One more for a newly retired relative
Lucky2 and 3 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
This one is for a niece of ours that just retired and has her birthday 3 days before mine. I wanted to make her a plaque for her retirement and this was the only retirement plaque I could find, in my quick searches. It is rather masculine but I still think she will enjoy it anyway. It is the thought that counts, so they say. This is a Sue Mey pattern from www.scrollsawartist.com for those new people that may not know about this great pattern maker Dick heppnerguy4 points -

I’ve seen where it was mentioned to use wax paper. I get into trouble if I touch the wax paper again . So I found that a plastic garbage bag works well, and no additional garbage being made since you can still use the bag after the glue dries. I also use a body filler spreader to spread the glue around on the bag. Then just dip the piece in the glue and glue up. I did about 6 backers in just a couple minutes. Hope this tip helps someone from sleeping in the dog house after using all the wax paper. Don’t ask how I know.2 points

I don't typically tell what I sell but just thought some might find what I'm selling interesting. This is today's orders.. I won't bore you all with every days orders.. LOL but anyway these orders came in today.. and I'm mailing them out in the morning other than the fishing clock.. I'm still making that one.. The plane ornament isn't today's order.. but one that I'm mailing out tomorrow.. Kind of a slower day today.. but maybe a better day tomorrow.. NOTE: It pays to keep Christmas ornaments on the site year round.. since I've just sold these two in the last few days..2 points

a box to go with her basket
neptun and one other reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
As long as the wife is away for a few days, I thought I would just go make her something more to add to the basket, I cut for her a couple of days ago, to give her for Mother's Day. I only had some BB Ply to use so that is what she gets this time. This is a pattern from the newest Scroll saw woodworking and crafts magazine. She saw it and liked it and even said she wanted me to make her one, some day. So that day has come. Dick heppnerguy2 points -
I had found a few places to sell my stuff on consignment. one that is about 40mls away sold one last week (prince) so we went to get the cash. in the time it took us to drive to the bookstore they sold a second (petty). it turns out that the woman that got tom is a "comic com" promoter. anyway she is setting up the first "Paducah Galaxy Of Heroes Con" and is giving me a table free of charge. it inspired me, so this is my work for the day. i am so excited!!!2 points

Pine board
Scrolling Steve and one other reacted to Phantom Scroller for a topic
I usually go to the cheap shop over here like B & M etc and find pine shelving with the brackets for £4.99 for a 4 ft length and then cut it up and even use the wooden brackets. Roly https://www.bmstores.co.uk/products/lovon-pine-shelf-90cm-3160902 points -
After reading the opinions on this subject, it's like asking a school kid "Which is better, Ford or Chevy". Do whatever you are comfortable with. I once knew a used car dealer that when he was trying to push a certain car onto a buyer, he would say, "That's the only one I have that you would look really good in". Feed you blade anyway that you feel that you look good doing. jerry2 points

Hegner Scroll Stand
SCROLLSAW703 and one other reacted to stoney for a topic
Wow! I have expressed my personal opinions of Hegner short comings here but the design of their scroll saw stands wasn't one of them. For anyone that doesn't like the 2 legs in front configuration seems to me there might be a simple fix. Why not just mount the saw on the stand with the single leg in front? May not be Ideal but it seems like it would work.2 points -

Top Feed Blade Ideas
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to TripleJScroller for a topic
I don't know, I usually work with 2/0 and 3/0 spiral blades and just find it very easy to bend and break them, especially when trying to fumble under the table of my saw. Bottom feeding has never yet been a problem for me, I have zero problems with it even when cutting large pieces. Sure its easier to see the whole from the top, but to me that's the only part that easier and not so much easier that I feel it's worth it. Its just a comfort thing, we all do what we find most comfortable.2 points -

Hi guys and gals. Well I gave this a shot. It's one of Steve Goods patterns. I was able to cut two at a time so I can keep one and give the other one away. They are a little tough to put together without getting any glue squeezing out. I still have to other one to put together yet. I have to see if I can get the pattern that Dick did. I like that one to. This is almost 3 inches tall and 10 inches wide, cut with # 3/0 reverse.2 points

Hegner Scroll Stand
SCROLLSAW703 and one other reacted to Sycamore67 for a topic
Since you do not own a Hegner, I am surprised at your conjectures about it. I own a Hegner with a stand and have absolutely no problems with the stand. I have the stand slightly elevated on the back leg so it tips forward a bit. I also have a foot rest to put my feet on.2 points -
I bought my own roll of wax paper and keep it in the shop. I got in serious trouble years and years ago. I need a container to clean the table saw blade in...the coffee can and everything else I found was too small. I took Rubber Maid pie container. I still use it. It works super. BUT that was the last time I took anything out of the kitchen for the shop.2 points

Hegner Scroll Stand
SCROLLSAW703 reacted to Rockytime for a topic
After seeing the Hegner saw stands it has always seemed to me that the saw is mounted backwards. If the single leg faced the operator, the operators knees would slip comfortably around it. Unless wearing a kilt or dress of course. As it is presently mounted do not your shins contact the cross piece. This not an earth shaking problem for me since I do not own a Hegner. I do however, own a couple Hawks and have often thought If I were to design a stand it would be triangular and always be stable and more comfortable. But then, alas, what do I know?1 point -
What a relief!
amazingkevin reacted to Old Joe for a topic
I have gotten into doing relief scrolls as of late. I did a few variations of Steve Good's Wood Spirit a while ago. Yesterday I finished this Kopopelli Arrowhead adapted from a pattern that I think I found on here, but now I regrettably can't find it to give credit where credit is due, though making it into a relief piece was my idea. At first I made a mistake, thought it was kindling, but then figured a way to save it. It came out "okay." The second relief is from a Steve Good butterfly relief done out of African Padauk. I wasn't thrilled with the empty fretwork, so I filled it with colorful Fimo clay, baked it and got a quasi-inlay effect.1 point -

Hegner Scroll Stand
SCROLLSAW703 reacted to Rockytime for a topic
If you have ever sat on a three legged milk stool you would understand. The three legged Hegner is always stable whereas a four legged stand has leg levelers to make it stand without wobble to compensate for uneven floors. The three legged Hegner will also fit into a corner where space is a premium.1 point -

Thanks for sharing Kevin. Maybe if you ask nice, she will get you a couple rolls of wax paper of your own. I am usually the one repurposing items from the kitchen to my workroom. At least I don’t get in trouble that way.1 point

An elementary school teacher from a nearby town contacted our club to ask us to give a demonstration of things to make/do with wood working tools. We spent two hours there with the 24 children ranging in ages from four to eleven. We brought ,with us, toys that were finished but needed wheels installed. Those that wanted to , painted them (cars and critters) and installed the wheels. Five guys from our club attended and we had the kids nailing into boards, (they loved that) nailing together small bird houses and installing the wheels. I also brought thirty 3-d cut horses and I taped them back together after cutting so the kids could take the pieces apart and reveal the horse inside. It is good we had five of us there. Four would also have worked but no less. There were three teachers there to help, also. With all that adult supervision the children were very well behaved. (Of course, a lot more fun than arithmetic!)1 point

With the blade pointing down it will be over the hole in the table. Just move blank hole under the blade.1 point

My lasers should be delivered today. Should make things much easier. I have made the transition to top feeding and liking it a lot. Makes life a bit easier when doing the fretwork. Phil1 point

A little while ago Steve Good showed using a laser light to locate the position to top feed, with the work flat on the table. I had tried top feeding and did not like it at all, but after watching his video, I put together one using his ideas. It works great, now I will start using top feeding. This shows his idea. Snipping Tool. What's it good for?
OCtoolguy reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
If I find the snipping tool to start to be a problem, then I might look up your suggested program, but for now, I find it fast, easy and enjoyable so for now, I will stick with it. but thanks for the info Dick heppnerguy1 point -
