still presently selling back issues of the magazine for $2.00 each if you buy 5 or more I think so that might be a good option for those looking for some patterns at a good "price". There is a thread on here that explains how to find that deal here: http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/27102-sswc-magazine-old-copies-are-on-sale/?tab=comments#comment-299526 If no back issues of magazines, or don't want to purchase any to get the pattern, Kathy does have it available for sell on her site and it is a "download" for $8.00 found here: https://store7626357.ecwid.com/#!/Cardinal-Wreath-Download/p/61488757 If you like these wreaths - Kathy has a large number of them on her site found here: https://store7626357.ecwid.com/#!/~/search/keywords=wreath&offset=0&sort=relevance I know at least this one with variety of birds (which also includes a cardinal) was also in a SSWC edition in 2004 - you can see it on the cover of the back issue here: https://foxchapelpublishing.com/scroll-saw-workshop-issue-17-holiday-2004.html (I think some other's may have also been in the magazine over the years but not positive.)

  27. i had problems with the set screw on the left side of the upper clamp loosening up and moving a bit. made it a bugger-bending the end of the blade a wee bit making it difficult to feed the blade. what i did was get a longer one at ace hardware and put a wrap of plumbers tape around the threads. a tedious job in itself( getting a wrap of that tape around suck a small screw), but stopped that set screw from moving.

  43. $3,99 from WTB (unless you buy 25 or more then $3.75 each); $3.00 from Iggy and Harvey gets more $ per pattern via Scott's setup. I always prefer to spend my $ where I can get the Artist the most money (why I try to go to the artist's website if they have one) and in this case, that's through Scott's site and still saves me a a dollar (well .99 cents to be exact.) I got my catalog at the end of the week last week. Noticed the spread and noticed that several of those "new" ones they have listed are ones that Harvey did at Scott's request. Now, that's not to say that I didn't see plenty of other things in that catalog that I would like to try one day so WTB will still see some of my money I am sure.

    choking guide

I often get questions if there are any choking pieces in a puzzle which folks are looking at for children. So I researched the government guidelines and came up with this device which I take to shows. A piece is considered chokable by the government if it can fit within the cavity of the device. bb

    Russel's pattern

This is a pattern Russell did for me for my 3 year old great granddaughters birthday. My Granddaughter, her mom wanted me to make a name cutout for her and she wanted it big. This is 24 inches long and 7 inches high and cut out of poplar which she wants to paint. I have to ship this out to N.C. and she will paint it the colors she wants. I'm glad i had a 21 inch Excalibur to cut this with. I think she will like it. P.S. I want to thank all the other pattern makers that made patterns for this project. I liked them all and I printed them all out and I'm sure she will want one of those to. Thanks again everyone.

  49. Spiral are all I use. The big box blades don't last. I also bought some Pegas blades at Woodcraft and had a lot of trouble with them breaking. I use Flying Dutchman new 3/0 spiral. I have had very good luck with thwm. I tension them very tight and have no trouble. I cut this with two blades.

  50. I want to try inlay. I am going to learn to make Shaker Boxes, and I want to incorporate using the scroll saw with them. I think inlays in the tops of the boxes might work. I also want to do more detailed, intricate scrolling like a large wall clock, some more boxes, maybe do the 23 Psalms pattern I have had for a couple years.
