Just completed this "Fall" sign....made from rough cut 1x6's I created, painted a aged look.....letters are 1/4" ply....leaves are from a fall decoration bought at Hobby Lobby.....1" tacks were used for the "Bolt" look.....4ft tall...I'm picturing a fall mum & pumpkin at the base to complete it fully....comments as always...ty

    Had a try at 3D

Hi , Being new to scroll saw I'm trying the different types of scrolling to see what I like Well I have had me a try at intarsia and I liked that so now I thought I would give a 3D / compound cutting a try . I didnt think it would be very succesfull so only used a bit of 2x2 softwood from the diy shop , Didnt see the point in wasting expensive wood , but I was suprised , it came out not too bad so I will have to have another try using a nice hard wood Don

  11. In a previous post http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/30725-christmas-is-comin/ the question was asked if any non religious layered patterns out there. I designed one myself and posted the pattern I now have it cut and painted. On the suggestion of Frank Pellow I added a 1/4" spacer one ahead of the back and a 1/8 rim on front. Will make some changes now the prototype is done.

    Burma Shave

Not totally a scroll project, but some here are likely to know. I want to cut letters and make a set of red and white lettered signs like the old roadside burma shave signs. (for those who don't remember, there would be a series of 4 or 5 signs with a humorous poem followed by the sign "Burma Shave" For instance, "Don't pass on" " a curve or hill," " if the cops don't get you" " the mortician will" followed by a sign that said "Burma Shave") Any body recall the sign dimensions or font? IIRC the signs were about 6 inches high and two feet to thirty inches wide. I want to make a scroll saw set that at least resembles the originals. I can look up the signs on line, but there is no scale to judge the size. Thanks

  13. Just finished up this LED lighted Bears sign, cut the "C" on the scroll saw in 2 parts out of a 1x8....made templates for repeatability....attached together with pockets hole screws/glue......the "C" has 3/4" spacers to give it space between the back & the "C"....Blue LED lights wired to back of "C" reflecting off the white back with blue pin strips.....23" W X 21.5"T......looks great w/o lights, but the blue LED's brings it to life....the blue gets bolder the darker it gets...….runs on 110v....was fun to make.....comments as always....thank you

  14. Had some pieces of scrap Wenge that was always in my way, so I decided to glue it together with cherry and cut a bowl. It did turn out not too bad, a little bit out of line because after I applied the pressure it moved a little bit well nobody I saw perfect. LOL

  15. @TerryC I experienced something similar. I bought mine from HD too. It came in and a lot of the bolts and nuts where strewn about the box. I found them all, so it wasn't a big deal. The finish on the table was similar to yours, but mine was on the side a little further up. I'll scratch it up eventually, so I didn't mind as much. My blade also wasn't centered in the hole. I'll try adjusting it this weekend. I do notice, that the motor slows once it hits wood, even if it's only 1/4" BB ply. Maybe this is normal, I just have to compensate my speed for the slow down. My craftsman didn't do that, so I thought it was a bit strange. I haven't had much time to play with it. I did notice that the blade was really aggressive. The rocking motion from front to back was quite a bit. So I loosened the bolts on the motor and rotated it as far forward (I think) and tested it. It was still too aggressive for my taste, so I moved the bolts to the next hole, then rotated the motor again. Now I like where it's at. Much easier to control. Here's a link to explain it a bit better: http://www.sheilalandrydesigns.com/articles/excalibur-tuning So far, I think I'm happy with it. It's going to take some getting used to, as it is different from my old saw. I need to catch my rhythm on changing blades. LOL. I might buy the Pegas blade holders, though.

    Newbie from TN

Just another old retired fart who now has the space and time to get back into wood working. Always liked doing scroll work but have not done any since high school. Thought I would go big or go home so just ordered a Excalibur EX-21 scroll saw with foot switch. Am sure this saw will meet my needs for a long time.

    Fretwork Box

Having a lot of fun making boxes lately. The pattern for this one comes from Craftsmanspace The fretwork is plywood, backed with purple card and 3mm MDF. The same card is used to line the box interior. 24 x 21 x 9cm or 10 x 8 x 3.5 inches approx made from an old drawer box. Thanks for looking. Rob

  21. Mine is floppy. Thought of tightening the bolt but figured it is working so why mess with it. Block of wood works more that fine for my needs. I dont need to block it that often. I have my saw sort f at eye level so its easy for me to see the holes under the wood. My chin is the same height as the top of the saw so somewhat eye level.

  22. Just had to share. I actually made my first ever pattern. My undying thanks to Travis and his video, which I must have watched a hundred times. Watching the video on one tab and having Inkscape on the other tab, Travis talked me through it stage by stage. I'm really quite proud of myself

Yep, you are quite right, luckily, although I'd printed it off and stuck it to wood, I hadn't started cutting, so went back to the video LOL. I'll try the 'colour' tip next time I have half a week to make a pattern Although I'm hoping that I'll get quicker as time passes.

    67´ Mustang GT500

Hello everyone again!! This time I bring you a very special cut for me: this beautiful 67´ Mustang GT500. As soon as I saw the design uploaded by @blights69 (so thanks for sharing it), I knew I have to do it, so there is the result It´s made from 5mm plywood, and with a frame made from pine, with a black back. I only made one change: the word "muscle" for "Mustang" and his horse. I left the natural colour of the wood, and really like the contrast. I hope you like it too, cause this one was very emotional to me.

  32. Hi , I got my first scroll saw a couple of weeks back and thought its about time to stop practicing doing wiggly lines and try to make something I have Kathy Wise's book so tried to follow along with her beginners project and she said if its your first time use a soft wood to make it easier to do, so I bought a bit of Red Cedar, I hadnt seen Cedar before , I guess we dont grow it in the UK, but it cut and sanded easy and it smells great when its cut I know I have a lot to learn and you will see that in my picture but all in all I was quite pleased with my first atempt. Its had just one coat of varnish which I will rub down when its dry and give a couple more coats but here it is so far Remember its my first try so be gentle with me Don

  34. Also if you are doing a special project and grain is important, you have better chance getting what you want out of a 5' x 5' piece... And you can buy a "wood welder" You get them through Woodrite. Seriously search wood welder and check it out. Coarse they do not weld wood,,,,

  36. I'd be keeping an eye on the area over the next several hours of use.. might wear out the case where that bolt is.. I know several years ago someone posted on one of the message boards about this.. then posted again about a year or so later with a broken case.. a block of wood or something is much cheaper than a new case or saw.. If you've seen the Jim Dandy easy lift attachment and have some mechanical skills.. you could build one yourself for probably $5-10.. while $25 ish isn't bad for just a bolt on one and be done with it for several years.. I've had one on my saw for about 10 years now and wouldn't be without one on a DeWalt..

  39. You are correct I missed that. Alex Fox has/had this jeep as a free pattern. I did it with my Grandson. I could not find any of his free patterns at his Etsy site but you could message him and ask him if it is still available. It was an easy cut and you watch his video to put it together.

    Roaring Lion

I haven't been out in the shop much lately as I was having to do a bunch of house fixer ups after getting my house redone with vinyl siding. Suddenly everything around your house looks old and needs to be updated. But I needed to do something for the NC State Fair this October so I cut this out. I still need to make the frame but the cuts are done on this Charles Dearing pattern. The color in the back is not what it will be. Still deciding if I'll use black as usual or something else. This was cut from a 1/4" thick piece of cherry. It is 15 1/2" x 13 1/4" I will be building the frame from some yellowheart I have. Pattern is available here: https://www.bearwood.com/Stunning-Lion-Portrait.html
