  1. Very pleased with how these two came out. I don't know what the wood is but it's pretty. I haven't decided whether to back them with black fabric or a black painted wood backer. I do have some good looking grand kids though. Finished...Went with flat black wood backer and made stands from same wood portraits are from.

Having spent 25 years working in hard rock mines and being on Mine Rescue in northern Manitoba, when I saw this cut, I had to do it. Thanks to John Browner for his help in sourcing the pattern. 11 X 14 inches cut in more of my 5/16 reclaimed laminated maple. Jeff

    Prized Possession

Hope it's OK to post this here. This is one of my most prized possessions. It was made my uncle Charlie Knight Edmondson. I believe it is a Boy Scout. He was a paratrooper and was captured in France on June 6, 1944. He was executed the next day. Wish I could go back in time and watch him making it.

    Off to the Races!

We're going to Berea, KY next weekend for a craft show and I needed a race horse puzzle! So I went to the internet and found a royalty free illustration which I used in conjunction with Judy Peterson's horse puzzle (FOX Publications) and came up with this design. bb

  13. Holy molly, went to the site again and all of a sudden,,,,,, order confirmed!!! How did that happen?? I am so weak....I am a patternholic for sure.... Okay this is the last pattern I will buy in my life,,, I swear! If I get it built, I am giving it to my S-I-L's folks for having us visit at their house for the fly-in. The pattern is a small price to pay for a flight in a Stearman bi-plane...

  15. Hold on dearly to that piece of family history. I would write down as many details as you know about and maybe even get some family members to back up the story and place it with the piece so future generations will understand the sacrifice your uncle made.

    Still Chasing Planes

Still Chasing planes. Found a line drawing of a Lockheed Constellation ( not a super) built a lot of bridges (3D paint). A beautiful Queen of the Sky. Looking at a Boeing 377 Stratocruiser for my next project. Missed the age of luxury flying. Too many trips on a 737 middle seat, row 24 and the vent and recliner were broke and #24 for departure.

    The Queen

When @neptunposted this pattern in February, I knew I had to cut it. Was not sure of the wood to use and then a couple of weeks ago I was in our local Winner's store. There was a serving tray in the clearance area that had been damaged and was 30% off. Solid teak and cost me $20. BINGO!!!!!!! 12 3/4 X 16 inches. Not sure if a frame is needed or not, still undecided, what does everyone here think? Thanks for another great pattern Sasho. Jeff

    Clamps

A couple of years ago I bought a couple mini clamps from harbor freight., which is not worth a crap, yesterday I was at Home depot and bought a couple Dewalt 4" mini clamps, they must be new, so I will find out they are. I have a few Quick grip clamps and they work well, couldn't find any maybe they discontinued them and went with Dewalt. edward

What an awesome pattern, I love it. My deceased F. I. L's father was a coal miner in England, he would have loved this pattern. You did an excellent cutting job Jeff, definitely one to be proud of. Marg

  37. Pass along my respects to him, from a fellow Navy man. My Dad was Airforce, so I grew up catching MAC flights all over the place and found it rather odd that other kids in civilian schools had never had the pleasure of sitting for 9 hours on web seating or trying to sleep on top of the cargo pallets down the middle of the plane, nor watched a mid-ocean refueling of an F14. Having discovered a liking for military history, I'd LOVE to get a flight in a prop-driven warbird, whether it be a Stearman, Gooneybird, or (drool) Lightning.

  38. Day 2 update, came up 1 short of day 1 with 42 puzzles sold. Almost identical pattern as yesterday... strong start, then when the heat set in the crowd thinned. Tomorrow is "supposed" to be a little milder, we'll see. With it being the big holiday day, the crowd should be huge after the parade. I've set a high goal of 60 puzzles... but my problem right now is inventory, I've run out of a couple of popular dog breeds. "Do you have an Aussie?" "Sorry, I've sold out of those, how about a Coonhound instead?" Hmmmm, nope, that likely won't work. LOL

  39. My first born flew the F-14 Tomcat, and the F-18 Superhornet, plus many other planes, including a WWII bomber, but he has not ever flown in an open cockpit plane of any kind, let alone a Stearman.... he is jealous of me!

  47. Yes, on many saws it is easy to over tighten them. Also, you find with scroll sawing that blades don't last long. Unlike your table saw, if you are doing a lot of intricate cutting you will need to put in new blades every few hours or more often. If I'm working a couple hours a day, I will put in a new blade every day. Once you get the hang of it, you will find that you are following the line fairly easily, then pretty soon it will be difficult. Time for a new blade. They are an expendable item so keep a lot on hand.

  48. Thank you all for your advice, I have yet to break a blade but tend to bend the ends badly so when I swap holes it is harder or impossible to get the blade back in. I THOUGHT I was just snugging them down but seems I am over tightening them.
