  1. After the cabinet maker donated some huge beautiful panels to my cause, he had some wishes for small items. He just gave me the words - I created the following: Here they are:

    Name Plate

Did this for a guy at work who moonlights as a tattoo artist. Since Old English seems to be a favorite in the tattoo community, I figured to give it a try. At 150 points, it is still a bit fragile. Made of cherry with dogwood base and finished with gloss lacquer. Sorry for the size of the photo, it had to cropped heavily.

    Site Issues & New Upgrade

Howdy All. There was some wonkiness on the forums today. There was some trouble with one of the databases. I think I have it sorted out, now. Sorry for the troubles. :/ While we're on the subject, I'll be updating SSV software sometime this week (I'm hoping Monday, but we'll see). So the site may be unavailable for a short time while the software updates. It shouldn't take long. It's a full version upgrade, so there's going to be some new features. I'll announce them as they roll out. My first priority is to make sure everything is working correctly. Thanks all for your patience!

    Graduation

A nurse at my mom's nursing home asked me about making something for her son's graduation. Had I not come across Scroll Saw Village awhile back I couldn't have made this for her. Thanks again Travis for the great tutorial. These things take me hours start to finish. I'd starve if I was trying to make a living.

  14. Here is my contribution. Designed by Ken Keyes as a Mother's Day pattern but I think it will become my baby gift from now on. The second one was a free pattern from Sheila Landry I did last year for Jan, reclaimed maple of course. Jeff

  15. Yesterday I used a piece again. Went with the idea of Octoolguy. Bent over a very small corner. Took the flat side of a pencil, held it firmly down on the crease and ran it across a couple of times. Because the paper & the liner were 2 different radiuses, they sheared apart. When the pencil was lifted, two things happened: 1. The sticky shelf liner paper popped back down flat & the paper stayed folded, providing a very nice handle. 2. It put a smile on my face to see how ridiculously easy that was. Again, the credit goes to Octoolguy. jerry

    I see a trend...

Three events in the books... Event #1 - Goal of selling 100 puzzles - Sold 97 Event #2 - Goal of selling 100 puzzles - Sold 96 Event #3 Today - Goal of selling 50 puzzles - Sold 49 Coming up a little short, but at least my goal/expectations are within reason. Today's event was unusual in that of the 49 sold only 4 of them were the kids puzzles which I sell for 1/2 the price of my main puzzles. So, dollar wise I did better than usual which was nice. Event #4 next Saturday, WoofStock dog festival. Goal of 50. Let's see how much I miss it by. :-) Then I have a week off before my weekly Farmers Market begins Memorial Day Weekend. Iggy

  19. Brad, I don't understand the above statement. JUST an old trucker. There are proud truckers in my family. While my daughter earns an unbelievable salary as the CFO for an oil company and her husband shuttles trailers at night for a large furniture maker. Strange combination? My son-in-law's contribution is as important to the family as my daughters. My favorite cousin trucked cattle his entire career until his retirement. He was a cowboy. Don't know how well I'd be eating were it not for the long haul cowboys. You are important to all of us.

  20. My shop is shut down while transitioning to a new city (moving from the Dallas area to the Austin area, for work....anyone know a good neighborhood with good homes for crazy-low prices in the Round Rock/Leander/Cedar Park area?). Here's a couple I made for my wife a while back, long before I discovered SSV. Yeah, they should be on a backing and framed, but she likes them, so...

    John 3:16

This is my attempt of the John 3:16 verse. Thanks Dick (Heppnerguy) for showing the one you did inspiring me to do it. I've had the pattern for a long time. It is 1/8" Baltic Birch, the backer is stained with General Gel stain color "Nutmeg". First time I have stained a backer and first time I have used a Gel stain and I am real pleased with how it turned out. I have had some real disasters with other things I have attempted to stain. The piece is 21" x 21". A free pattern from The Berry Basket.

  25. This is a Steve Goods pattern I wanted to try. I used poplar and it's about 8 inches tall. It was a little tricky to do but I managed to finish it. I started out using a #5 polar but when I cut out the U and the V, I noticed that the underside was a little wider when I took the scrap piece out. I guess the blade was wandering a little underneath so I changed to a #7 polar and seem to cut a little better but it was a slow process. The block of wood was 1.5 x 1.5. Maybe I'lll try a #9

    For Heppnerguy

Dick ( @heppnerguy ) asked me to post a photo of my pocket angels that I give to people in need. The patterns are by Sue Mey and I think there are about 10 or 12 in the set, here is a photo of just 2 of them. Marg

  38. I can do it and have done it. Its all is about your skill of scrolling. The little tricks you teach yourself when learning to scroll such as let the blade cut and apply just enough force to cut. Look ahead of the pattern line anticipating the move and so on. I know the photos I am showing are not circles but the same idea is with patterns to get them right so they line up well. These are older photos and I have no way to blow them up but if you can enlarge you will see some pretty tight accuracy. This technique is very important when doing those fold out baskets or trivets as they were called. That is 10 maybe 12 circles next to each other constantly getting smaller. I always checked peoples work when I see those and that tells me what kind of scroller they are. Bad cuts jump up and out at you easily. That is where I learned to cut accurately because I made a ton of those trivets over the years when they were popular. have no web photos because that was before I even owned a computer. Have plenty of still photos.
