    Shrunk bear

Finally got a time to finish this. It actually fit better before I glued it up. I shrunk down the original pattern to make a frig magnet. The glue up was tedious!

  2. Hi , I got my first scroll saw a couple of weeks back and thought its about time to stop practicing doing wiggly lines and try to make something I have Kathy Wise's book so tried to follow along with her beginners project and she said if its your first time use a soft wood to make it easier to do, so I bought a bit of Red Cedar, I hadnt seen Cedar before , I guess we dont grow it in the UK, but it cut and sanded easy and it smells great when its cut I know I have a lot to learn and you will see that in my picture but all in all I was quite pleased with my first atempt. Its had just one coat of varnish which I will rub down when its dry and give a couple more coats but here it is so far Remember its my first try so be gentle with me Don

    Two more to frame

Saw the owl posted by @neptun and had to cut it. 1/4" BB 9 X 10" cut completely with Sawbird 2/0 spiral (am getting used to these darn spiral things lol). The baby angel is a @Kenny Hopkins pattern, 7 X 13", three in 1/8" BB. Jeff

  4. the host asked me if i could do the blues borthers for him. i decided to give him a choice. these 3 are reverse . painted 2 black and one steel blue with accent colors . for this one i took one of these negatives and placed it on black poster board. i than put spray glue the cutouts and pushed then through the holes to glue them to the poster and them removed the negative. here is the result.

    Navy Plaque

My Grandson enlisted in the Navy about 4 months ago and is now in San Diego. His mother is coming to Arizona tomorrow and on Friday we are driving there to meet up with him. I decided last evening to cut him a plaque. I looked through several Navy Plaques and decided on this Steve Good pattern. I thought all the chain centers were going to take me a long time to cut but the whole item was less then three hours. That surprised my some, for sure Dick heppnerguy

  7. I like to cut Steve Good's patterns and I also support his page , year in and year out, as I do The Scroll Saw Village. I so appreciate all Travis and Steve do for our hobby. This was a quick and easy pattern to cut so I thought it would be fun just to cut it and add it to my shop wall. Dick heppnerguy

    New Scroll Saw

Well my Wife and I went to Ky to visit my Parents over the Labor Day wknd, and my kid Bro had a big surprise for me.A slightly used scroll saw!! It's a Porter Cable.I thought it was just like mine, but I found out it wasn't.It only has 2 speeds.Off and slow. But you can't look a gift horse in the mouth. My old one was running a bit ragged,so I am Happy to get a almost new one.I t will just take a bit longer to cut my plaques, which matches my speed as of late.lol.

    Another portrait

I was going through some pictures of our last trip to Las Vegas and found a picture of one of our company partners and his wife. We were having dinner at the Cosmopolitain. Great time.! 1/8" BBPW on 1/4" backer and lacqured. The cutting definitely goes faster than cleaning up the pattern. I always do the eyes first because if I screw them up, I might as well start again.

    Bike accessories.

I bought a new bicycle about 3 weeks ago now. My old one was a better quality bike; but, had never quite fit me right. So I was going to get a new one if I sold it. I did, so I did. This one had the things I wanted anyway, well, sort of. It had an ugly piece of metal hanging in the middle and a short platform on the front and the rear carrier was also just a platform that was also too short to be of any real use. The first thing I did was make a longer rear platform. I liked what it came out like and decided to make a front tray. I used decent sized screw eyes on the bottom to maake a tiedown spot. Then on one of the tool box excavations trips I found some screw eye bolts. Now the rear had to come off again to add them. hen this was completed, I read the comments of this project on Lumber Jocks and one had suggested a sign for the middle. Well T & E designs was given that project. It rolled around in my head for a while. Here is what came from that. Scroll saw was used somewhere on all 3 modifications too. The entire project was made from shop scrap. The wolves and moons are actually hickory flooring scraps. the rest just generic plywood that was lying around. The rear platform is an unknown, I think maple; but, certainly not sure. It was fun and I even kept the original pieces hanging in the shop, in case sometime someone wants to change it back. When I cut the wolves, I had a piece of plastic between the wood slabs to make a template at the same time.

    Thanks Bobscroll

Thanks goes to @bobscroll for this pattern. It's a friends birthday in a couple of weeks and I have been working with his wife to come up with a pattern of Man. United. First we thought their logo, thanks Mahendra for the pattern you made for me and then just before I was about to cut she saw the Aussie Rules patterns that I have been working on so decided this would be perfect. It measures a around 16 inches x 4 inches. Its cut from pine and hoop pine ply and cut with 2/0 and Mach 3 Olsen blades. Marg

    New Scroll Saw

Congrats on the new saw. I have just seen the Porter Cable saws advertised at Lowe's and want to look at one in person to see if I am interested in adding one to my small shop area. Ease of blade change and price are my main two criteria at the moment. God Bless! Spirithrose

  18. Usually what works for me in this situation is raising the price by 30% then offerng 25% off.. they think they're getting a deal... really amazing what goes through a shoppers head.. sometimes the price is too cheap so they see no value in it... other times you need to make them feel like they;re getting a great deal.... I toy around with prices and customers a lot.. I find that raising the price actually works better than one would really think, LOL...

  20. I'm getting back into scroll sawing and just discovered compound cutting and I'm hooked! I just made a bunch of 3D reindeer, thank you Charley for your awesome tutorial. I started to put eyes and noses on with a fine Sharpie and if I lingered too long they would bleed into the wood. I cut them out of white pine. Should I seal them first or should I use paint? Any suggestions?

  21. Thanks, now I admire your work even more. You had to do some real experimenting and practice to figure this all out. This is really awesome stuff.

  23. Yes dipping in sanding sealer will help a lot. You can also use spray poly or lacquer.

  24. I don't wear hearing protection on the scroll saw. I do with my planer and some other big tools. If your glasses are fogging up then your dust mask is not fitting properly.

  31. I have been trying to get a bunch of projects done outside, so I haven't had much time at the saw lately. There was on and off rain all day yesterday so I decided to cut a quick project. Steve Good pattern, walnut with a pine base. Cut with F/D #5 skip reverse. Finished with spray lacquer.

I've had a cheap one for years. Still sits in the original box, unopened, waiting to that "someday". I think it is destined for a yard sale.... You need talent I do not possess to use one.

    MCCAIN

Honoring MCCAIN for his service to the State of Arizona and our nation. On the day of his funeral, I decide to cut a plaque of him. I think I could have picked a lighter board for this one, but I thought it would look nicer this way, but now... if I was to do it over, I would cut it on a lighter colored piece. John McCane 1936 to 2018. Thank you for your outstanding military service and your dedication to the citizens of America Dick heppnerguy

    selling my work

Well Ray, everyone is going to shoot you a formula of how to price. But for me, formulas don’t work. The way I price is, I look at it and ask myself, what would I pay for this if I wanted to buy it? I have been selling for a few year now and have found that customers don’t care that this piece is made from exotic woods and they don’t care how long it took to make it. They do know that it looks cool and they would like to buy it if it’s priced right. Now mind you, I don’t give it away. I sell my items for a good price, but affordable. I’m not going to get rich selling, but I certainly am not loosing money either. For the Deer scene I would price at $25-$35. The puppy and kittens portrait maybe $40 and the garage band portrait $25 unframed.
