MCCAIN
Rob and 7 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
Honoring MCCAIN for his service to the State of Arizona and our nation. On the day of his funeral, I decide to cut a plaque of him. I think I could have picked a lighter board for this one, but I thought it would look nicer this way, but now... if I was to do it over, I would cut it on a lighter colored piece. John McCane 1936 to 2018. Thank you for your outstanding military service and your dedication to the citizens of America Dick heppnerguy8 points -

Butter knives, the pine knive was a gift from a family member who got it in Finland. I knew I could take that up a notch or two, I made two out of two different types of mahogany and finished them with salad bowl finish so they are food safe compliant. They work great! Thanks deb! I will make sure you get one8 points

I've done the pattern that you made for me and although I'm not happy with my work, the pattern is awesome. So would like to say "many, many thanks for your time and patience". This was done on my little Pin End saw and I've never done anything like this before, but I'm hoping to do it again on my 'new' saw once it's been set up for me.6 points -

I run across this on a laser CNC forum when someone asked about identifying a font.. someone replied with this place.. Just thought it could come in handy with the pattern makers.. Have no idea how well it works.. as I haven't tried it.. https://www.fontsquirrel.com/matcherator4 points

Grandsons numbers
John B and 2 others reacted to don in brooklin on for a topic
My Grandson is a hockey player. I made him a key rack last Christmas and I am not sure it got put up. On Wednesday we had him visit for the day and he cut his number out all by himself and painted. He then went home and had the key rack and numbers put up in his room. The number really added to the theme. ( I now have 3 more grandkids to do numbers)3 points -

I was busy sowing off my beautiful scroll saw artistry. Everyone was stunned at the beauty of it all. I was beaming as I realized I had just achieved status equal to Amazing Kevin. Then the darn cat woke me up. Dang it!2 points

G'day all, I noticed in the Q & A Forum there was a bit of discussion regarding pin chucks and holding 1/16th or smaller bits in your drill press. This is my method, A mate actually got me the chuck, however I have collected a few chucks (I always remove the chuck before chucking a US drill ) since and given them to blokes I know. Most 1/4" chucks will grip the small bits. I found a bolt that fitted in the threaded end of the chuck, cut the head of it and that is now the shank that goes into the drill press. A picture is worth a thousand words Cheers John2 points

ha ha, ya right, no painting tutorial needed paint the frame one color and take another color(s) dip an item like a screw, thin piece of wood, dowel, pipe cleaner etc it into paint and whip it in a downward motion at the 4 pieces prior to them being assembled and attached to the piece. my fav and my sons fav was a toronto blue jays piece I made him. if you want painting tutorials you need to hit up Crupiea, that is painting at its best.... I can barely splatter paint and trust me I have tried painting, not my skill set clearly...2 points -

My 226 has the line-loc blower hose but the older style clamp.. My old 220 I upgraded to the line loc and it made a world of difference.. then a year later my upper tension mechanism wore out and so I upgraded to the new BM style.. I personally like the older style better.. and personally wouldn't upgrade it unless it is worn out and needs it.. Not really much difference in using the two different styles.. just something about that BM style upper system i don't really care for.. as far as the way it's designed..1 point

Nice Iggy, After doing a dozen shows, I got sick of loading and unloading when I got home so I invested in a 4x6 enclosed trailer. That was the best $1500 I've ever spent and I paid it off in 2 month out of my craft fair revenues. After a show, I just park the trailer and its almost ready for next show. I never miss anything anymore because It stays in the trailer. everything fits in there with room to spare. This is my trailer1 point

selling my work
SCROLLSAW703 reacted to dgman for a topic
Well Ray, everyone is going to shoot you a formula of how to price. But for me, formulas don’t work. The way I price is, I look at it and ask myself, what would I pay for this if I wanted to buy it? I have been selling for a few year now and have found that customers don’t care that this piece is made from exotic woods and they don’t care how long it took to make it. They do know that it looks cool and they would like to buy it if it’s priced right. Now mind you, I don’t give it away. I sell my items for a good price, but affordable. I’m not going to get rich selling, but I certainly am not loosing money either. For the Deer scene I would price at $25-$35. The puppy and kittens portrait maybe $40 and the garage band portrait $25 unframed.1 point -

Over the last three years y'all have provided so much help, thank you. I finally feel like I may have done something that might help someone else. I have been putting mini-clocks in various cuttings, I am not always able to add the clock hole to the design due to the odd shape of the wood, so I made this template from 1/8 BB. It allows me to move it around on the piece and when I like it, I can mark the center for drilling. Inner diameter is 1 3/8 and the outer diameter is 1 7/16 (to show where the clock bezel would be. Attached is a pdf, and a two layer photoshop file EDIT Dang photoshop, the inner diameter is fine, the outer diameter is too large - I'm Working on it Sorry guys Jim EDIT EDIT ROFL, this getting old is hard on the memory What I did, since I did not want to try to cut a 1/16 inch wide circle (not sure my skill level is there yet), was to allow for a reveal outside the bevel of the clock face. The clock face bevel has a diameter of 1 7/16 inch, slightly less than half what is shown and the inner diameter is 1 3/8 I need a beer. sigh Jim mini-clock-hole.pdf mini-clock-hole.psd1 point
