  1. My grandson was bored and he was with me in the garage so I had him use the scroll saw and he loves it. I might have s future scroll saw artist if he stays interested.

  2. Just had to share. I actually made my first ever pattern. My undying thanks to Travis and his video, which I must have watched a hundred times. Watching the video on one tab and having Inkscape on the other tab, Travis talked me through it stage by stage. I'm really quite proud of myself

    REMEMBER 9/11

I do hope we all take a few minutes and remember 9/11 this Tues. It had an effect on all of us and I am sure it was one of those events we all remember where we were on that crystal clear blue sky day. The aftermath is something we are still paying the price for. Wrote a chapter in the history books that I hope never happens again but it is a reminder of how fragile we all are.

    Hair Stylist Clock

I made this for my niece Becky: The pattern is by Steve Good and I purchased the clockworks from Bear Woods. This is my first clock and I found it VERY EASY to install. The background was cut from 12mm thick Cherry and the scissor-comb overlay was cut from 6mm thick Baltic birch plywood.

    Chess anyone?

A few months ago our local Windsor Plywood did a custom job out of two inch aromatic cedar. The scraps ended up in the bargain bin for $3.00/lb, too good a deal to pass up. Played chess when I was younger and had always liked the pattern for chess pieces that Sue Mey has. So decided to give it a whirl. Got some cut and showed them to a friend and he ordered a set out of walnut and aspen. Finished his and then did my light players out of some more of my scrap material (really nice grain soft wood). The first pic is of Kings and Queens of each kind of wood. Walnut on the left, then aspen, aromatic red cedar and then the mystery wood. The second pic is of my friend's set with a display case I threw together for his birthday this month. Third pic is of some the cedar pieces to show the colouring I love. Jeff

    67´ Mustang GT500

Hello everyone again!! This time I bring you a very special cut for me: this beautiful 67´ Mustang GT500. As soon as I saw the design uploaded by @blights69 (so thanks for sharing it), I knew I have to do it, so there is the result It´s made from 5mm plywood, and with a frame made from pine, with a black back. I only made one change: the word "muscle" for "Mustang" and his horse. I left the natural colour of the wood, and really like the contrast. I hope you like it too, cause this one was very emotional to me.

  12. I've had a 68 fastback clock for a while now.. and have been wanting to add the coupe one day but never could find a great pattern to make one.. while I don't hate this pattern I found.. but I don't really love it either..especially don't like where there is no lines where the door would be and the tire / wheel area needs something as now they kind of flow into the body.. anyway here is a new one for my website..

  16. Well Ray is probably the best option.. just thinking though.. if it is a potentiometer and you are able to solder the two wires on.. the part for my Hawk was a whopping $4 with free shipping off ebay..LOL... Hawk wanted to sell me the whole switch assembly for about $150 ... I know... not the same saw.. but those potentiometers are pretty universal.. I think.. and you can't really wire them wrong.. if it's wired backwards.. the switch just works backwards.. High is low and low is high, LOL.. Don't ask how I know that.. LOL

  17. I'm not too up on electronics and motors etc.. but thought maybe you should check the motor brushes... I'm pretty sure these do not have the normal potentiometer like my Hawk has.. I think it's probably had the micro chip deal and the little circuit board.. to control the speed.. This is doing about the same thing as my jointer is doing and in my case it's the circuit board.. and of coarse no longer available from Delta... that said I crossed the part number and found that the Porter Cable took the same one and is still available through them.. just not sure $150 would be better spent for a upgraded jointer for me in my case.. Anyhow, I hope yours is just some brushes or maybe more simple like dust getting into the thing.. Sorry I have no solid advice.. but do check the motor brushes first..

  18. Tom I had this issue with a different brand of saw. I had to replace the speed control. Your best bet would be to contact Ray at Seyco. His phone number is 1-800-462-3353. He can direct you in the right direction and knows these saws inside out. Great guy to deal with too.

    Older Hegner Upgrade?

Kevin I converted a old 16" Craftsman rear tensioner using a piece of 1/4" steel rod and a cam lever from a bicycle seat clamp. It works very well. I believe allot of rear tension scroll saws could be made more user friendly using this concept. The only drawback would be the size of the saw and the length of the users arms. It works quite well for me on my 16" Craftsman backup saw.

  20. Yes , I have it on my Hegner and it works fine for me. Reaching back there does not bother me but I do not do fret work.

I think bad batches in blades are common and not manufacturer specific, here in the UK a while ago a lot folks were complaining about FD blades breaking.

  26. So.. I ended up getting the pyrography set from the estate I had talked about the other day... $35 was worth it to me to try.. the cheap soldering iron type ones run about that much.. and this is a pro set.. Doing some research on what exactly I got turns out the company closed up.. not sure when.. But at any rate I found in the bottom of the tools plastic case.. the original receipt from 1989.. so it's older than I though.. It's a Detail Master lll I didn't take a photo of it yet but while researching came across the same thing on ebay so i'll show that one.. I got at least 6-8 pens with it.. had to go play around and found that the thing has heat at the tip about as soon as it comes on.. unlike my old soldering iron style.. Anyway.. happy camper with it... much easier to control etc.. I also found that there are adapter cables to use other brand pens with.. so even though they are no longer in business.. I can still get new pens etc.. Always wanted to try the professional burning tools but too expensive to buy just to try them.. until now .. Oh.. I did make a $50 offer on the Hegner they have.. probably won't know for a few days on that one..don't care either way on that.. since it's such a small one and not really what I'd want in a saw anyway.. if it doesn't sell in the sale they did say I'd end up with it anyway.. same with all the wood they have. we'll see. https://www.ebay.com/itm/DETAIL-MASTER-III-MODEL-8124-C-TESTED-WORKS/292321905477?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

  28. Ever watch American Pickers (I think that is the name) where the guys go buy antiques and oddities to resale....? They "bundle" to get a good deal. Maybe you could offer to buy the Hegner and the Razertip together for like $65 as a "bundle".

    Help needed.

Is that insert metal or plastic? Is the table rusted... Maybe a picture would help some. Spray it withe some lubricant might help loosen it up. Check Youtube, when I have a problem with a piece of equipment I go to Youtube first...

It happens to us all. In fact just the other day I had a #5 blade break. Now I have been cutting for a very long time and it has been quite awhile since I had a blade snap that I did not expect. It did make me jump because I forgot what that sounded like. It startles you for sure but we all know just move on. The thing that is a little disturbing is I have been using FD blades for almost my entire scrolling career and always bought them from Mike Moorloch. Being he is no longer with us I bought my recent blades from I believe it was the teddy bear. There seems to be something different even though they claim to be the same blades. They do not stay as sharp as long any more and seem to have a burr on back edge. I will use these and check other packages before I buy again. I maybe changing blades for the first time in a very long time.

  38. You need to mount some bigger wheels ( like smaller lawn mower wheels) up higher on the stand.. so when the stand setting on the ground for doing work the tires would be just off the ground.. but to move the saw tilt it back so the tires will roll.. I wouldn't suggest any scroll saw to be resting on wheels all the time.. that is asking for vibration issues.. I've thought about buying one of these for my Hawks.. and maybe the other saws.. I bought one for my big band saw when I purchased it... sure glad I did as that thing is very heavy..I'd never be able to move it without scratching the floor sealer all up in my shop.. http://www.grizzly.com/products/Heavy-Duty-Mobile-Base/D2057A Harbor freight has a cheaper build your own kit.. https://www.harborfreight.com/300-lb-capacity-mobile-base-95288.html Not real sure how well one would do on a scroll saw because I can't remember if all four corners have the feet or not.. I thought my bandsaw one has the legs on all four.. but this picture shows it looks like it'd set on two of the wheels while it raises the other two off the ground.. Anyway.. Something with some threaded legs to adjust to get the wheels off the ground and have the saw / stand setting firmly on the ground would be what I would try to achieve on any saw stand homemade or factory.. if I needed to have wheels to move it around.. Edit to say: My older Hawk came with wheels on the stand.. I thought it would be a real nice addition to be able to roll it around.. I could never get it to set firmly on the floor and not get added vibration.. took them off and bought some adjustable furniture gliders and got all four feet planted firm on the ground.. runs nice and smooth after that..
