    Could be better

Does anyone know where you can get the actual pattern for this cross ?? I did this from making a pattern from a picture. and I really messed this up. I think it would be a beautiful cross if it can be done right. Thanks Dan

Some 1/4 " walnut, maple and steve good pattern. Changed it up a bit. Made the base square and added the yin-yang. Might have to add a light backer, to see it better.

    Mayberry Memories

I am a huge fan of The Andy Griffith Show and years ago when I first started sawing I came across this pattern and I knew I had to purchase it. I have one hanging in my house and another in my shop. It is a great piece to get people’s attention. The cutting size is 8 x 11 and the finished frame measures 11 x 14. I cut it from 5/32 oak plywood and stained it golden oak and applied poly to it. I put black felt behind it to make the details pop out. The pattern was designed by Jeff Zaffino and I purchased it through Scroller LTD about 10 years ago. I cut this about 8 years ago using #2/0 reverse tooth blades in my DeWalt saw. I can’t get the hang of spiral blades.

So I ordered some patterns from Scott this morning.. then after packing up my orders and running them to the mail.. I came back to see if I could cut this in 20 minutes like Scott does.. was a little disappointed that it took me 40 minutes instead.. Thought I could cut fast but Scott's got me beat.. Though he is the puzzle man.. I should have sanded the board first as the shelf liner kept lifting.. and doing both the wheels was more like guess work than actual cutting and staying on the line.. The front wheel most of it came up and I was trying to hold it down.. then somehow the blade grabbed the pattern and tore off a big section.. LOL Oh well was certainly fun.. Now I guess I need to get back out and cut the orders that I have instead of playing with puzzles. Edit to add.. I cut this from 3/4" red oak on the Excalibur using a number 3 Pegas MG blade..

Before she was born, I found these patterns on Scroller, LTD. Finally got them finished and hung. Turned out to be a little bigger than expected, so we had to do some rearranging to make everything work. Now You know it’s Clair’s room.

  10. Will after a cold January and Feburay month with some snow and freezing rain we got the snow dumped on us this morning 30+cm of it. But the tempure not to bad it up to 0 Celsius started cleaning up the snow about 8 a.m. at our home and then up to my mother's around 1:30p.m. Got time to do little scrolling. a friend of mine who lives in Ontario now.ordered a bunch of Newfoundland ornaments awhile ago all unfinished because she does craft things herself and does her own decorating 90 + items to start. Here' the start of it and the snow.

  11. It's a classic that everyone loves, I have tried a few others but this one turns out the best in my collection so far. Once I started day dreaming and cut all the way through the long standing branch tried to fix it by cutting another, got the fit dead on, but the grain never looked right, it's fire wood now. Have fun on yours!

    All of Me Loves...

I don't cut a lot but did this for my Sweetie. I used a #5 FD Polar. The wood is a cedar fence board. I really like the way it cut. It has no finish as it has been too cold to mess with it. I usually save that sort of thing for outside in warm weather outside. It is a Steve Good pattern.

    Tree of Life

I saw on Facebook where someone had done a tree of life on a turned piece so I had to try myself. Turned a platter with African mahogany (lip is down about 1/4). I reversed and made a recess for the backer (1/8)

    Tension Lever

Thry this when you are ready to apply thetension leverpush loosen the top set screw push down on the top and push up on the bottom lever and you may see a big difference in where you tighten the top screw. That may salve your problem Those instructions are probably clear as mud but it's best I can do. IKE

Glad you liked New Zealand Frank. It is a beautiful country but a lot of things are really expensive here. Some of that is due to our remoteness but a lot of it is lack of competition. Rob

  23. Hey, I really like New Zealand and have even thought of living there. But, a price like this for Baltic Birch Plywood is a strong deterrent. It makes me wonder about just how expensive other woodworking supplies and tools would be.

    Buffalo finished today

I just finished Iggy's buffalo pattern. It is cut from a pine board because it is what I have. I used a #5 Pegas MG blade. I was pleasantly surprised how easily the Pegas blade followed lines. I had been using FD Polar blades which worked fine. Just decided to vary things. It took about three hours cutting. I have no idea how Iggy cuts so fast. I don't have a lot of time for scrolling. This past week my clock repair business was slow and gave me some extra time. My repair business is coming to an end. I started in 1976. It's been a long run but a good one. Hopefully I'll be doing more scrolling in the future.

    Flocking

https://www.ptreeusa.com/finish_flocking.htm Just to follow up on this, I ordered my flocking from Peachtree USA they had the best price. I also found out they make several varieties I matched what I have been using right along and that was the Suede-Tex flock and adhesive. Needed a few more colors.

    Light for Hegner

I bought an Ottlite with 2 lenses. I looked at others and the optical quality was not as good. The one I have is easy to see thru with a fairly large area which is in focus. More expensive...yes but easier on my eyes. I bought my light at Joann Fabrics and used one of their 40% off coupons. I also found that for me, I did not like the light attached to the saw. The vibrations from the saw in the news cause eye strain. I mount the light on the work bench next to my saw.

    Buffalo finished today

At my age I am never in a hurry. No desire to cut fast. Mostly I was trying the Pegas blades and I really like them. The clock business has not slowed down, I have. Four clocks came in this morning. It still pays the bills. I still make pens but the scrolling is much more relaxing. I love it.

  43. In my early years of scrolling I used lots of methods to clean up the edges of my cuts. My favorites were sanding files by Olson and sanding belts by Olson. Both are things that you put into your scroll saw like a blade and sand the insides of cuts. As I spend more and more time with the scroll saw I got better and had to sand less. Now I only have some fuzzies on the back of my pieces, and rarely have to sand an inside cut. Getting good blades and slowing your cutting down (keep the saw speed in the medium-high range) and lots of practice and you will eventually be in the less sanding group.

  44. I have used the Dremel little wire wheel with great success and even a X-Acto knife. After first sanding with a Mac Mop.

  45. Not Kevin, but will add my $.02. Depends on what you are wiping it down for. If it's just to remove sanding dust, I would suggest vacuuming it first. This removes most of the dust. Taking it outside and blowing it off with compressed air works as well, but you want to avoid doing it in the shop, because you are just introducing a lot of fine dust into the air that you could do without. Wiping it off with alcohol or mineral spirits (MS) works to remove the last remnants of dust and gives you a brief glimpse at what the wood may look like with a clear finish applied. This is good to make sure you've removed all surface defects/scratches and any glue squeeze out. Alcohol will flash off quicker than the MS and doesn't smell as much. Wear gloves though, because all of these solvents contain nasty stuff you don't want to absorb into your system, through your skin. I would recommend against using water, because it may raise the grain of the freshly sanded wood, causing it to need more sanding.

  46. Dremel makes a miniature version of that, which works well for removing fuzzies from the back of very fine and delicately detailed fretwork. They don't last very long, so if you can remove the worst of them with sandpaper or even a propane torch (insert obligatory safety Public Service Announcement here), they work great for a final clean up.

  47. This is what I have been using. I first used it on the drill press but have found I like it best on my lathe. Cheeeep too.

  48. Thanks Kevin, I have it sanded to where I am happy with it now, would you recommend wiping it down with a wet cloth or alcohol then sand again, or just go right on to dipping in danish oil?
