  1. I just finished this one, well except for putting a finish on it. The reason, I think this is one of those that begs to be painted, but not sure I can do it. This is a pattern by Grampa. It is a great patten. I did it in natural edge Basswood. Wish I would have had a piece with more bark on the edges.... I really enjoyed cutting it, may try to paint it... But... I am no painter.

  2. One of mom's nurses wanted a plaque for her son who just graduated from nursing school. He was also on a scholarship for cross country running. Had fun designing this one. Pretty fun to cut it too but glad it's done and stayed in one piece.

Steve good pattern, a lot more work to this than it looked like.well worth the effort though. Made it for my wife for mother’s day. This was a trial, gonna try making larger one. Maple, cherry, oak ( or perhaps another speices just like oak but darker) and Santos’s mahogany dolphin drawer pulls. Yet to put in drawer felt

    Walnut cross

I used a rotted piece if walnut with this one. I’ve had this wood for years, just waited for the right pattern to use. I tried an old piece of oak for contrast but my wife likes the walnut more. I’m not sure you can see the grain but it’s a pretty piece of wood. I won’t sell this one for sure.

Yes already have a request for two more. I'm lucky that my office shares a dumpster with a furniture builder that throws all his scrap wood out. Dove into the dumpster to pull that cherry out last week. He saw me and is now saving all his scraps for me

  29. I think you are right about the painting making it even better than it is. If you are uncertain about your painting ability, try a practice coloring first, Make a copy of the pattern and try painting that. Let us know how it turns out.

  40. Here is my contribution. Designed by Ken Keyes as a Mother's Day pattern but I think it will become my baby gift from now on. The second one was a free pattern from Sheila Landry I did last year for Jan, reclaimed maple of course. Jeff

    My Hegner Modifications

Jim just google Baby Soda Bottles and you will find them. They really work well I like the lip on top it holds the bottle right where you want it. They are also easy to put a label on.

  44. I like the look of those blade holders. Do you remember where you picked them up, and how much they set you back?

    My Hegner Modifications

I did the same first modification you and Jim did also on my 14". Since the arm is short, not a lot of height is gained on raising the upper arm. And I tried using the quick clamp on the bottom arm, with a change of some of the clamp holders. I was not real happy with the change, hard to get used to the quick clamp on the bottom, I have a hard enough time using the quick clamp on the top arm. Maybe with a lot of time I may get better/faster at blade changes. This modification may work better on the polymax with a longer arm, but I do not want to saw the casting on this saw.

  46. This is along the lines I have been thinking about. May have to do some experimenting.

  47. Seeing your modifications stirs up creativity for my shop .I'm not happy with my blade holders and after seeing yours i see whats wrong with mine.your dust collecting bag is a very simple mod i am going to have to copy that one to.be easy on me i can only bend so much.

  48. Interesting. Do you use a hold down? Most, including myself. remove that. I can see where it would be nice to have the upper arm raise a little more. I added the "Quick Clamp" to mine. I love that. Wouldn't be with out it. I keep trying to figure a way to and an auxiliary table on mine to have a larger table. I want it to be easy to take on an off. I will come up with something some day.

  49. Hello, folks. So I recently acquired a 1992 Hegner 18-V on Craigslist (I paid $500, stand included, in case you're wondering). It seems to vibrate quite a bit, and I also seem to be breaking a lot of blades. They always break at the upper end of the blade clamp. I looked in troubleshooting portion of the manual, and it said to "check blade clamps for straight up-and-down position when blade is tensioned." So I checked with an engineer's level, and it's not quite straight. I've attached a photo so you can see. I don't think this is how it's supposed to be. The manual also says to "check blade clamps seats for horizontal alignment" but I am not sure how to check for that. What do you all think?
