The closest I do to TV is Netflix. I have not sat and watched a TV program on TV for many years. But not important, what is important, if your wife wants to paint, give her all the encouragement you can. WOW. I would love to have talent to paint. Only problem with painting, she can get into it fairly cheaply.... Now quilting costs a bunch.. My wife's two sewing machines cost more than all the tool I own. What more could you ask for. I can buy what I want for scrolling and she dare not say a thing... coarse she has more money than I dooooooo! Life is not really fair is it? It's that whats hers is hers, whats mine is hers.. I pay for most the house hold expenses,,, and what pennies left over can go to my scrolling. She pays for,,,,,, her quilting. Oh my, if she ever see this thread, I am DEAD MEAT!!!!!

    First Price in 3D

I won first and third price in the 3 D category for my Shakespeare and Madonna & Child pieces at the Juried Art Show in my town. I would be lying if I said I am not proud. Unfortunately the background of Shakespeare wasn't happy with the humidity.

    Patterns

This morning as I'm sitting around convalescing from falling off a ladder I had set up in my little dump trailer (that dumped when it should not have) so I could trim some tall shrubs.... I know stupid is as stupid does... I started looking through the Village Pattern Library. Just for something to do, not looking for anything in particular. I have got to say, there are hundreds of great patterns in there. If you like to do fretwork pictures,,,, do not over look the pattern library. From simple to very detailed,, they are there. I really didn't get very far, it would take hours to go through all of the patterns. And, I who will never have time to do all the patterns I already have (I will not say it out loud, but I have more scroll saw patterns than my wife has quilt pattern!!). But I found several that I just had to down load and I just know I will do them someday. There had better be scroll saws in Heaven,,,, ya, I'll see you there, I plan on going to Heaven, and I will finish all my patterns..... Just saying there are great pattern there, and I know I forget to look... There where/are some very talented, generous, pattern maker residing in The Village. I really appreciate them.

    67´ Mustang GT500

Hello everyone again!! This time I bring you a very special cut for me: this beautiful 67´ Mustang GT500. As soon as I saw the design uploaded by @blights69 (so thanks for sharing it), I knew I have to do it, so there is the result It´s made from 5mm plywood, and with a frame made from pine, with a black back. I only made one change: the word "muscle" for "Mustang" and his horse. I left the natural colour of the wood, and really like the contrast. I hope you like it too, cause this one was very emotional to me.

    Hair Stylist Clock

I made this for my niece Becky: The pattern is by Steve Good and I purchased the clockworks from Bear Woods. This is my first clock and I found it VERY EASY to install. The background was cut from 12mm thick Cherry and the scissor-comb overlay was cut from 6mm thick Baltic birch plywood.

  8. I've had a 68 fastback clock for a while now.. and have been wanting to add the coupe one day but never could find a great pattern to make one.. while I don't hate this pattern I found.. but I don't really love it either..especially don't like where there is no lines where the door would be and the tire / wheel area needs something as now they kind of flow into the body.. anyway here is a new one for my website..

    Flags

I did this for part of the background I did on two of my pieces. I picked out the flags I wanted to us from image search on the internet. I printed them on plain printer paper, than sprayed them with some Krylon clear coat. When I got them cut as I needed to show where I wanted them to I us spray adhesive and attached them to the backer where they needed to be.

    Chess anyone?

A few months ago our local Windsor Plywood did a custom job out of two inch aromatic cedar. The scraps ended up in the bargain bin for $3.00/lb, too good a deal to pass up. Played chess when I was younger and had always liked the pattern for chess pieces that Sue Mey has. So decided to give it a whirl. Got some cut and showed them to a friend and he ordered a set out of walnut and aspen. Finished his and then did my light players out of some more of my scrap material (really nice grain soft wood). The first pic is of Kings and Queens of each kind of wood. Walnut on the left, then aspen, aromatic red cedar and then the mystery wood. The second pic is of my friend's set with a display case I threw together for his birthday this month. Third pic is of some the cedar pieces to show the colouring I love. Jeff

    Modern Minuteman

Finally complete! This one took a while to cut because of all of the turns and nooks and crannies, plus having to watch out for some tenuous connections to various islands. I used 1/8 BB ply, double-stacked and taped. Only had two little pieces that had to be re-glued, the barrel shroud and the details of the magazine below his right hand. In retrospect, there was a spot at the end of the barrel shroud that could've been bridged to give it an anchor on both ends. Hindsight being 20/20 and all that. Otherwise, I'm VERY happy with how this turned out! Per my discussion with Joonho Kim (http://tacticaldrawings.com/), I'm not posting a complete picture to discourage anyone from running across the photo and making their own template to cut and sell (images are different sizes and slightly different angles to discourage the same). So this one is going to hang on the wall in my house....the second one, I'm heading to the Post Office and sending to Mr. Kim this morning in thanks for letting me use his art. I discovered a problem in the text when I drilled the first pilot hole for my pin-ended blades....again, in hindsight, I should've gone back and reprinted the text using a larger font, that would've helped the holes blend better. Lesson learned: make sure your pattern has a wide enough spot for pilot holes, if you can't afford a fancy-schmancy new scroll saw. Frame was made out of a piece of 1x2 Poplar, stained Walnut. Backing is something cheap and thin from Lowes, also Walnut. Minuteman was finished with BLO.

Half the times When I looked through the pattern library ( which I agree is a great resource) I find too many I like I keep looking, get overwhelmed, I can make a decision before I know it I wasted most of my shop time. End up not cutting anything and not even settling on anything. I got problems. not sure if looking through the pattern library while standing on a ladder will help me. Maybe I’ll give it a shot.

It always the case a good deal comes along after you spend money. I am sure the wood you got this weekend at the Expo is good stuff. Sometimes the wood that been in storage is not the best there maybe some great pieces but also some duds. I spent too much at the expo as well. I got Baltic birch plywood, exotic wood and some accessories for my shop.

  26. I have quickly become a fan of one of our newest SSV family, Jason Henry of Washington State. As many of you have discovered, Jason makes some really great and exciting patterns and I just had to try one of them. So after a couple of days in my shop, I knocked this one out. I am going to attempt to make a frame for it. It is a little larger then I usually cut and there was a lot of detail in the pattern. In fact so much that I sort of got lost as to what a couple of parts were all about. I did modify it a little, as a result. It was a challenging piece to cut but I like the way it came out. I used a 3/0 spiral blade to cut in and I only broke one small piece at the beginning. I hope to cut more of his patterns before too long. I hope you all enjoy this pattern as much as I enjoyed cutting it Dick heppnerguy

  30. Kevin, if you look at the pics I posted, I put the saw near to me so as to put more of the weight on the rear legs. It sits resting on the two wheels away from me and there is zero vibration. I am very happy with the way it turned out. The key is to get it level or even on all four contact points. The H/F wheels that I used have rubber tires on them and seem to be pretty decent wheels.

  32. You need to mount some bigger wheels ( like smaller lawn mower wheels) up higher on the stand.. so when the stand setting on the ground for doing work the tires would be just off the ground.. but to move the saw tilt it back so the tires will roll.. I wouldn't suggest any scroll saw to be resting on wheels all the time.. that is asking for vibration issues.. I've thought about buying one of these for my Hawks.. and maybe the other saws.. I bought one for my big band saw when I purchased it... sure glad I did as that thing is very heavy..I'd never be able to move it without scratching the floor sealer all up in my shop.. http://www.grizzly.com/products/Heavy-Duty-Mobile-Base/D2057A Harbor freight has a cheaper build your own kit.. https://www.harborfreight.com/300-lb-capacity-mobile-base-95288.html Not real sure how well one would do on a scroll saw because I can't remember if all four corners have the feet or not.. I thought my bandsaw one has the legs on all four.. but this picture shows it looks like it'd set on two of the wheels while it raises the other two off the ground.. Anyway.. Something with some threaded legs to adjust to get the wheels off the ground and have the saw / stand setting firmly on the ground would be what I would try to achieve on any saw stand homemade or factory.. if I needed to have wheels to move it around.. Edit to say: My older Hawk came with wheels on the stand.. I thought it would be a real nice addition to be able to roll it around.. I could never get it to set firmly on the floor and not get added vibration.. took them off and bought some adjustable furniture gliders and got all four feet planted firm on the ground.. runs nice and smooth after that..

Terry fell off a ladder and broke his ankle badly, surgery and 12 weeks off work, now he stays away from them. Terry is a carpenter, so I guess I am the lucky one, no quilters in this house. I have not really looked in the pattern library for a long time. I only go there when I am looking for a specific pattern, maybe one day when I have nothing else to do I will take another look. Marg

  45. All of my saws are on factory stands.. When I first got my Ex-21 I mounted it on a cheap Harbor Freight stand.. the stand was their smaller one.. and was actually too small for the saw's foot print.. so I mounted a 1" plywood to the stand and then mounted the saw to the plywood.. This was good and bad.. the good... cheap... the plywood extended out and my legs fit under it.. the plywood caught the sawdust that normally drops down on your lap.. The Bad... the saw vibrated quite bad... bad enough that I bought a actual EX stand to mount it too.. That was much sturdier than the cheap HF stand was..heavier too which i'm sure helped with the vibration etc.. My most favored stand is from the deWalt.. that is a sturdy stand with three legs.. and narrow enough to straddle and the bottom brace is a perfect spot for the foot switch while sitting on the stool.. I wish Excalibur and Hawk could take notes on the DeWalt and Hegner stands.. The Ex and Hawk stands left me trying to figure out where to put my feet and my foot switch etc etc.. I finally got used to them.. but DeWalt spoiled me with their stand. All this said.. I think a nice HEAVY homemade stand would work out pretty well.. if you have a nice level floor to put it.. I would build in some sort of adjustable feet on the legs of a home ade stand so you can get even weight distribution on all legs.. this would help in any slight floor variances and or if you cut one just so slightly off from the others.. it would balance it out.. Most saws I've bought used.. vibrated bad when I first brought them home.. Once I loosen the stand and planted all legs firmly onto my floor.. they per like a kitten then.. So... having a very lever stand is quite important whether it be homemade or factory made.. I think a person can achieve the same results as a factory stand but they might spend some time toying around with getting everything perfect.. I'm not much of a builder.. and probably couldn't build a square box if I tried.. I could fab one out of metal and weld it together.. but for some reason I cannot buld anything out of wood.. other than clocks and scroll sawn stuff LOL so i opted to just buy a stand and not fuss with trying to get 3 or 4 legs cut the exact same length etc.. LOL Good luck with whatever you choose.. and share some picture of your stand if you make one..

  46. I built my own stand. It stays in one place so I don't worry about wheels. In the event I do have to move it out I just pick the whole thing up and move it. Kind of hoping Kevin will chime in on this He has his on a factory stand.

  48. I use the cheap acrylic little bottles from WallyWorld. They are not thin. I have to thin them with tap water to use. They have worked just fine for me. If thinned enough they work in an airbrush. I would probably only use it in a simple single action airbrush.
