    What a surprise

So, back, early in 2017 my life got really crazy, so much so that scrollsawing took a back seat. I had just moved into a new house and trying to set up some sort of shop in the basement. Here it is, January 2018 and things are slowly coming together. I finally had a chance to sit down and catch up with a few issues of Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts. After talking them out of the plastic I grabbed Spring 2017 and started looking thru. Did I ever get a surprise on page 8. There is a picture of a clock I had done in the summer of 2016. I started to read the info on the picture and "BAM". I surprised to learn that I had submitted the photo. Heck, I don't even remember sending it in. Just a great way to end a long day of putting together a Scrollsaw shop. Hope to get back "in the saddle" by the end of the month. Sure have missed making nice looking firewood.....lol. Chris

I expected the worst from the urologist, But i layed the cards on the table to him.Now he tells me it's a 1 in a million chance for what happened to me.That's not what other urologists and the cathader companys said.Anyway i met a lady at the big box store that was so bubbly i couldn't resist to make this surprise for her.I tryed different lighting.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to put this finished product on that Wayne did for me. I still don't know how he did the pattern so quick. Thanks again Wayne and to all the other pattern makers that helped me out.

  9. Over a week of snow and bitter cold (bitter cold for the beach...) I was finally able to get back to cutting. Making a few that I haven't made before and I have Harvey making 6 custom ones for me for the local beaches. I should receive those patterns tomorrow and I'll share them once they're cut and finished. These 4 will be cut tomorrow.

    Auction Piece

In September I was the feature artist of the month at a local cafe that is run by Gay/lesbian folk and the place is very popular. They are having an auction of donated art work to sponsor an lgbtq family that is coming to Canada. Here is what I am made them for the auction, it's a bunch of lgbtq symbols and I splatter painted the backboard and frame with the colors of the LGBTQ flag. Will drop it off Saturday morning

    Auction Piece

So this piece had a starting bid of $80 and the winning bid was $165 which is awesome! Of all the pieces in the auction it was the highest percentage above the opening bid. This piece is bound for Boston Mass. The auction was a great success, they also had a raffle and they raised a total of 3000$ or so. I am back as the feature artist once again in Sept 2018

    New Saw

My wife surprised me with a new 16" King saw for Christmas. After using it some since Christmas I am very impressed. My previous saw was an old Craftsman 20" Professional. The difference is amazing. Very little vibration and the noise level is very low. I had done some fretwork clocks and a couple chess sets on the old saw that would have turned out much better on the King. First thing I removed were the top and bottom blade guards. Really enjoy being able to top feed. I was able to center the blade hole up after taking it off to remove the bottom blade guard.

  15. Ok, to update, I just bought the saw in question. All I have to do now is drive a 5 hour round trip to San Diego and back. We did the deal completely by messaging and he guarantees the condition and operation to be "perfect". The saw belonged to his uncle and he used it primarily to make toys for the kids. I can't wait to get it home and play with it. Thanks again for all the help on this one. I'll keep you all updated. Ray

  16. All that tube is for a vac system. Trying to catch dust with that small tube is a not worth the effort in my opinion. To me a vac on a scrollsaw is a waste of time and effort. I would get the articulating hose and just blow the dust away from you. When done scrolling for the day take the vac and clean up each day. saves wear and tear on a shop vac and the dust is not that much. Yes wear a dust mask but that is all I have been doing for over 30 years. Listening to a shop vac all the time is nerve racking to me. This is just my opinion. Good luck.

    Inkscape

I am still in the dark ages & using Windows 7. On the very upper right of the screen, second row down is a GEAR shape. R. click it & I get a drop down menu. First option is PRINT. When you get to print, carefully check which pages you want to print. Otherwise you could run out of ink & paper !! Another option would be Google "how do I print with a Mac". Also try typing this into You Tube. Hope this helps Friend. jerry

    Inkscape

HI Ray, Can you PLEASE share how you are going to print the information that you want. I am sooo computer illiterate that it hurts, I'm using a Mac with Safari and I am not able to get this to print for me. I then went to see about purchasing the book and it seems that the book is no longer available. Thanks for your help.

    New Saw

The dulcimers were a big reason I bought the first saw. I was looking for a good way to cut the sound holes. They can be pretty elaborate. I haven't tried to sell any of them yet, still perfecting the process. I went thru the re- sawing of the wood for the tops, bottoms. Used an electric bending iron to bend the sides. Getting an acceptable finish on them has been the biggest hurdle. Building is pretty straight forward wood working.

    Heating the Workshop

Generally folks just drive too fast for the road conditions. We see it all the time here. The roads get a slick film of oil on them and then the first rain, they are like deer guts on a door knob. And the darned fools don't know enough to SLOW down. The bad part is, they usually kill some innocent person who was driving correctly. And they walk away without a scratch. No justice. Ray

    Heating the Workshop

I live in north east and I hate the cold and love hot humid weather. Its very simple why I stay here. Its my home. The one state I always say I would love to live is Tennessee. Beautiful. But no matter how beautiful I get homesick in 3 days max lol. Ur talking to a guy who left Hawaiian vacation early cuz just wanted to go home. And I love Hawaii. Just something wrong with me and I learn to accept it. I do enjoy having seasons where I live .

  39. Hi Paul, the metal tube isn't threaded right now.
    1 point
  40. I see, well again, I would try to find a way to fasten some Loc-line to the metal piece that is clamped to the saw. Where the arrow points. Could the end of that metal tube be threaded?
    1 point
  41. Here is a picture of what I'm looking at. The piece I'm wanting/needing to replace is the clear tube that runs down to the table. All the other tubing is working like it is suppose to. Sorry I wasn't in the shop this weekend doing work inside the house.

  42. I think if you go the Loc-line like in my picture you can even get that brass connection from an ACE Hardware. I was one this evening, looked in the plumbing section and they had a bunch of different sizes.

  43. Jim, I'm thinking that someone had set your saw up for using some type of dust collection and the original flex air hose was taken off. I may not know what I am talking about.
