Final Prep for Biggest Event of Year
Scrolling Steve and 3 others reacted to Iguanadon for a topic
One week from tomorrow I load up the PuzzleMobile and head to Cary, NC for the 42nd annual Lazy Daze event. Over 350 arts and crafts vendors gathered in one place. It's 9 hours long Saturday and 4 1/2 hours Sunday. This will be my second year doing it and I have set a goal of selling 200 puzzles. I sold 153 last year, but the first day I wasn't able to set up the way I prefer, but this year I rented 2 spaces in order to maximize sales. We'll see if it pans out. Of course, weather will be the biggest factor and so far, the 10 day forecast looks decent. We'll see if it holds true. I'm still cutting in preparation for it and I'll take a final inventory count in a few days to see exactly how many puzzles I'll be taking with me, but I know it'll be in the 500-600 range. Silly me, I signed up for another decent sized event the following Saturday... UGH! But I'm taking vacation from the day job the week in between so that I can replenish my stock based on what I sell at Lazy Daze. Fingers crossed for good weather. Iggy4 points -

Hi everyone. Just finished this a short while ago. I want to thank Wayne and Bob for doing two different patterns. I liked the writing on Wayne's and the butterfly on Bobs, so I combined parts of there pattern together. It's about 12 inches long. I have a question for you all. This is basswood and I haven't put a finish on it yet. Not sure what to finish it with. I was thinking on just dipping it in mineral oil. Any suggestions. I giving this to a teacher friend of mine who gave me the idea to do this. She had a picture of the saying on FB and I liked it. I have one more to do. The writing was really tough to do because of the letters being so close together. I did the best I could. P.S. Do you usually put a backing on something like this.4 points

Client from Amazon asked if I could make her a 66 Dart.. not sure how I did on it but it's all I could do.. I made a sloppy pattern myself but I suppose it was cuttable as this is what I came up with.. If I make it again there will be a couple of slight changes but over all I think it came out okay..3 points

I made this crayon holder for my friend's grandson. I found the pattern in a book of woodworking projects. The truck body and trailer are made from poplar wood. I bought the wheels from the local Hobby Lobby. I painted it with acrylic craft paint and finished it with a few coats of polyurethane. And yes, he's a big fan of dinosaurs.3 points -

Hey Iggy, i have good news for you then (or maybe not depending on how you look at it ) - if it only keeps you busy during "daylight hours" - you will get some relieve at some point since we have started having less and less daylight now that we are moving on towards Fall and Winter. So less work for you perhaps. (Either that, or less time to do the work in so making you even busier )2 points

Thank you for letting me join your community. I've never joined one before, but this one looks very friendly. My hubby and I have recently retired so I've decided to have a go at scrolling. I've done a few little things and have found it most enjoyable. I will never reach the dizzying heights of 'expert' but I'm enjoying the learning curve. My hubby has an enormous workshop and I've taken over a corner of it for my stuff. I'm looking forward to reading and learning from the vast experience on this forum With Kind Regards Brenda1 point

I'm not sure whether to thank you or to condemn you! Good news, the front of my map is completely sold for 2019 as of this morning! Only a few spaces remaining on the back and I have plenty of time to sign businesses for my Pleasure Island Guide. Selling out the front of the map was a big milestone in just a few days of selling.1 point

Awesome. I'll take another look at the Seyco. I think I'm about a month out from buying a saw, so I have time to read reviews and decide. Thanks all!1 point

I have a Seyco and an older Excalibur that I purchased use from Ray at Seyco. Have always been happy with both and the service I have gotten. Travis, if you reach out to Ray at Seyco, explain to him who you are in regards to running this forum, perhaps he could cut you a "deal". Like Paul, I do recommend anyone getting a Seyco watch Steve Good's video about putting it together and adding the thin washers to lift up the magnetic table top for better clearance as noted.1 point

Hi Brenda and welcome to the Village from across the pond here in the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains here in East Tennessee. It's nice to have you join us. Glad you found the saw and the village. Its a great place to hang out and learn from so many others who are willing to share. Like you, my hubby was the one with the workshop and he kindly shared a corner of it for my saws and sanders I use for Intarsia work. Great to have good hubbies isn't it. Look forward to your participation here in the Village and seeing what you are crafting.1 point

No, but here looks to be a good deal on a Hawk in my area.. You buy it, I could pick it up and deliver it to you next time I go to Portland.... In the mean time, I could try it out and keep it warm for you...... https://kpr.craigslist.org/tls/d/rbi-hawk-20-scroll-saw/6642687280.html1 point -
