    Stude-Alcoholic

I keep going back to Wooden Visions and Charles Dearing patterns. Really like the Studebaker designs. 1/8" BBPW on 1/4" backer. Lots of cutout areas. Always need to tape everything back in place. I have to drill multiple holes since I only have an EX-16 and the plaque is 20" wide. Had to go to the copy store to enlarge it so it matched the Golden Hawk Plaque.

  2. My wife, Margaret, and I will be leaving this afternoon for a visit to Finland and Norway. In Finland, we will be visiting a (3 generation) family of 7 people that we have known for many years. I designed and made a few bookmarks out of fir veneer to give them as a memento. The books are very thin (1.3 millimetres thick).

    SSV Patron - New Features!

Howdy All. All kinds of things happening behind the curtain. Most of it is admin/techy stuff and troubleshooting. But I did make a nice improvement to our SSV Supporter system and simplified the process! We now have 1 screen that shows all of the subscription options for SSV Patrons. You can only have 1 active subscription active at one time and this will easily manage that. You'll have the option of switching between plans, which is much easier with this new system. Updating and renewing is also easy to find without having to dig through menus. You can find the subscriptions or manage your subscriptions under the Support SSV tab in the navigation bar. You can also manage your subscriptions in the pulldown menu in the upper right corner of the website (next to your avatar). It's located under the Settings section and called Manage Subscriptions. On your profile page, you'll see a new block in the left column showing your supporter status, which is a nice touch. I've also changed the Supporter tiers a bit. The standard supporter level remains at $10/yr and that works pretty well. We have a handful of folks who choose to support SSV on a monthly basis of $5/month at the gold level. We also had a silver level at $3/month, which was a complete flop. I had several folks want to support SSV a bit more, but the jump from $10/year for the SSV Patron to $60/year for SSV Gold Patron pretty steep. So I changed the Silver level from $3/month to $20/YEAR instead. So I figured the $20/year easier to digest. All options now offer Paypal or Stripe to process payment and offers handy recurring payment. Payment info isn't stored on SSV for securtity reasons and payment processing is taken care of by either Paypal or Stripe. Anyway, the new system should be a bit easier to manage. Everything seemed to go well during the conversion. But if you see anything strange or you need help switching between plans, please let me know. I'm happy to help. Again, thank you for your continued support! I greatly appreciate it!

  6. Scrappile I agree about the size with the Pegas MG blades I go down one size from the FD blades with no loss of control or capability. As a top feeder blade flexability is not very important as I don't really bend the blade to install it. But I have noticed they do seem more flexable. Fredfret

  7. I like the Modified Geometry blades a lot they are reverse only on the bottom but I think they perform well. They are a little more aggressive than the FDUR Try a dozen then decide. Fredfret Wichita, Ks

  8. I've got some #9 blades Rocky that'd take a fair piece of your finger if'n ya got it in the way of the blade. They are a perty fierce blade. I don't use them to often. Just for sizin' a project & cuttin' thick hard wood. The interestin' part about blades like that Mr. Rocky is a couple dozen last a long time.:) It's good to hear you're tryin' numerous sizes & types of blades, Sir. Sometimes it's kinda fun to take a break from the seriousness of things & try different blades, different breeds of blades, thickness & tooth setting, just for the experience, & to see for ourselves just exactly what tickles our fancy. Dependin' on what sort of projects your interests are centered around, thickness of wood ya prefer, species of wood, all these things, imo, determine your choice of blades you keep in your arsenal. I'm interested to hear what your go to blade is, Rocky.:) How are ya likin' your Hawk, Sir?

    Few more bits

Managed a few bits the spanners are requests from people at a charity I volunteer at and the Marilyn clock was a simple one they had the vinyl I had the movement and the drift wood beach hut sign a brain tumour patient I see at the charity I volunteer at wanted it done so I got him to write it, all I done was burnt it in and sealed it so the sign is actually his as he wrote it which I felt the best way to go for me rather then me do it in type cast or stencil this way it has personal touch still.

  15. I wanted to thank everybody who chooses to support SSV by buying a SSV Patron badge. I really appreciate it. It costs a lot to run a cool community like SSV. We don't have a large publishing company to flip the bill for us. So without support from folks like you, SSV wouldn't be possible. As a special Thank You for SSV Patrons, I've added a nice little feature that I think you'll enjoy. If you are a SSV Patron (at any level), you'll now have the option to bookmark a post for reference later! You can organize the bookmarks into categories, create a title, and add notes! Bookmarks can be private if you choose. Or share your favorite bookmarks on your profile page by making your bookmarks public! At the bottom of the post, you'll see a "Bookmark" button. Click that and add it to your bookmark list. You can manage your bookmarks in the pulldown menu in the upper right corner of the website (next to your avatar). It's located under the Content section and called Manage Bookmarks. From here you can delete, or rearrange your bookmarks. Cool, huh?! I hope you enjoy this little added perk for being an SSV Patron. This is just my way of saying Thank You! Have fun!

    My Hegner Modifications

Over a period of time I have made a few changes, or I like to think improvements to my Hegner Multi-Max 22V. Thought I would share them with other owners. First pictures shows how I cut off the cast boss and relocated the upper arm stop to allow the upper arm to raise higher and changed to a lighter spring. Next I raised the hold down arm and installed a longer rod for the hold down. Next I made and installed a sawdust catcher under the table. At the bottom inside of the wood part I installed a piece of 1/4" hardware cloth to catch the bottom blade clamp when a blade breaks. Lastly I made and installed a blade rack. These modifications have made the saw a little more user friendly.

    Blade type recommendations

Hi everyone i been thinking about trying the pagas blades out. Been using FD blades for years now' normally the ultra reverse blades. But I was wondering what type of pagas blade would be close comparison to the FD ultra reverse blades. I know I could have went to bear woods site and asked them but I thought I would ask the experts here for there input. Thanks Todd

  22. Not really. Just my experience with an Olson #7 Skip Tooth blade. I'm cutting 1/2" poplar. That blade chews through lumber like an alligator on a cadaver. I'm not posting this as an endorsement just what I observed. Lots of fun experimenting with blades.

  24. Another thing I found, and maybe it is just my imagination, but in the smaller sizes (#2/0 through #3), I have not used anything larger in the MG blades, the MG blades seem more flexible than the FD. So what I use in a #2/0 size in a FD blade, I use a #0 in the MG blade. Anyone else notice this or think they notice this?

  25. Ahh, the Hawk. It is great. I love the saw. Like goin' from a Yugo to a Lamborghini. My Ryobi to a Hawk. Wonderful machines. I am now cutting the Case logo from 3/4" MDF. I had the pattern resized 195% to 16" tall. Don't know how I'll paint it but will find someone to do it for me.

  36. Thank you Mr. Kevin, I appreciate your kind words, my friends. I'm an honest fella, & speak my mind, but from the heart as much as possible. I strive to be the best man I can be. I also believe respect is earned, not given. Our social skills are as much of a valuable tool here as are our abilities. Regardless of the level of expertise you have, there is always something to learn from someone. New friends to make, new folks to help up the trail. That's my take on it.

    Tower Done

Paris did not like us and we were only there for 5 days. Our final half day was a tour of the Eiffel Tower. The guide was lovely and he was Canadian. We got to the second level and we were having a a look at the great view when some security people started to put ropes across section and you were not allowed past them. The guide found out that a package had been left lying around in other words a bomb scare. We were not allowed to access the lifts and the people at the very top had to stay there. We were asked to leave so we had to walk down the steps in the rain (which only started when we started to walk down the steps,) and it took us 20 minutes and when we reached the bottom my legs felt like jelly. But to answer your question it is probably about 15 minutes. Marg

  42. I tried my Pagas saw blades on my Eiffel Tower and the first time I used them, I did not like them because they were too aggressive for my liking, However do to my lack of blade supply, I resorted back to them and I think they are going to be my "go to blades" now.. I am not sure if anyone really figures out the scroll saw blade. Dick heppnerguy

  47. Here the rules and what I need thank you for joining Christmas In July Ornament Exchange Hi Everyone I thought I would try a Ornament exchange in July I think it would be something different and fun. Anyone that would like to participate, please send me the following information via PM or email. The cut off date will be around the middle of June. I'm hoping to get more people to sign up. I should have your list of addresses to you by the end of June . That should allow for enough time for those international packages. Is there any suggestions on what i can do to encourage more people to sign up? Please provide the following information if you would like to participate: Name Address Board name How many ornaments you would like to make (anywhere from 1 to all General Guidelines: 1. Ornament type/pattern is up to you. 2. You get to choose how many ornaments you would like to make. It can be anywhere from 1 to everyone in the group. The choice is yours. So even those folks on a limited income can participate. You do NOT have to send one to everyone in the swap. 3. You are responsible for all postage costs to send out your ornament. Be sure to take this into consideration when making your ornament and committing to the number you'll send out. Flat ornaments will be easier to package and cheaper to ship. 4. Please package your ornament securely. We've had issues in the past where ornaments were destroyed in transit because the postal machine was hungry for wood. Usually a little cardboard and a padded envelope will work. I wouldn't recommend putting your ornament into just a Christmas card or just an envelope and mailing it. Please include your screen name from the boards in the package since most folks will recognize that name before they recognize your real name. Most folks include some type of card with their screen name and real name. 6. We try to wait until just about everyone has received their ornaments so that we don't ruin the surprise. Please wait until at least after christmas to post pics. 7. Have fun. It's so much fun going to the mailbox hoping that you have another ornament waiting for you. Definitely much better than getting a pile of bills! Any questions, please let me know My Email Address is david71372@yahoo.com Thanks David

  49. Yes Paul I do use the hold down. I have some arthritis in my hands and using the hold down on thicker materials really helps with the pain and fatigue. I also have the quick clamp The amount the upper arm now raises is substantial and really comes in play with larger fretwork. I have been thinking about an auxiliary table made of 1/8" baltic birch plywood covered with laminate and held in place by 2 countersunk 10/24 screws. I don't have a problem drilling and tapping my table and 2 screws won't be too inconvenient.
