I thought I would give your idea a shot. It just so happens that I too have a piece that needs to be removed and re-glued. So I soaked in vinegar, but quickly became way too expensive. I was not sure if it needed or if it could be diluted so I assumed it needed to be full strength. I only filled the tub 1/2 full and laid very flat in it, rolling over occasionally so that all my sides were covered well. I was so glad I live in Arizona right now because I believe that I would have gotten rather cold in the vinegar for 1/2 hour. I do not think it was long enough and I do not want to soak in it again, as my wife will not allow me in the same room smelling like vinegar. OH, and the wood pieces are still stuck together.. I think your idea stinks...no pun intended. Dick heppnerguy4 points -

I have unglued one too many items - thanks to the wood working class I took. Here is what I've discovered: Heat is good - Either with a heat gun or a hair dryer if you don't have a heat gun Heat the area where the glue is and if you get it pliable enough you will be able to just remove the item and then sand down the glued area. If you are unable to get the glue pliable enough from the heat to just separate the pieces, take an exacto or other blade type tool and slice the glued area. You should "feel" the blade slide in and the glue "give" a little - work the blade into the glue by slicing along the glued seam. You may need to reheat the area One thing about heat guns is to be careful not to burn the wood or yourself as the ends of the gun and where the heat emanates from get very hot so wear gloves if you have them - not nitrite gloves but real gloves like work gloves or leather etc. Hope that helps3 points -

The answer depends on the type of glue used in the assembly. It is was a typical yellow woodworking glue, such as Titebond, then you could try applying some heat with a blow dryer or a heat gun. This may weaken the bond sufficiently to allow it to release. Some glues will soften if the joint can be moistened. This probably applies more to white glue, as it doesn't have the water resistance of some yellow glues.3 points -
Some advise and observations
Lucky2 and 2 others reacted to Jim McDonald for a topic
I will add a few more: Always make sure of the contents of a spray can before pressing the button. Black lacquer and clear lacquer often come from the same manufacturer. A mistake on the scrap side of the line is just practice. (A mistake near the line is artistic license) Scroll saws are horrible devices for trimming your fingernails. Don't sand upwind from projects that are on the drying rack. Don't leave your drink downwind from your sanding station. Don't ask how I know these important lessons.3 points -

This is just another silhouette that I cut for Easter to shine on our home. A cross with Jesus' robe draped over it. Nothing spectacular as far as the project but representing a truly spectacular event. Cut out of some material like corian at about 10" tall with a high intensity light behind it. God Bless! I just made a post and saw that I am no longer a supporting member of this wonderful world wide family. If this is true for me, perhaps it is for you also. Go check and see if you are still a supporting member. If not, you probably will want to be, as I always try to support the things that help so many others, as this site does.. go check under your name when you post. Help keep this site on line Dick heppnerguy2 points -
I'm starting to populate the trophies section. So you'll start seeing some notifications of achievements that you have earned a long time ago. Things like "Ice Breaker"...earned when you make your first post. Bear with me as I get through this backlog.2 points

The power tools that are they most dangerous, in my opinion, are my table saw, jointer, and planer. Those are in the garage and I only use them when I can take them outdoors. If power goes out and comes back on too quick the table saw would be very scary. Other tools in the basement, not so scary. So, during a thunderstorm I'll still scroll. Unless it's really bad then I sit at the window and enjoy the excitement outdoors.2 points -

A long time ago in a garage shop with no windows I had a power fail when cutting a piece on the table saw. Scared the ^%%& out of me thinking about that spinning blade. Was smart enough or scared enough to freeze until the blade stopped. I now have a rechargeable light that goes on automatically when the power is disconnected and a shop with windows.2 points -

Thanks for sharing Iggy. I saw this too this morning and was intending to share it but figured it would take a bit to get the video available after they aired it and hadn't checked yet to see if it was up (got busy with some other things actually and had forgotten about it. ) glad you followed through to share it. I too thought it was interesting.2 points -

I am/was in the process of making a piggy bank for my great nephew and glued up the three pieces. Didn't realize that one of the sides slid out of place until a day later when I went to sand it. It is to far out of place to sand down effectively. How do I unglue the one side or did I just make some designer firewood????1 point -
Just guessing but... I think a lot of them are coming up for sale because... One.. they are mostly the old ones coming up.. and.. most of the old ones are owned or was owned by older folks.. most all of them I see in my area say in the add.. Dads old saw or grandpa's old saw.. typically saying the they are no longer able to use it or they have passed and they are cleaning out his old shop.. How both my Hawks came up for sale... Hawk sold a lot of those back in the day.. On a side Note.. I also see tons of Hegners up for sale too... just the ones I see are the old ones that are either single speed and or doesn't have the quick release at the front of the saw..1 point

Dick - probably the "time" you had paid to support has passed. That happened last year, I had gotten an email about it before it "expired" I think but I get so many emails I had passed it by to do "later" problem is, I then forgot to do later and then one time happened to notice that my support badge was no longer there on my profile pic area. It's easy to remedy - just to the the "support SSV" tab at the top (when on a computer) - see the screen shot I have included - click there and then select and click on the "Become an SSV Patron" and choose the category of your choice for your support. (See 2nd screen shot.) Even if someone doesn't want to be a listed "supporter" - you can also make a one time donation or an additional donation above the SSV Patron by clicking on the "Donate to SSV" option.1 point -

new2woodwrk reacted to tomsteve for a topic
welp, they started as cut outs. i had little paw patterns in their place, holes drilled, and ready to cut. very first one i realized my saw doesnt have the capacity to swing the piece a full 360- i had to work at them as far as i could one way, then swing around and cut from the other. and didnt have enough control to make the radii smooth enough. so slapped a pattern of the prints on a stack of 1/8" and cut them out, then glued them on.1 point -

My house and shop are protected. But if the storms are too bad I just wait them out then go back to work. Not worth taking chances since I don't have a lot windows in my shop and the ones there are glass block. They have vents and all for circulation just really don't show light like a normal window.1 point -
