Cut this in vinyl as I had a bit of spare time cut with #4 Spiral Olsen brand ( I think) had to drill the holes twice this time first time ever as vinyl was melting back in, time to change the drill bit I think in the drill press I will put it in my cordless drill it will be ok to go through wood for a while yet , Inspired by seeing so many young people with their phones stitched to their hands I am guessing their dates must be like that too

  2. I cut this a few weeks ago in another wood, it's Neptune's pattern, thanks again. I thought it would look extraordinary in bulletwood, which is dark and extremely hard and heavy.

  7. I have a (non-paying) commission to produce 6 limited edition framed wooden logos for the Hearst Lumberjacks Junior A Ice Hockey team. The money raised by the sale of these will go to charity. The pattern was created by mahendra (see the thread: ) then I made a few small changes to his pattern. The foreground was cut from 3mm thick Baltic Birch plywood. Portions of the foreground were painted with acrylic paints. The background is 15mm thick walnut plywood and the frame is solid walnut.

  11. One thing I can't seem to remember is to turn on my dust system when I start using a machine I currently have 2 dust systems setup . One is my HF 2 hp dust machine hooked up to my table saw and work benches. The other system is my Rigid shop vac with a dust deputy hooked up to my mobile tool carts. To solve my problem, I added these Remote Switches to both units. This way I can turn on/off either system no matter where I am in the shop or at which tool. I mention this because, the power switch for the Wen is under the table, and since I've added a zero insert (piece of plywood lol) to the top of the table, it's even more difficult to get to the power switch. I'm now hooking one of these switches up to my Scroll saw, and placing the remote on top of the arm. This makes it much easier to turn the saw on and off when I need - for fretwork, blade changes etc. Heck I even have one of these switches to turn on/off my rope lights in my Lanai!

  13. Couple of silly projects that just made me smile. Old and wise pattern by Sue Walker (Shadylady) 8 1/2 X 11 BB ply. Chicken soup by Grampa 8 1/2 X 11 BB ply. Both patterns from the library here. Was chuckling the whole time cutting the chicken and chef, same as when I cut the Grillin pattern. Jeff

  15. Deadman here also, I like having both hands on the project piece before the blade starts moving. And as mentioned earlier, when a blade breaks my natural instinct is to lift my foot which cuts off the saw. Chris

  16. one thing i love about the deadman footswitch: in the event im in a fragile area, i get a little crazy feeding too hard, and the workpiece starts to jump, lift my foot and powers off instantly.

  20. My shop is 120 sq ft. and I have a shopvac air cleaner which I turn on when I start sawing and a 2 gal shopvac under my saw to collect sawdust at my DW788 I have it plug in to my foot peddle it turns on when I start sawing and off when I stop the saw and it works fine in my small shop. IKE

  21. I have the Seyco. The problem I have is that the collection jar is a plastic that will collapse if the intake is constricted too much like when I want to vacuum dust from the table top. Let me know if I need to explain this more.

  23. My hubby had installed something similar in the shop for turning on/off the shop vacuum until I had the bright idea to add an Amazon Alexa Dot to the shop. Now we have it setup so we can use voice commands with Alexa to turn the shop vacuum off and on. Eliminates having to track down the remote control that someone else moved and left in a different spot!

  30. I move around a bit, so the deadman would be a nuisance for me. I made my own switch and can also run my shop vac while the saw is on. Generally don’t though because the noise of the vac drives me nuts.

  31. Before I bought my Festool CT26, I called Festool and asked about turning it on and off. They told me it is made for that and continuous running. I h ave my saw plugged into it so it comes on when I turn the saw on. I also like the fact that it is a HEPA vacuum and not just a HEPA filter... While expensive, it is a solid vacuum that I have been using for a number of years. However, more important than the vacuum is the design of the dust pickups. You need to pick up above and below the table. With all dust collection, collecting at the source is a key. Blowing the dust around is not good at all.

  33. It did hick up on me in the middle of a cut when I first got the saw .I blew out everything with an air hose. Still did it l unplugged the saw and eliminated the Foot switch and it worked fine Checked the foot switch it turned out to be a bad one .I think checking all of the connections is a good place to start .Because of vibration wiggle all the wires on the saw while it is running.

  44. That's a pretty cute little system that Seyco has. Kinda pricey though. I just recently built a system for my Dewalt. I have the saw at one end of my little shop and a Fein vacuum at the other end. It sits atop a stand and is plumbed into a Dust Deputy that sits below it. I use the Fein for my shop vac to clean up everything from floor to ceiling because it has a 16 foot hose. I built the pvc system for the saw and managed to plumb it in such a way that the Fein hose just plugs into it when I want to use it. As Scrappile said, the suction noise of the pvc pipe is more than the vac noise. It comes on with the saw and turns off when the saw shuts down. It works great. I found the Fein on C/L for a great price and I think that I have about $20 invested in the pvc piping and hook up. Of course, I over spent on the DD and should have just bought the barebones unit for about $50. I now have an extra bucket, wheels and hardware. I did use the hose and 90 degree adaptor that came with it but they could have been purchased separately. Anyway, all told, I have $295 invested but that could have been $50 less. I realize that the $175 for the Fein was my lucky day. It is quiet though so well worth the investment even if you have to go with a new unit. I have shown these pics before but since this is a new thread, I'll attach them again. Ray

  49. That Goo Gone or similar products will leave behind an oily residue and make your project impossible to stain. Be careful what you use it on. Once it's in the wood, you'll never get it out. Might even be tough to paint over. Ray
