Well, don't act surprised . . . . cut on my Dewalt. Yes, this is a literal spoon.

    Still stockpiling...

I'm still plugging away as I prepare for the selling season to really begin March 30/31... I'm seeing beach and sea critters in my sleep... and Dachshunds... Puzzles on the rack and bases painted and waiting to be painted...

  3. A customer wanted one of my Tui plaques but as a coat rack so this one is cut oversize at 24 x 12 inches and 3/4 inch thick. Reclaimed rimu as usual, this piece was the side panel of a kitchen drawer unit. There were some marks and holes where the drawer runners had been but I was able to cut some conical rimu pegs and insert them into the holes before cutting them flush. Finish is several coats of hand rubbed linseed oil, mineral spirits and varnish mixed in equal thirds. The customer will mount their own hooks along the bottom. Thanks for looking, Rob

  4. I have a very good friend that likes to decorate her house for all the different occasions, so I made a napkins holder for Easter that she can use when the family comes over for dinner. Still have to apply the finish to it and also I will use the router to round off the edge of the base.

    Jerry is a genius!

I just finished this plaque by Sue Mey and tried Jerry's method of applying the glue. Wow, what a timesaver! I'm a convert.

    Some new cuttings

ere are a few cuttings I finished up and wanted to post. The Black Panther, Ironworker, and porgs are by Mahendra from the Scroll Saw Forums site. The UCLA and USC are a couple I glued up from some on line art I found. All were fun cuts and had a lot of fun doing them. The NA shield was a request also. Thanks for looking at em. jim

Plans for a bowl clamp tool

ScrollMania has a plan for one. http://www.scrollmania.com/plans.html there is a link on the left hand side of the page for bowl press. Personally, I just use a brick but a bowl press would be a nice addition to the shop.

    My first puzzle

My first puzzle. I used a #5 blade which may be too big. The pieces are a bit loose and I may want to tighten it up a little. What size blade do some of you other puzzle makers use?

    I had to do it

Last year I had a problem with the lower blade tensioner on my EX-16. ( I'm a top feeder) I guess I had been tightening it too much and the marriage of steel bolt and aluminum was not going well. The threads were not tightening anymore. Seyco had a lower mount replacement and ordered one. While I was waiting for shipment to arrive I decided to try something different. I swapped the hex screw and tightening bolt and it actually worked pretty well. I had to add some loc-tite to the stripped side and I was back to scrolling again. The new unit arrived and I stored it knowing I would eventually need it. I kept thinking about this aluminum steel marriage and knew it would happen again. I ordered a M6 x 1.0 helicoil repair kit from the internet. I kept it in standby for future repair. Today my swapped arrangement failed and the bolt kept turning.... Time for replacement. The swap out went well and I was up and running again. It was time to try the helicoil. The kit came with the correct drill bit to bore out the old threads. I used my drill press and arbor and drilled all the way through, then I put the included tap in the drill chuck and hand turned the tap to make the new thread into the housing and used cutting oil (WD-40 would have worked). Every 1/2 turn I would rotate backwards to break the cut chips free. The kit comes with a helicoil insert tool and they threaded in very easy. The kit also has a install tang removal tool. Place the mount in the vice, inserted the tool, gave it a tap with a hammer and the tang was gone. (remove tang after installing each individual helicoil) Now I'm ready for the next eventual thread failure with a modified helicoid unit. The kit came with 20 spare threads so I'm good to go.

    Puzzle Turned Clock

I had a custom order request early this week and I thought I'd make the requested Brittany clock from a puzzle pattern.. Just finished cutting this... Still needs a mounting base and a sanding and finish applied.. Just can't decide if I like it or not.. Thinking I should have put the clock out front of the dog.. but was trying to keep it small so I put it there under the dog.. What you all think? I can always finish making a puzzle out of it and make another style clock Maybe the I needs more definition at the bottom? LOL anyway .. having fun playing around making ornamental fire wood ... This way I get to enjoy the saw time.. then later I get to enjoy the camp fire time with family laughing at my mistakes

  15. I don't have any plans or pictures. All I use are a couple pieces of ply and several quick clamps. However, Carole Rothman is the stacked ring bowl expert, IMHO. I believe she explains her bowl clamp on her blog. If you want to learn about stacked ring bowls on the scroll saw, Carole is the person to go to. http://scrollsawbowls.blogspot.com/

  17. JT thanks for make me think. I enjoyed figuring out how to do this, especially when I found a solid center golf ball! When those rubber bands started pouring out of the first one I drilled, just started the hell out of me. <smile>

    I had to do it

When I was in Maintenance we used a LOT of Heli Coils and they were our go to repair for failed threads. Wise choice you made there.

    Puzzle Turned Clock

It is nice as is. The next dog/clock puzzle could have the dog with the BALL(clock) in front of the dog, just an idea.

  23. Here is the little jig that I use to clamp the rings. The 10lb barbell weight, in the back, is to set the bottom disk. You can get the barbell weight, at Walmart, for around $15 bucks.

    Thank you Bob

I finally finished these, both patterns were done by Bobscroll. Thanks Bob. I have been working on things, and I said I'd never sell stuff in a store. Well, I am but only to help my sister pay some medical copays- There is a place called ArtZ Studio in the White Oaks Mall in Springfield Illinois. They are on Facebook too. Thanks Mike and Karen for helping us out- There are some incredible artist's selling things in there. I have taken a lot of stuff I've done over the years, 40 plus crosses, portraits ,etc. Anyway, Bob your patterns have really helped and I have several more to do. Thanks

  32. Yes. I do not have a band saw, which is what JT said he used, so I had to work around that limitation, centering the forestner bit is the key thing, I got lucky and thought that through from the start.
