Well I finally finished the project. My wife loves it. I have learned a lot that I can now better myself on other projects. I used Rapid Re-sizer to enlarge the pattern (42 pages of 8.5 x 11 ") cutting each staff piece individually and gluing together. This has been made from all 1 x 10 pine with the notes stained with dark walnut and the staff with semi-gloss spray. I left the staff to have a hand drawn effect hence the irregular lines/spacing.9 points

Well Travis, turned the guilt on me so I decided to try something for mamma. Decided I have never tried any type of jewelry so maybe a pendant would be fun. Here are two attempts (the best out of 6). I'm having trouble with air bubbles in the epoxy. I just using 15 minute epoxy and it is really two thick. I do have one more drying that I thinned with acetone, if it tries, it may be better. Anyway, my wife wouldn't wear anything like this anyway, may put it on her key chain or something.. I'm really just having fun.6 points

Took a while - but these are finally done ..... This is my second "batch" of these guys - this time around I departed from the original pattern to better fit our towns theme as the Canoe Capital of Canada. So instead of a kayak there is a canoe, instead of a kayaking double blade paddle there is a traditional single blade paddle. Neither did I include the hanger for the Christmas tree - they are made to sit flat and be displayed (hopefully) year round. They are a pain to make - but their desirability makes the effort worthwhile ..... kinda ..... sorta ...... every couple years or so ...... maybe .... Thanks to Ruth Chopp for the original design - hope she doesn't mind the changes I've made. Jay3 points

Hearst Lumberjacks Logo
jollyred and one other reacted to Frank Pellow for a topic
I have a (non-paying) commission to produce 6 limited edition framed wooden logos for the Hearst Lumberjacks Junior A Ice Hockey team. The money raised by the sale of these will go to charity. The pattern was created by mahendra (see the thread: ) then I made a few small changes to his pattern. The foreground was cut from 3mm thick Baltic Birch plywood. Portions of the foreground were painted with acrylic paints. The background is 15mm thick walnut plywood and the frame is solid walnut.2 points -

Cut this in vinyl as I had a bit of spare time cut with #4 Spiral Olsen brand ( I think) had to drill the holes twice this time first time ever as vinyl was melting back in, time to change the drill bit I think in the drill press I will put it in my cordless drill it will be ok to go through wood for a while yet , Inspired by seeing so many young people with their phones stitched to their hands I am guessing their dates must be like that too2 points

A pattern by Fish
Phantom Scroller and one other reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
This is a great pattern by Fish. It is Charlie Chaplin from the movie, "Tramp". It is the story of a bum that finds an abandon baby on the street and ends up raising him. The boy and the tramp become quite the companions. It is from the silent movies era and is a rather heart wrenching film. If you have never seen it, you can find it on line and watch it for free. If you have never watched a silent film before or if you have and thought they were dull and stupid, do yourself a favor and watch this one. I know that I did not do a very good job on the pattern but I know that I will do this one again sometime. I saw it and knew I just had to give it a try. I used a #1 spiral on it and did not like the results of the blade I used but was still glad that I gave it a go. Dick heppnerguy2 points -

SCROLLSAW703 and one other reacted to meflick for a topic
Well, only thing they are going to hear in the shop is power tools and the shop vac so I hope they have ear coverings to reduce the noise. and no, I wouldn't be giving them a key to house for package delivery either, but then, I also live in an area that they can safely leave the package on my porch even if I am not home and it's still there when I get back.2 points -
Well its not quantifiable, but a martini glass with (colored) water and video will show vibrations for each install (old school test) <grin> Thanks for the clarification on the clamping system, it looked to me like the clamping screw was tapped into the nut we can see on the opposite side.2 points

Slow hesitant start on Hegner
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
Ray try running without the foot switch and see if it still does that. If possible a complete blowing out of the switch and parts could not hurt. Look for the easy things first. Make sure all plugs are plugged in properly. If you are using anything else on that circuit while saw is running, shut it off and run the saw and observe.2 points -
Those are nice. I especially like the raccoon hanging there. They are fun to watch, even if they killed all my chickens!2 points

I revamped my website so that ordering Harvey's patterns is more automated. They're now able to be downloaded when ordered instead of me having to email them out. In doing so, I spent over a day keying in all 450 patterns and setting up categories, etc. I realized I need to add images of the patterns with each one so folks can easily see what it looks like. But if I simply stick the image of the pattern, it could easily be "stolen"... so today I tried various things including making the images low quality so they couldn't print, but that failed so then I started looking at watermarks and found a way to watermark with a "logo" so I'm using one of my business card images to cover a large portion of the pattern... Take a look... I've gotten the cats done... 12 patterns down, about 438 to go... Multi-step process... 1) Convert PDF file to JPG using online free service 2) Download JPG 3) Open JPG, rotate it 270 degrees so it's facing the right way 4) Upload JPG to online free service to add the logo watermark 5) Download watermarked JPG 6) Upload watermarked JPG to my website 7) Link it to the individual item You can view the 12 cats via the drop down... https://www.woodcraftbyscott.com/collections/all-puzzles/products/puzzle-patterns-cats1 point

Picked up a cabinet of some sort - just up the street - when I started to disassemble, it was all MDF with a very thin veneer. Disappointed!! Also picked up a nice end table that's solid wood. Too nice to take apart and cut up. It now sits next to my computer. Covered with papers, stapler, hole punch, calculator, scotch tape, and my folder of patterns. Anything in this house with a flat surface gets covered within nanoseconds.1 point

These clamps are mechanically like the old. The tensioner is smaller, there is a nut that locks the set screw so you don't have to use loctite (at least in theory). The clamp knobs are interchangeable with the old, which is nice, because my modified Hegner knob, which is prefer, fits great. If you compare the old and the Pegas, you will notice there is still a lot of aluminum in the front clamping part where you need it to be strong, but less in the back, to reduce weight. I have hesitated to install mine because I'm trying to figure out how to take good vibration measurement using the old clamps before I switch. There are a few factors that can affect vibration on the EX, like lack of tension, blade travel, and possibly my heavier Hegner knob. I'm tried out a lot of various "Vibration Meter" IOS apps, but they are all pretty lousy for this purpose.1 point

New on and off system for the Wen
NC Scroller reacted to meflick for a topic
My hubby had installed something similar in the shop for turning on/off the shop vacuum until I had the bright idea to add an Amazon Alexa Dot to the shop. Now we have it setup so we can use voice commands with Alexa to turn the shop vacuum off and on. Eliminates having to track down the remote control that someone else moved and left in a different spot!1 point -

Foot switch - deadman's switch?
Gonzo reacted to Bill WIlson for a topic
I sit to scroll and use a deadman switch. For me, an on/off switch doesn't have much advantage over just using the switch on the saw. The deadman provides absolute control. I do mostly fretwork, so I'm not running the saw for long periods of continuous operation. Fretwork is a lot of stopping and starting, so the deadman switch is ideal for me.1 point -
Paul, I think the way you incorporated the U.S. flag into this cutting, is really fantastic looking. Len1 point

kevin, are you referring to the clamps on the EX? if so, maybe im not understanding or maybe im doing it wrong, but i just push the blade all the way back in the clamp and clamp. i havent really noticed any problems doing it that way.1 point
