I need to remember this.. but I'm sure i'll forget this one by the time I need to replace mine, LOL ... sure wish I had a memory like my wife does when she remembers how I made her mad 25 years ago at a certain time and day .. I have a hard time remembering where I put that 10mm socket like 10-15 seconds after I just had it in my hand..4 points

Neptune’s pattern, thanks mate I love this pattern and it was a challenge specifically with the 3/4 Japanese cherry blossom being dense, grainy and hard. Was thinking of splatter painting the frame and did try a color or two but went with straight black in the end poor lighting as i was running out of daylight.3 points

Mail lady stopped today.. which I thought was weird because I hadn't ordered anything or scheduled any pick-ups.. anyway.. she asked me since she knew I did woodwork if I'd be interested in making a rolling pin holder.. she is remodeling her kitchen and doing a retro style decor.. the pin holder will need to hold about 4-5 pins.. on the backer.. she wants it extended and a 60's VW van either cut out or wood burned into the wood.. she prefered wood burned outlines so she can paint it.. Said she had plans for over a year for this piece but with working and everything she hasn't been able to get out to the woodshop.. Turns out she not only a mail lady.. she is also a graphics artist.. maybe I'll have a new pattern designer, LOL Anyone ever made a rolling pin holder... I never knew what they was.. but that's not surprising since the kitchen and I don't get along the greatest.. except the microwave and the toaster oven actually not a bad cook.. but... baking is a different story, LOL2 points

A cheap fix for the tension screw on the EX saws.
SCROLLSAW703 and one other reacted to OCtoolguy for a topic
Kevin, while it's on the top of your head, go buy one, put it in a bag, label it and put it with you EX parts. I took the hold down off of mine and put it with all my saw pieces and parts.2 points -

Hope all goes well and smooth. Sounds like you better start looking for a good heater for the new shop.2 points

I found that the nylon screw on my EX was mushroomed very badly and when I looked at parts on Seyco, they get $16 for a lever/screw kit. Plus shipping and tax. I went to Ace Hardware and bought a 2" 1/4-20 nylon screw for $.59 and it is long enough to make two screws out of it. All I had to do was to cut a slot in one end of it for a flat blade screwdriver. Works great.1 point

Scroll sawing a book
OCtoolguy reacted to Oldmansbike for a topic
A lady I work with asked me today if I had a scroll saw. I told her I did and asked her why she wanted to know. She said she saw a book with some initials cut in it. It was about a 2 inch thick hardback book. The guy told her it was cut with a scroll saw. Has anyone here ever scrolled a book? I told her I might give it a try and see what happens. I would think you would want a bigger blade with a lot of space between the teeth to clean out the cut. What do you guys think? Thanks.1 point -
I have seen some hardcover books that had a portion of the paper cut out in the middle - it was used as a home safe for jewelry! bb1 point

Frustrating beginnings

No the plexiglass was the original game piece I was given to know what shape to cut I think they are molded or maybe laser cut. The wood was my attempt.1 point -
Looks Good! I see you are cutting plexiglass and did a very good job on a somewhat tough material to not mess up. Your choice of wood the sign teaches a good lesson on grain and detail. Course grain and fine detail may not be the best combo but the cutting looks real good. Trust me I have had more than my share of designer firewood some after many hours of cutting. Keep at it. Been away from the Village for a few weeks. Miss alll the good folks and their great work! My wife and I have been in Vermont 4 out of the last 5 weeks house hunting. Leaving Saturday for another 4 days. I did get to complete another Indian portrait during the few days we were home....It needs shellac and mount and then I'll post it .Settlementt here in Maryland is Aug 23 if all goes well , so we need to find a new place ASAP! But anyone who has sold and bought a home knows that the deal can go south real quick and leave all parties empty handed! Stressful times!!! See you all soon and be safe!! Lew1 point

A couple of years ago, one of my nieces came to me with three books she wanted to cut into her initials. We sat down with some graph paper and got the initials drawn. The we wropped the books really tight with saran wrap (like shrink wrap). We sprayed the initials and glued them to the books and she went to work cutting. We found out that the saran wrap stuck when she tried to slide it on the saw table. So, we glued some paper to the back of the books. If I recall, I had her using a #7 FD-UR blade for the cutting and it took about five blades. They dull down pretty quickly when cutting paper and cardboard. But the work gave her the results she wanted.1 point

Scroll sawing a book
OCtoolguy reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
What type scrollsaw do you have. You are pushing the limits on alot of saws. Are you scrolling the cover only?? If so then you will need a spacer to accommodate the difference in height so you will be scrolling through 2" of material so the spacer should be something easily cut and no grain to it. Unless I am not understanding what you are doing.1 point -
Thanks, represents one of the biggest thrills of my life.... better than sex.... as I remember it.....?1 point

find a way to mount a solid steel rod and mount it up higher.. then put you some of those bigger tires from Harbor Freight.. so they are off the ground slightly.. then you can tilt the saw back like a dolly.. roll it where you want with ease..1 point

That is the model I have my planner mounted to... Maybe they are different now but the bottom of the legs are springy and my planner bounces all over the place.. which is okay for a planner.. but I wouldn't want my scroll saw on it.. Maybe mine was a defective one I don't know.. like I said.. works for my planner.. also could be I have the leg extensions all the way to the highest setting.. Maybe someone else will chime in on this.. I used the smaller model one for many of my other benchtop type tools.. drill press, belt/disc sander, grinder, chop saw etc etc.. I bought a bunch of them on a sale and a 25% coupon... think I have around 10 of them, LOL some still in the box, LOL.. Guess I went a little over board on them.. But I think with the deal I had they cost only about $12 EA.1 point

I've never made a rolling pin holder, but I would think they would be like a rifle rack that holds the rifles horizontally. Since rolling pins come in different lengths, might want to find out what lengths and diameters she is wanting to store. Be sure to let us see the results.1 point

There are some on here that have used the Harbor Freight stand.. They sell ( last I knew ) two different ones.. I had my EX-21 mounted to the smaller one for a short time.. The stand mounting footprint isn't big enough.. I mounted a piece of plywood to the stand then the saw to the plywood.. I have my planner mounted to their bigger stand and it's real bouncy.. don't think a scroll saw and the bigger stand would get along to well. My Excalibur vibrated pretty bad unless it was running real slow.. like around 1/2 speed on the dial or less.. anything above that was vibration.. but.. I did have the plywood mounted off center which could have caused that.. I ended up buying a stand made for the Excalibur.. been very good since mounting it to that.. The EX stand it built a little heavier than the Harbor Freight stands that I have..1 point
