    Spots of tears

Hello everyone!! After some time with no time to spend with the scrollsaw (due to exams), I´m back with this fantastic project. Thanks to Grampa for the great pattern, because I really enjoyed doing it. It is made of 5mm plywood, with a black back, and I called it "spots of tears", remembering an old story about how spots appear on the jaguar and cheetah´s skins. Thank you again for the pattern, and I hope you like it

    Site Issues & New Upgrade

Howdy All. There was some wonkiness on the forums today. There was some trouble with one of the databases. I think I have it sorted out, now. Sorry for the troubles. :/ While we're on the subject, I'll be updating SSV software sometime this week (I'm hoping Monday, but we'll see). So the site may be unavailable for a short time while the software updates. It shouldn't take long. It's a full version upgrade, so there's going to be some new features. I'll announce them as they roll out. My first priority is to make sure everything is working correctly. Thanks all for your patience!

    Dewalt or Delta

Amazon has the Dewalt for only 90 dollars more then the Delta.....Almost a no-brainer!.... Is there anything about the Dewalt that the owners don't like?.... The only thing I can think off is the arm not staying up when you reinsert the blade. I believe that the Delta arm stays up by itself. Help me decide!!!

    Klingspor Sander

The time has come for me to break down and buy the Klingspor sander. I don't find Klingspor in the search department so I'll just ask again. Just what is it I need to purchase. I only want to purchase one. There seem to be a lot of options so I need to know just what I need.

  10. This is a Steve Goods pattern I wanted to try. I used poplar and it's about 8 inches tall. It was a little tricky to do but I managed to finish it. I started out using a #5 polar but when I cut out the U and the V, I noticed that the underside was a little wider when I took the scrap piece out. I guess the blade was wandering a little underneath so I changed to a #7 polar and seem to cut a little better but it was a slow process. The block of wood was 1.5 x 1.5. Maybe I'lll try a #9

    Klingspor Sander

Thanks Paul and Larry for the info. Since my pier will collapse before my ship comes in I will be getting the sanding mop rather than the mac mop. For the price of the mac mop I won't live long enough to justify the cost but the sanding mop will do everything I will need to do. I am currently using my Scotchbrite on my lathe as it has DC. That is how I would use the sanding mop.

I have the regullar mouse brand, I have had them for some time I can't thinnk of the brand . I use them on all my projects with no damage to the cuttings. the cost of one is some where around $30. Klingspor Sander

Thank you for your response. Yes, the Klinspor sanding mop is what I meant. I just want to use it for removing the fuzz from my cuttings. I also want to use on my lathe as it is connected to dust collection. I know I need an arbor and need to know what mop I should use. I don't want something too aggressive.

    Klingspor Sander

I am uncertain about what you are asking. Are you talking about the sanding mops or Mac mops or something else. Also, exactly what will be the main use.

    Which sander?

I have been using Dewalt ROS have had more than 10 years got it at Rockler on sale as a refurbished sander. It is variable speed and I have been more than pleased with it. I have replaced the hook and loop pad once and replaced the cord once. Well actually twice the first time was from use the outside cord cover was showing wire. The second time we moved and smarty that I am I put the sander in with the tines of a small tiller. Guess how many holes were cut in the cord not all the way through and did work with out shock but decided needed to replace. Both time ordered from Replacement and installed.

    Which sander?

I have an old Black and Decker random orbit sander but mostly use a hand sanding block. I just find it gives more control when sanding delicate work. Rob

Dewalt OS. Works well. Have had it for many years. Mostly use with 220 grit.

    Which sander?

I don't have that many sanders, although I will be in the market for that Rigid/Wen Belt/Spindle sander combo soon! That being said, I have HF RO - very good for the money, Palm - Craftsman - I've had it for a long time, and belt sander B&D - also had it for a very long time and hardly ever use it anymore I don't use any of these for sanding scroll projects however. I only use them for large sanding projects like coffee tables, cabinets etc. I do use the RO sometimes for my frames but even that is seldom. I mostly use sanding blocks and sanding strips for scroll projects. I also have a bunch of sanding drums I use with my drill press for scroll projects. Hope that helps somewhat.

  30. Since the subject of cutting rounds came up I decided to cobble up a circle cutter for my HF 9" band saw. It is one of the most used tools in my shop with the exception of my scroll saw. This was about a four hour project using scrap wood some of which has been in the garage for perhaps 20 years. All tools except for the table saw are HF. Nothing is square and the components are not all the correct thickness but it works. There are many photos as I tried to show it step by step. It is crude but works beautifully. I don't know how to separate the photos with text so they are some what sequential. All paint sticks are courtesy Home Depot. Of course if anyone reports the theft I will certainly deny it. Questions gladly answered.

I do not keep track of time, but did not take as long as you would think. The top and bottom are stack cut together as well as the two sides and the small and larger filler pieces. So, there are really only five pieces to cut of the detailed scroll work. The outline of the dark wood pieces can also be stack cut but there is additional scrolling in them (that does not show in the picture) that has to be done individually. I think cutting the letters out took me as long as the other parts. Thank you all for the nice comments.

  33. I built one for my band saw. It uses a pin nail and does not penetrate all the way through which is good for round table tops and the like :).

  37. I have not ever used a mop, but every time this topic comes up I think about buying one. I have things like this https://www.amazon.com/3M-Scotch-Brite-Fine-Finishing-Sander-9416NA/dp/B00004Z4DK that I use, and really like. Several years ago Menards had them on clearance (and really cheap) so I bought all of them. I think I am down to my last one so I might have to switch up my system soon.
