Take time to Pray

Just finished these two pieces today. Just waiting for the clock inserts to come in before I drill the center hole. Kevin had made one of these and I liked it so I decided to make a couple. I was able to stack cut these out of 1/2 inch Oak with a 1/8 backer painted red and green. Used a #3 UR blade on this. I'll probably keep one and give one as a gift.10 points -

Some new cuttings
new2woodwrk and 7 others reacted to penquin for a topic
ere are a few cuttings I finished up and wanted to post. The Black Panther, Ironworker, and porgs are by Mahendra from the Scroll Saw Forums site. The UCLA and USC are a couple I glued up from some on line art I found. All were fun cuts and had a lot of fun doing them. The NA shield was a request also. Thanks for looking at em. jim8 points -

this was a custom order and the client sent me the pattern so i am sorry i do not know to whom i should give credit. i love luan. if you take your time and use a reverse blade all 8 layers are usable and fits glued in a dollar tree frame. the frame here was about 30 years old i bought in an estate sale. delivered 2 of these in matching frames and the other 6 will go in $1 frames. i had to hot glue the figure to the bottom of the frame or it would move about.4 points -
I've been looking for the perfect magnifiers since 1963. I was a model builder, a clock repairman and other things. I have four Optivisors, three or four similar magnifiers as well as an assortment of clip on magnifiers and other devises. I just purchased on Amazon the finest magnifiers ever for under twenty bucks. My distance vision is fine. I wear 1.25X for reading and uses 3X for close ups. This unit allows me to wear my reading glasses as well as the magnifier. It is very nicely made. The LED lights require two triple A batteries. I won't be using them as it will add too much weight. I am finding them ideal.4 points

Excalibur Finally Using It.

Okay now that it was a little warmer out today and I have the EX -21 set up.. tuned the way Hotshot had mentioned to me a long while ago.. I wasn't rushed to get an order out or anything I thought I'd set at the Excalibur for the day... I'm very impressed with the ease of cutting.. fine detail work.. I was cutting out clocks trying to replenish some of my sold out inventory.. Below is a couple pictures of what I was cutting ( NOT THE ACTUAL ONE's ) today.. The ease of cutting out the detail in the grass areas that with my DW788 I always backed in and out to get nice crisp points on the grass.. The Hawk was better than the 788 but not nothing like the ease of cutting this out n the Excalibur.. Another thing.. while I have the blade tuned to go pretty much straight up and down the saw still bites into the wood very good.. unlike the Hawk was for me.. I always felt like I'm forcing the wood through the Hawk.. Not so at all with the Excalibur.. While I don't think it bites away the wood quite as fast as the 788.. with better control the speed of cutting is actually faster I believe..4 points -

Just got back a short time ago from the craft show, wasn't a disaster did better then I thought, $200, not many others sold anything, I sold mostly eagles things, if it wasn't for that , I wouldn't have done well. Quite a few vendors didn't make it, had an empty spots on either side of me. The storm that we had knocked out power in the surrounding areas, We were lucky, although I had trees down in my back yard, and they were on the township property, saves me money. Now I can rest for a while. edward2 points

I have a small shop (120 sq ft) and don't have room for many tools Ihave a 10 in drill press ,4" belt sander and a 1" belt sander with the backing platae removed the i" belt sander works well on curved areas, I cvant see putaing out more moneys for other permant sanders . the only other sander I use is a mouse I kave 3 each with a different grade sand paper. there isn't any thing that would take up much space on my work bench that would b much hellp ffor me. 1" Belt Sander VS Oscillating Spindle Sander

I love my Rigid as warrantied for life. When I moved the movers messed it up and Rigid still stood behind it and sent me a new one even thought it was the nut was jammed on. Since you are a fellow Canuck, you should watch the Swap meet on https://www.canadianwoodworking.com/ On the forum. there was a 1 inch belt sander not long ago that went real cheap. They also run a "rucker" request to get things delivered too. You never know what comes up.2 points -

It is a great machine. Just not a one size fits all. Love mine and use the heck out of it but still lacks a few features I would love to see.2 points -

I had a custom order request early this week and I thought I'd make the requested Brittany clock from a puzzle pattern.. Just finished cutting this... Still needs a mounting base and a sanding and finish applied.. Just can't decide if I like it or not.. Thinking I should have put the clock out front of the dog.. but was trying to keep it small so I put it there under the dog.. What you all think? I can always finish making a puzzle out of it and make another style clock Maybe the I needs more definition at the bottom? LOL anyway .. having fun playing around making ornamental fire wood ... This way I get to enjoy the saw time.. then later I get to enjoy the camp fire time with family laughing at my mistakes1 point

Hi Jerry, I looked at Sloans and found your Optivisor. I have four of them around my two shops and vasrious other devised. Never liked the Optivisor as it never stayes in place. It would be OK if I were bald. It keeps sliding up on the back of my head. Ihave magnifiers thatwould clip onto eye glasses but no longer do with new style frames. I've always been on the lookout for something better. I do appreciate your sending me to Sloans. Wow, whata lot of wonderful stuff. Thanks. Les1 point

I used a fluorescent magnifying light for years, always bumping my head when it was rasied and seemed like I was always fighting it to get it n "the sweet spot" for cutting. Got a pair of these visor magnifyers and what a difference, just flip up after cutting and flip down to cut, band they move with me, I don't see myself ever going back to the fluorescent magnifying light Chris1 point

Yeah, Been there done that one already. . Lucky I knew what was happening before I ruined the cut..1 point

Thanks for the review Kevin. Those sharp point cuts have been known to drive me nuts every once in awhile, especially in some of my intarsia cutting. Some days one has it, other days it's just not there.1 point -
Headband Magnifiers

Hey, for the price of $12.99, just put it in the order from Amazon. I really get tired flipping that lighted magnifier arm back and forth to re hole the saw blade being a bottom feeder. We will see!1 point -

What's not to love about the EX21 had mine for a few years still works as new. I had one issue it stopped dead once check everything and when I pulled the plug out I realised it wasn't plugged into the back of the saw somehow I'd pulled it out or it wasn't in properly in the first place. I think the latter Roly1 point -
Kevin,, now you're cutting with class, the EX's are very nice saws to use. Len1 point

this one had wide lines so it was a #3 spiral reverse. took 2 blades.1 point -
You need to scroll down to find this one. I either use that or something very similar. Had it for years & like it. Looks like it would be lighter & more comfortable than the Magnipro. http://www.sloanswoodshop.com/misc_.htm1 point

I enjoy cutting every one of 'em. I got those 21 done in 7 hours and that was taking breaks and going at a pace I was comfortable with. It wasn't a strain, but I definitely wouldn't want to do it every day.1 point

Great cuts Jim I remember the requests for the patterns and @multitom coming up with them they look great cut you did a good job on all of them. Thanks for showing us1 point
-
MODERATION!! Get the glue about as thin as you can get it, otherwise it will squeeze out. I drop the cut piece on the wax paper, pick it up, rotate somewhat & drop it a second time. That way you catch any spot where you troweled the glue too thin.1 point
