  7. Some say to set ambitious goals, which I did, with a goal of selling 200 puzzles at my 2 day mega event. Last year I sold 93 the first day in 9 hours and 60 the second day in 4 1/2 hours for a total of 153. The first day last year I wasn't able to set up the way I like to and so this year I rented a double booth so I could maximize my setup and therefore my sales... or so I thought, but it turned out to not be as much of a factor as I expected. This weekend I sold 88 and 48 for a total of 136. Absolutely no complaints, still my best event of the year and a great event overall which I'll do every single year along with over 300 other vendors. Perfect weather, huge crowds and great folks to chat with and still going home with a pocketful of cash. In future years I'll continue to rent a double booth, I simply hate having to set up in such a way that people have to come "inside", generally speaking, people prefer to come up to the perimeter of my tent and see everything around 3 sides. Still in Raleigh today (Monday) as my wife is leaving her job of 20 years and they insisted on throwing her a luncheon today so we'll attend that and then head back to the coast. At which point I have to start cutting as I have a new 1 day big event coming up Saturday at a nearby beach town. Should be a great show as well. I did plan accordingly and am taking vacation this week from the day job to make lots of sawdust. And squeezing in a couple rounds of golf this week also. Photos showing booth and the 316 duplicate puzzles I had with me wrapped and ready to go. Only ran out of Elephants as I had a run on them that I didn't expect. Iggy

    Pattern by Mahendra

Just finished cutting this out and putting it all together thanks to Mahendra who did this pattern in record time. It's an 8 x 10 cut with 1/4 inch B/B. Hope she likes it. It was a rush job for this coming Sunday birthday party. Thanks again Mahendra for all the time you put into this.

    Camaro

A few weeks ago someone posted a Camaro. A pattern by Steve Good. I had downloaded the same pattern so I gave it a shot. 3/4" Poplar cut with #7 and #9 pegas blades. Stained with Minwax Gunstock penetrating stain. The base is MDF and does not stain well so it is temporary. I will cut a new one this week. I will spray with clear lacquer or poly.

  11. Well, I went into work this morning and guess what I found in the back of my truck? I swear, I don't know how it got there. But since it's there I might as well take it home don't you think. Motor Video Scroll Saw Video Model and Serial Number Video Well here is the story as I heard it: The story behind the saw is the mother in law bought it brand new in 1989 (she thinks) at the state fair, back when the manufacturers were still selling their goods at the fair. She had used it regularly up till about 10 years ago when her husband passed away and had to rearrange her life. Since then it has been sitting in the storage shed. It does run on all speeds and is nice and quiet. Came with the light and the foot peddle. I can tell the wedge in the back is worn so that might need to be replaced or reground at some point. I notice the upper are is different than the one on my saw. Not good or bad just different. I got it for $100.00.

  12. It has every thing rong with it and It would cost about$200 to fox it and I have had it for a little over 5 years so I decided to go with what my wallet would afford ane that is a Delta 40.694 It tood two days to get here and it has a 5 year warrante . I cut a dog puzzle ( Shepherd) with a # 3 blade it cut good we will have to wait and see what it is like in 5 yeaars. IKE

  13. Huh...strange. Sometimes I use Acetone to do the same thing. I think Acetone is much more dangerous than mineral spirits, though. Paint thinner is the same as mineral spirits. I think pretty much anything used to clean brushes used in oil-based paints would work. Goo-Off also does a good job. All of these, I'd test on some scrap first to make sure it doesn't stain or leave a residue.

  15. With me I give a show 3 strikes. Bad for 3 straight years it is off the list and onto something else. Shows run their course as do items we make. Sometimes it is a matter of changing hands of running it and it does not get the promotion it once did. Others it just a change because the committee does not do enough to add new vendors or change things up and it gets stale. When doing shows, vendors and promoters rely on each other for success.

  35. Cheapest one in my area right now is $180 and it's one of the real old ones with the 3 speed pulley system.. Other than that there is a 26 Ultra for like $800 and he has had in on there for more than 2 years.. was there when I was looking at my first Hawk.. I haven't seen many on craigslist this year for Hawks.. back when I grabbed up my first one there seemed to be several to choose from and most was $350 and up.. I guess I just got lucky to be the first one to see the ones I got and went and picked them up within an hour after they was listed..

    Candle protection

Decades ago there was a really nice family living in our small Iowa town. On the day of their daughters wedding, just before leaving for Church, one of the parents decided to go to the bathroom for a # 2. When finished, a candle was lit to get rid of the smell. As the family attended Church, their house was totaled by fire. To this day, I have more fear of an innocent looking little candle flame that I would have a momma bear protecting her cubs. jerry
