  3. I delivered this today. Meet the customer at my last event. We talked about this that day. After a little back and forth we finally settled on a design. I came up with this concept while talking to him at the event. This was for his Granddaughter who is graduating High School this year, and going to College later this fall. I designed my own pattern and frame. Frame is 16” x 20”, walnut, with a Roman ogee on the outside, set shallow, and a chamfer on the inside. I painted the uniform purple with yellow underneath . Clear coated with satin polyurethane. Then glued on real buttons.

  4. Today was the 1st annual Woofstock dog festival... Strike 1 - It's the first year of it Strike 2 - It was originally scheduled in April but got rained out and this was the reschedule date so advertising/marketing was thin leading up to the new date. Strike 3 - They charge $10 admission So, I still came home with $410 in my pocket, but only sold 17 puzzles. I didn't take the usual batch of kids puzzles that I sell 2 for $25 because I wanted to display more dogs and from that aspect it worked out well, but overall the event was slow. It was only 4 1/2 hours long so at least I'm home at a decent time. No more new events... no more "festival" type events without first attending to see if it's worth signing up for the next year. I'm fully booked the rest of this year with "sure thing" events, so I don't have to waste my time at other events this year. Local farmers market cranks up 2 weeks from today. Looking forward to staying near home for a while. Funny/Odd thing though... A woman came up and was looking and said to her son "Ethan, look at this one, it's cool." And I asked "Did I hear you say his name is Ethan?" She confirmed and I reached over and showed her an Elephant with the name Ethan in it that I use as an example to show people that I offer custom names. She said "OMG! I love elephants and with my sons name in it, it's perfect!" She bought it. LOL Iggy

    Use Dewalt question...

I found a used Dewalt at a "local" used shop that seems to sell most anything.....They want $250 for it. The unit looks pretty clean on the pics...comes with a stand. The table looks clean, no rust.... I can't tell if it's a type 1 or 2...no closeup of the motor. I am going to go look at it later in the week. Other then firing it up and cutting a piece of wood with it, is there anything else I should be looking for? I will be bring my blades and some wood for testing. Thanks Lew

    Use Dewalt question...

If I recall, one of the types had an issue with the table being warped on some. I'd bring a straight edge to check it out.

  14. The type is stamped on the plate plate that is on the motor. I know type 1's are regarded as the better of the two, since they were made in North America, but they will be getting pretty long in the tooth these days. I don't recall exactly when they switched, but it must be 15+ years ago by now. An aging type 1 may not necessarily be a better saw than a newer type 2. Type 2's had some quality issues during the early production runs, but I think those got resolved. One that seemed to be a chronic problem was that the blade would under or over cut, front to back. This was due to some slight mis-alignment of the blade arms or the table. There are some fixes for it on the internet. One involves shimming the front or the back of the table, where it mounts to the frame. The way to tell if this is a problem with this particular saw, is to take a thick piece of wood, the thicker the better. Gently feed it into the blade, just enough to nick the edge. Carefully examine the kerf. If it is deeper on the top or the bottom of the cut, then that saw may have the problem. It isn't necessarily a deal breaker, but will take some tweaking to correct. You can use this in negotiating the price. I sold my DeWalt a couple years ago for $200. It was a type 2 and was over 10 years old, but ran great and never gave me any problems. I felt the $200 was a fair price and would have kept it rather than sell it for less. I would start out offering $175, work you way up to $200, if need be, but stand pat on that number, unless this thing is pristine.

  36. thank you for all the good advice. Trust me, it has been just a few hours at a time, & sometimes not everyday. It just depends on how I feel. I'm back on the scroll saw! I'm workin' on a dream catcher. I had the catcher already cut, & one feather. I cut another feather thursday, & worked on another project. I started cuttin' another feather yesterday & had to quit. Had a Sawbones appointment & Mary Ann did too. It feels good to be back in the shop!:):)

  38. After 3 days of hard work in the shop, I just finished 12 trophies for a rodeo competition that will be held next week, I ,add the pattern with Inkscape and they were cut from 5/8" pine with 1/16 plywood backup. I didn't made a good selection in the wood, lot of resin on it and letters were a little bit complicated to cut, but finally was done. I hope you like it.

Some how I think she is already aware of you using it. How else can you explain to her how it got that look, if you had to use HER COOKING IRON? You convicted yourself when you showed her your nice new project. I hope the night air is warm where you live, at least the dog didn't complain when you put up it's new home, and now you come and take it over Hey, nice, fun item Dick heppnerguy

  43. Yesterday I used a piece again. Went with the idea of Octoolguy. Bent over a very small corner. Took the flat side of a pencil, held it firmly down on the crease and ran it across a couple of times. Because the paper & the liner were 2 different radiuses, they sheared apart. When the pencil was lifted, two things happened: 1. The sticky shelf liner paper popped back down flat & the paper stayed folded, providing a very nice handle. 2. It put a smile on my face to see how ridiculously easy that was. Again, the credit goes to Octoolguy. jerry

  46. My shop is not set up at all. I’ve actually got two cars in there and pushed all my woodwork tools etc back to one corner. Nothing hooked up or plugged in other than the scroll saws. I have my daughters old car 2000 Chevy Blazer ( before I got her the Jeep ) in here doing a wheel bearing and some other minor work. Will probably be my youngest sons car once he gets his license so sort of a father son fixer upper this summer. The other car is a race car my oldest son is building ( a 1984 Nissan 300zx ). He picked it up over the winter and I let him put it inside to work out of the weather on getting it to run. He did get it running but that was it. Been sitting ever since and I’m going to kick it out of my shop real soon. because with the warmer weather coming I will be setting my shop back up some. This whole shop was built as a wood shop. But when the ground prep was going on they chopped the power line to my other ( car shop ) and the old line wasn’t to code so we haven’t yet run a new power line to the other shop. Thankfully I don’t have a huge amount of woodshop tools yet and so we can work on our cars etc in here for now. One think nice about not yet perminently having the shop set up is. I’ve learned a little more about what I want to put where and what wiring / outlets etc I need. So this is all a work in progress. I normally use up one whole side where the blazer sits. But I needed to do some work on it and of coarse right after my son put that other car in, so I just moved everything back into the corner. I’m still working to build some shelves and cabinets etc. We just put up this shop not long ago so basically work in progress. Shop is 24 x 32 with a 14 x 32 loft upstairs where I store my finished pieces and also where I finish my pieces etc.

  47. The main portion of my shop is 12 x 14 on the lower level of a bi-level home. The space is supposed to be a bedroom. I have forced air HVAC and blocked the vents. The ceiling is really low, especially where the HVAC runs are - but I'm really short so not much of an issue. Many of the pics here are a few years old, none the less everything is essentially the same. I supposed some equipment may have been purchased or moved? I have one window but it's full of stuff like my 20" box fan dust collector. The door is in the SW corner. I'm a Shopsmith user. It's my main power tool and you'll see it in my pics. It's my table saw, belt and disk sander, lath, band saw, jointer and drill press. I'm not smart enough to figure out how to put comments with specific pics so.... I'll point out a couple of things here, sorry. In pic one is a bench I made. In the 5th pic is my router table and in the 4th you can see how I store it so I can keep the floor space open. Notice that the tables are actually different. In one is a Rockler and in the other a Kreg, a more recent pic. In pic 6 is the Shopsmith set up in drill press mode. I drill 37mm holes for cabinet doors. In pic 8 & 9 is a drying rack I made. It's great if you have lots of parts drying. I've mentioned before in a couple of threads I prefer to apply finish before assembly. In the next pic you can see how I store it in the garage. Pic 10 is the flip top work station planer and chop saw. It looks a lot different today because I've take sets to collect more dust from the saw. I posted a thread about it some time ago. Pic 12 is the Shopsmith in band saw configuration. I was cutting a large piece. The last pic is the Shopsmith in table saw mode with a hand made cantilevered out-feed table. The new portion of the shop I'll post tomorrow. As it turns out it took a lot longer to post these other pics.

  48. Last fall I was going to have a detached garage built and move my shop into it. Well, that didn't happen. HOA had a problem with the door location and any other location would have been unworkable. So, I decided to cleanup and organize the shop I had in my 3 car garage. When we first moved into this house I installed the 4' LED ceiling lights and they made a huge difference. I had a electrician friend install a 30 amp line for my table saw and shopvac. Before, the CB would pop every time both were running. I also added the overhead reeled power cords. Last week I had the garage door folks mount lighted upper panels for even more light. All my tools are on wheeled carts and can be quickly moved to either side to get 2 cars in. Most of the time the cars are outside except when hail is predicted. Somewhat common in SC. I have posted 3 of the carts I built based on the Crestron wood plan., the latest being the router cart. I may eventually spray paint them. All the melamine cabinets are from Lowes and store hardware, small tools and consumables. The ones under the windows I built myself and the compressor is stored under one. I found a plan on Pinterest for the wood storage bin. I have a crosscut sled mounted on the side of my table saw and I just finished a miter sled. My wife wants me to make picture frames for her paintings. Things are looking pretty neat right now but when I'm involved in a project, I can look like a tool explosion with stuff all over the shop.
