Thank You A-nder YA+Imaz

Last November I asked for a pattern and got 3 or 4, this one was chosen but then my customer had some family problems and asked me to put off cutting it until she was able to pay for it, well she rang recently and asked for 2 cuttings and gave me more money than I asked for because she said she hated to put me off so long. Well I finally cut it. It was cut from 2.5 mm bamboo and it measures 8.3" x 11.7" (Aust. letter size) The pattern was by @Önder Yılmaz , thank you Brendon, she loved your pattern. By the way I had to cut it twice I broke the first one so had to bin it. Marg6 points -

When I started coin cutting, there seemed to be a general consensus amongst the coin cutters using the Jewelers saw that the Jewelers saw was the only tool with enough control and accuracy to do highly detailed cutting. A few of the advanced cutters would cut the "Tree of Life" designs as a demonstration of what they and their tool could do. Being a scroll saw fanatic, I didn't buy the assertion that the scroll saw was inferior for detailed cutting. I think this is a good demonstration of the scroll saw capabilities in this realm. I participate in a few metal working/Jewelry groups, predominately dominated by folks using the Jewelers saw. It's interesting to see the reaction when some of the members realize, that their might be "another way". I ran across the basic design on google, and placed it inside a heart border so that I could make a pendant out of it. This was cut on the Eisenhower. -----Randy5 points -
My family looks forward to camping trips to see what kind of interesting designer firewood I bring. Watching your mistakes go up is smoke is kind of therapeutic.5 points

Jes what you are discribing is commonly refered to as designer firewood. Now what designer firewood is will vary from person to person. I'm willing to bet most scrollers have made some. It is just part of the learning process. I have made some dandies. Believe me this too will pass.5 points -

Hi all! I actually joined back in 2014, but life got in the way of my hobbies (read as "there was stuff I HAD to do before I could do the stuff I WANTED to do")...I can't believe 4 years have passed! Anyway, things have settled down and I can finally get back to the stuff I WANT to do, so here I am! Blew the dust out of my shop, de-junked, got everything all neat and organized (I predict it'll stay that way for about a week!), and am picking up where I left off...basically at scroll saw Ground Zero. Made a few test patterns, stuck them down on some 1/4 ply, and away I go. Look forward to talking to you all! Sherry3 points -

I kept the first thing I scrolled (a simple 3x4 piece of 1/4" ply with a star cut out)...you wouldn't BELIEVE how crooked my "straight" cuts were! NOT that they're orders of magnitude better NOW, mind you, but they "are" getting better.3 points

I can rightfully say I have never made a mistake when scrolling. I have however, made many unplanned modifications to the pattern I am cutting and from those unplanned modifications I have made a considerable donation to the world wide designer firewood collection. I fix or reuse what I can - we are in a burn ban here. Larry3 points

The Master is only the master because he has failed more times than the novice has tried.. I have that in my signature to remind myself that I need to keep working at it.. Doubt I will ever reach the Master status, LOL... but i keep trying.. You only fail when you quit trying..3 points

Modified geometry Blades? Used for?
SCROLLSAW703 and 2 others reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
There are many variables when talking blades.. not only variables with blades but the saws set up too.. But generally speaking.. I use them on most everything i cut anymore.. I still use a lot of other styles of blades and saw set ups.. which is one reason I have several saws.. I mostly use the #3 and 5 for the things I make.. but on occasion I wish I had a few #1 and 7.. That said though... I have plenty of other style blades for those needs.. but when they run out I'll probably order some of the Pegas MG.. My next Pegas order is going to have some samples of their spirals.. Which reminds me.. I need to place an order soon..3 points -

I use them pretty much everywhere. I agree with Dan about the drift, which is very important when doing a compound cut.3 points -
Use them for anything you want. You'll get a good feel for how well they work for you and your application. What I like most about them is how little they want to drift.3 points

Modified geometry Blades? Used for?
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to new2woodwrk for a topic
I just received my Pegas Modified Geometry Sample pack of blades - 2/0, 1, 3, 5, 7 (missing coming later), 9, 12. Under what circumstances exactly would one use these blades over the Reverse Skip blades I've been using for everything. I'm trying to step outside of my comfort zone hoping to expand my abilities a bit and figured different blades would be a good way to start. Thanks in advance2 points -

I agree with the reasons most people are giving for using Pegas modified geometry blades but I have another it’s the lack of sound when using them I really like the silence of the cut. Bill2 points

I have a variety of scrolled and carved pieces that have never seen the light of day - but for me they represent a tangible (and humorous) record of my efforts to become a better woodworker - each one is a lesson learned - that collection was getting a little too large last year and I had to selectively cull it to make more room in the Shed - now I have a smaller collection that might be called: "The Best of the Worst" - the culled pieces did become firewood. All part of the game!...It doesn't matter what you engage in, there will always be rejects or ruins....In my case, if I screw up a piece, even if I have hours put into it, I just think to myself that it was a good practice and I probably learned something or improved a skill in the process! In the art world I bet there are 10 duds for every good endeavor!2 points
-
I haven't had to toss many but I lost a project when it fell and broke after about 30 hours and 800 plus cuts. There were pieces everywhere. For your intarsia piece just re cut the piece not the project. If 2 Pieces Don't Fit In SEGMENTATION The blade is not at 90 degrees to the table or you are pushing to one side. Not sure what your car problem was but don't expect perfect cuts and relax. Slow down if you need to have fun. Fredfret2 points

That is how we learn! Don't let it get you down. The only thing I have thrown away was a bowl that exploded on the lathe. The scrolled things that had issues were repaired, super glue is the magic fixer2 points

Scrollsaw and Carburator Gasket
SCROLLSAW703 and one other reacted to Jim McDonald for a topic
This is the PERFECT aha moment! The last gasket I made with hammer and Fel-Pro was on a 750gpm fire truck pump--probably 1982 or 83. Used "Indian Head" gasket shellac on both sides of the gasket. When that truck was scrapped, I guarantee you they didn't split those brass pump halves to get the impellers out.2 points -

Yep, that’s what we would call them here in the eastern part of the state of Tennessee here in the USA a Wine Box. Same as you guys. These look like very nice ones. How is the design there? Is it in laid into the wood, vinyl, paint? thanks for showing your work.2 points -

My Father was the same way, Kevin, but it weren't with scroll saw blades. It was grease, oil, truck tires, things like that bcause my Father was NOT a carpenter, God rest his soul. And I have a lot of his same traits, too. But one thing about Dad, as hard headed as he was, if he found somethin' he liked, he stuck with it. I'm that way, too. I know what works for me to my perfectionist specs, & I've stuck with it. I have my doubts of Olson or Flying Dutchman goin' out of business before I'm not able to scroll any more. It maybe That I have to find a different retailer, I hope not, but one never knows these days. I'm in perty good hands, & get dependable service from them.2 points -

I made the switch from Olson Mach Speed to Pegas Modified Geometry a few weeks ago and I won't go back. The Pegas are amazing. Funny folks mention "drift". I notice a slight drift when the blade I'm using starts to get dull and that's my warning it's time to put in a new blade.1 point
