  2. Was telling a friend about this Shadylady pattern and he ordered one on the spot, sight unseen. The second one I think I found on Pinterest and it just tickled my fancy. Jeff

  3. Sam Custodio is one pattern maker who makes really nice patterns that are a little on the challenging lines but not too crazy, if you know what I mean. When Sam posted this pattern, it instantly opened a portal in my memory and I knew I would have to cut this pattern just for myself. This particular pattern was more challenging to me then I thought it would be. I am nearly out of blades that I usually use but just did not have the right frame of mind to wait for my blade order to arrive, so I went ahead and cut it anyway. As a result, I found it more of a struggle to cut then I thought it was going to be. I was really unsure about the "scenicruiser" words on the side of the bus because it looked pretty delicate for the blades I was using. Sam had the top of the letters unattached but because of the blades I was using, I extended the tops of the letters so they too were touching solid wood. I cut this in 1/4 inch BB Ply and the same for the backer board. I still need to through some finish on it but that will not change things enough to repost it. I hope this one shakes a few cob webs in the memories of others as it did in mine. Dick heppnerguy

  4. Someone at work asked me about the "Einstein"'s i made for the classrooms and asked if i could make one of, "Sam and Dean"? i replied "Who?" he told me where they were from so i said sure. turns out they were from my daughters favorite show. he then sent me a pattern made for, carving a pumpkin! into Corel i went. 20 minutes of adjustments and printed. i wasn't sure it looked right until i gave one luan to each of my girls. i must have done well!!! it is 10" x 14" and was stacked 4- 1/16" luan sandwiched between 2- 1/8" birch ply with a #3 FD spiral rev and lots of patents. i think the one on the left looks like Michael Myers....

  7. Dan, I'm thinking that if they last that long, which you indicate will take you to 76 - then you need to figure that they will NOT be the last lights you buy for your shop. My FIL, who is presently 90, and still hiking in the Smokies would tell you that 76 is Young so you might want to plan a second set for another 23 years that would take you to 99.

  11. I upgraded my T8 fluorescent shop lights with new energy-efficient long lasting LED fixtures ...... these are supposed to last 50,000 hours, if I average six hours a day seven days a week in the shop, these will last me right at almost 23 years ...... I will be 76 years old that time ......so they should be the last lights I buy.....

  12. Okay.. Not sure if I had mentioned about me breaking a blade on my old Hawk 220 and the upper arm comes up higher on it than my other Hawk so long story short.. it hit the florescent bulb and busted it.. There was another thread a while back about mag lights and it was mentioned about LED replacements for those circle florescent bulbs.. anyway I did a little research and found that many of them need certain starter ballast either electronic or Magnetic.. I couldn't find any info as to what I have in my light fixture.. ran across this bulb on eBay.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/8-inch-Circline-T9-daylight-LED-relamps-fluorescent-FC8T9-bulb-without-rewiring/222261066257?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 It came in the mail today.. and I have to say it's awesome bright... instant on.. etc etc.. Was a little more money than I was looking to spend since the florescent bulb is only about $6 - 8 and there are other LED's that are cheaper.. if you can figure out what ballast you have.. etc.. The color temp was a lower number than my old light.. but it's still much brighter.. I know this because I have a few more of the same mag lights on my other saws.. Anyway.. just thought I'd share my experience with this bulb.. might have to consider replacing the other bulbs.. if this bulb proves to last a while.. Those old florescent's take a while to get bright out in the cold..

    Chevy Cars

These are some of my new car designs. I decided to create the 56 and 57 after the response I received from the 55. I created all the patterns using Gimp. Hope y’all like em all! I’m working on a 69 YENKO Nova, 55 Chevy Nomad, 69 Dodge Charger, and a 69 Dodge Daytona. I will post pics of them once finished.

  17. Hello friends! I have another update on our "out of service" compliance. My Bride says to let you all know your thoughts & prayers are sincerely appreciated. She is doin' well! Happy to be back to work & able see all her friends that come & go at the grocery store. The joy of livin' in a small town. Last friday, we spoke with my Cardiologist on the phone, finally. He told us the clot in my leg is all but gone. He is no longer worried about it. That was good news! And he also told me I could go back to the shop a few days a week! That was even better news, until my nurses that come in got wind of it. Between the three of them, & my Bride, they didn't think my legs were strong enough to stand going to the shop yet. So, I'm still stuck in my chair, doin' their exercises for now. That's probably best, as long as I've been down, & as much pain as I'm experiencing in my legs. My family dr is still adjusting my blood thinners. They tell me it takes awhile to get the numbers where they are supposed to be. As much blood thinner as I've had thru me, you'd think my blood would be nearly water, but it ain't. So, we'll keep messin' with that, I guess Again, thank you for keeping us in your prayers. They are doing their job! We sincerely appreciate them all! Enjoy the day, & God Bless. Brad & Mary Ann.

  20. When I built my shop in 2012.. I bought the T8 fixtures.. but then put in LED bulbs these here.. https://www.menards.com/main/electrical/light-bulbs/led-light-bulbs/sylvania-reg-48-17w-equivalent-linear-daylight-t8-led-bulb-replacement/75062-75042/p-1456889156784-c-7482.htm?tid=7405467454301585160&ipos=2 In 2015 my friend bought from LED light fixtures.. sealed unit I think as he couldn't change the bulb... his stopped working already and he works a full time with overtime job so those lights didn't get much hours before they stopped working.. they had a 5 year warranty.. he took them back and Menards replaced them no questions.. I personally like the option of replaceable bulbs especially when you have different color temp options etc.. I'll never buy a sealed unit unless there is not any other option, LOL

    Shop Lighting Upgrade

Yeah, I'll be 75 next month so I might get my money's worth out some if I buy them now. But, they will be pricey as I have 7 double light fixtures in my little shop. Oh well, I guess I can't take it with me. Ray

  23. My 1" belt sander is on its last legs. It doesn't owe me any money. It has been one of my "go to" sanders for a lot of my work for many years. But .... Have always wanted an oscillating spindle sander. Have never actually used one - but think it can do the same work and more. So. Am thinking of replacing the 1" belt sander with the oscillating spindle sander - I do not have room in my shop for both. Is this a reasonable swap? The one thing (I think) the spindle sander will NOT do is sharpen metal blades - lawn mower blades, kitchen knives, carving knives, chisels - all of which I do and do well with the 1" belt machine. Far as I know this is the only real downside. What I like about the spindle sander is that it will sand tight curves where the belt leaves me looking for other equipment (dremel, drill press) - despite what I said about metal sharpening I do a lot more wood sanding than metal. Advice??? Thanks, Jay

  24. Pattern makers of the Village I salute you. Portrait cutters of the village I stand in awe of your skill. Below is what Mahendra produced for me and then is my first cutting. I looked closely at the detailing of the pattern and the size of things like the eyes so i decided to use some unknown type of ply to do a practice cut. (the fact that it is minus 3 and snowing and having to set up my table saw outside on the patio to cut down 4ft by 4 ft BB into useable sizes has nothing to do with not having BB to play with) I have done faces before but not real people so it did not matter if there was some small element of cross eyes or mouth too far on one side or the other. Portraits have to be spot on. especially when you like the person. I was reasonably happy with my cutting here especially around the eyes, I got caught out 2 or 3 times where delicate cuts were only done after surrounding supporting wood was cut away. I knew that I would get lots of grain lifting when I remover the tape, but I also noticed how changing the angle of viewing gives you different result. This wood is 5mm and my BB will be 6mm. I've posted two photos of the same wood showing different angle but I dont know if the site will let me upload them due to size. If it does accept the 2 of them, see how some faces show better at one angle than another. [This is probably true of all cuttings but I've never noticed till now.]

  26. I agree with all the above. I know many 80 plus woodworkers. Ray's post is important. My shop has OSB on the walls and ceiling. Painting it white makes a major difference. I applied Kilz and then 2 coats of flat white. I used cheapo builder's paint. Think it was like $35 for a 5 gallon bucket.

Is there a particular font used when making a puzzle? It appears, the puzzles all seem to use the same or similar font. Here is an example of what I'm asking: Thanks in advance

I just realized that I hadn't posted this little fellow. Its a Steve Good pattern. I cut if for my grandson as part of is Birthday present. I think the head is Jeletong but I have no idea what the base is I just know it was very very hard and heavy. Terry turned the pieces to wrap the cord around. Marg

    King saws

Having owned many saws from old Deltas to DeWalts to the Hawks and now the EX-21 I picked up late last year.. If I could only have the one saw.. I think I'd choose the EX-21.. I like each saw I have for different reasons and cutting styles.. but the one and only comfortably using saw for every style of cutting i do.. for me.. the Ex21 fits that bill best overall.. Yes there are a couple of things I don't like about the EX too.. But like I said overall it's the simplest and most user friendly saw of all those I have.. for the type of cutting i use the saws for.. If I was stuck doing portrait work all the time in thin stock.. then the Hawk is a nice fit.. If I was cutting thick material and wanting to cut fast.. The Dewalt is my choice. but the Ex will do both of those with ease.. I think you'll be very happy with the EX-21

    still out of service!

Brad, I am glad to hear that your lovely bride is doing better and they are allowing her to get. Ack to work some. That alone will be a blessing to her I am sure. I am sure she will still worry about you while she is gone however. Glad to hear you are following Dr’s orders and doing your best as a clot in your leg is nothing to fool with for sure. My continued prayers for both of you and I pray that you will be doing better soon and can get to your saw.

  49. hello friends. I have some news to pass on to you. Mary Ann recently had some tests done on her kidneys. Those come back ok. Last tuesday, she had a nuclear test & CT scan done on her gallbladder. She seen the specialist shortly there after, and he told her he couldn't see any problems. He thought her issues were caused from nerves. So, our family dr has released her from his care for her to go back to work a couple days a week at the grocery store!:) She's happy about that! She hasn't left my side since I had my heart attacks. As far as Me, all we know is there is a clot in my right leg, below the knee. How big, or where its at is still a mystery. I've still got home health nurses comin' in, as I'm still stuck in my chair. They are allowin' me to get up & walk some, go to the bathroom by myself, to the table, things like that, but for the most part, I'm still readin' what all of you are up to, followin' drs orders, & prayin' for better health. Thank you again for all your prayers & thoughts. We sincerely appreciate everyone of you! keep them comin'! better days are gettin' closer, I hope. God Bless!
