    Name plate sign

Well I decided to knock this out this morning. I want to thank Wayne for doing the pattern and also the other pattern makers that also made name patterns for me to try. This one seemed to work the best because of so many letters. This is made out of Oak and I made it 12 inches long and about 2 inches high. I think he will like it.

    hope this helps someone

Over the last three years y'all have provided so much help, thank you. I finally feel like I may have done something that might help someone else. I have been putting mini-clocks in various cuttings, I am not always able to add the clock hole to the design due to the odd shape of the wood, so I made this template from 1/8 BB. It allows me to move it around on the piece and when I like it, I can mark the center for drilling. Inner diameter is 1 3/8 and the outer diameter is 1 7/16 (to show where the clock bezel would be. Attached is a pdf, and a two layer photoshop file EDIT Dang photoshop, the inner diameter is fine, the outer diameter is too large - I'm Working on it Sorry guys Jim EDIT EDIT ROFL, this getting old is hard on the memory What I did, since I did not want to try to cut a 1/16 inch wide circle (not sure my skill level is there yet), was to allow for a reveal outside the bevel of the clock face. The clock face bevel has a diameter of 1 7/16 inch, slightly less than half what is shown and the inner diameter is 1 3/8 I need a beer. sigh Jim mini-clock-hole.pdf mini-clock-hole.psd

    wood selection

Not being a cheapskate, I use primarily hardwoods. The thickness is dictated by the project. I like to use woods like Mahogany, Cherry, Maple, Walnut and exotic woods like Zebra wood, yelloheart Redheart and on and on. again, thickness is dictated by the projects. For ornaments, I’ll use 3/16”. For plaques and wall hanging I will us 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2” and even 3/4”. For stand up puzzles, I’ll use 3/4 - 1”. i have a full woodshop so I am able to mill my own wood blanks, but sometimes I will purchase thin woods from my local Woodcraft store.

Well I have 4 more motorcycles in the glue up stage. Then tomorrow I can put the clear coat on it. Racers are awfully anxious to get these. This is what I have been doing after work and on weekends when it isn't too hot in the garage. Jim

  29. There should be a hole on the accessory arm that runs along the side of the upper arm where the stem of the magnifier lights fit into.. At least that is how I have mine set up.. I didn't need the clamp bracket that came with my light.. I just stuck the stem down into that hole..

    wood selection

You have to be specific as to what you are making. I make alot of desk clocks and are 5/8" thick to accommodate the insert. I make shelves napkin holders, plaques all from 3/4" oak. I make mirrors from 3/4". I use all sizes and thickness depending on the project. No set dimensions.

    wood Thickness

It may seem that I've moved to the FUN zone permanently but I have never left my favourite hobby. I've been at scrolling for about 5 years and just been reminded about something I learnt way back and had obviously forgotten. I made the Fire Steamer for myself, took about 7 hours over 4 days, then with some spare time I did the Life Cycle in about 2 hours using some waste wood. I never took the wood thickness into account before starting. Lucky enough the steamer is BB in about 6mm, whilst the other one is BB in about 3mm. If it had been the other way I would not be a happy camper. I can twist and bend the second one very easily. With the steamer there were very many thin and weak islands, i ended up with only 1 breakthrough but it could have been so much worse. I dont know what to do with the life cycle but the steamer is mine. I still have to add in some embellishments to the pump and for that reason I bought myself a new Dremel 7750. This will supplement the generic rotary tool that I've had for 4 years. This information is purely boasting. I live alone so I never have to answer that question; 'What Do You Need ANOTHER Tool For'

  50. You might wish to look into this: Running rough from Kip Scrollin' with an Ex-21 http://tidewater-creations.com In recent months it has slowly but surely started running rough. Not really a vibration like before but seems to be in the upper arm. If I lift up on the arm the sound and vibration stop. I didn't realize how bad it had gotten until today when the speed control knob started clanging and I tightened set screw to fix it. Took note stock of the situation and realized how bad things are. An update...decided to wait till after the holidays to phone Ray @ Seyco as I was sure this was going to be a long process that involved taking the machine apart and tracking down various potential issues. Well of course I was wrong and it took all of 1 minute for Ray to diagnose...LOL Did have to modify a wrench but all is well My problem developed over time and it's best described as running rough with sounds and vibration getting much worse as speed is increased. At full speed the quick release lever would pop open. The repair was simple: remove cover from back of saw opposite motor and tighten screw in cut out area. If screw continues to turn you must apply a modified 8mmwrench to the back side and hold bolt. Tighten firmly. As shown you must add a "bend" in the wrench. You can heat it and bend it in a vise or take a hammer and beat the tar out of it. I fully recommend the later as it works great and is a stress reliever as well I have added pics in case this wasn't clear. DW
