  2. Yesterday when I posted the pug and the Elvis cutting, I said I would not re-post them when I got them done, but, I came up with the idea of how to make a 'make believe frame' and added a few simple cutouts to it. I liked how it came out and thought it might be helpful or at least interesting to others to make their cutting just a little more appealing to the eye. so here is the results... I know it is nothing special but I think it is a simple solutions for some of the beginner scrollers, if nothing else. Dick heppnerguy

  5. So just playing around in the shop and decided to try doing some inlay. I messed up though as I did several test cuttings to get the correct angle. Got real close and thought just a half degree would be about perfect. Problem was I moved it the wrong direction . Anyway it was a fun quick project and I can probably sand it down on the belt sander to get it matched up. This is about 1/16 inch off. Gotta say the tilting head on the Excalibur is a nice feature. This really isn’t my first inlay but I’ve only done a couple other pieces about 13 years ago on a crap saw so it wasn’t as enjoyable. Lol

    Granddaughter to wed

One of my granddaughters is getting married in November. In fact she is tying the knot the day before my wife and I celebrate our 57th anniversary. I have made several wedding plagues, using a couple of really nice patterns of Sue Mey's but this time I decided to make them something never seen before so I designed one especially for them. I have it cut and the only thing I am going to add to it is a small red heart between their names at the bottom of the plaque. Me wife really likes it so I sure hope it will be on the newly weds walls long after I have left this life as a memory of my wife and I. Oh, and I get to give her away at the wedding too. I am so excited about that honor. Hope you all like it also. sorry about the poor lighting in the photo. Dick heppnerguy

    Thanks Joleet

Thanks Ron for this pattern, my customer loved it. It measures 8.5" x 11.5", it's cut from bamboo and is 2.5mm thick. I used a 2/0 Olsen reverse tooth blade. Marg

    This is for Kevin

He always wanted to see the wood prior to cutting my 3D bird houses, well here it is. I used pieces of scrap and glue them together to get the proper dimensions either 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" square, next glue the pattern to the wood, drill 1/8" hole for the perch, 1/2" Forster bit for the entry to the house. Now we move to cutting I start with the face of the bird house and then re tape it together and cut the other side of the pattern. Take it apart and you have the end products.

  16. I just run across this video.. I know many of you all use a dremel with a router attachment for drilling entry holes.. If you don't already have one this looks like it could be made fairly cheap and looks like it could be very useful..

  17. If I understand what ur problem is? Once you change scan to bitmap you can erase anything you don’t want hence isolating what you do. Use the eraser tool. But you have to trace image to bitmap or it will not allow you to erase. or tape white paper over the image you don’t want to scan. Before you scan it. I use the eraser method.

  18. For those of you who have loose pages from books, this may help. I sometimes need to remove a page from a book to avoid distortion while copying or scanning. In order to keep the book together, I have separated the pages from the spine and placed each page in a page protector. Then the book can be saved in a 3 ring binder for future use without losing any of its integrity or any information.

  19. Ray I scan them then I import them to Inkscape. Once in Inkscape I trace to bitmap then duplicate so you have two bitmap images now then you can do pretty much anything to that image.

    Pretty Nice Setup

I think he might have stayed with the hobby longer if he had a much better quality of scroll saw and moved the vacuum hose to each tool as he needed it rather than trying to split the small vacuum's capability by trying to collect from all of the tools at once. It also looks like he is trying to get nearly full price for all of the tools and the bench. It will likely be a long while before he finds someone willing to pay that much for what he has. Charley

Next thing I want to try is Intarsia.. never done any of that.. so I may try a small something next week.. just to try it and say I done that at least once, LOL

  42. I received my Diablo 50 tooth blade yesterday and mounted it today. Very smooth cutting. I did some cross cutting as well as ripping a board. I think my original Kobalt blade would have been fine except... When I bought the saw a couple of years ago I removed the riving knife. It was the weak part of the saw, made kind of poor. Then I started up the saw and heard a nasty noise. Turned off the saw and turned it on again and it ran smooth with no noise. Today when I changed blades I discovered a thick 2X2" piece of steel. It had been pretty badly scored by the blade. I think it must have been part of the riving device. I think that is why the original blade did not cut real well. I have not checked the old blade but I think it may be missing a couple of carbide tips. New blade came just in time

  43. Oh how wonderful it would be to have more room than I need. I'd love to have the room to "sticker" my wood. I should not have ordered the wood so far in advance of working with it.

  44. I've never had an issue scanning them in the book.. I just open up the book as far as it'll open and let half the book hang out the scanner lid.... or are you talking the magazines? If talking about the magazines.. I bend the staples up so I can lift off the pattern section... maybe they don't put them all on bigger sheets in the center of the magazine anymore? If the pattern is in and odd place I fold the papers until I can get to the said pattern and scan it.. I've said this many times.. It'd be nice to receive a yearly CD copy of all the patterns for the year that was printed in the magazines... for those that have the yearly subscriptions.. I'd even pay more for the yearly magazine to come on CD.. maybe they could do that as an option or make a paid website to read the magazine... much easier to keep a CD than a magazine..

  45. Thanks Stoney. I'll have to do something like that. It's about 4 ft. long by 8 inches wide. It's not cupped too bad so I think I might be able to save it. I should have known to weight it down while storing it. But I am short of space so I just stood it up in the corner. Live and learn.

    Finishing question

Let me suggest White Oak over the more common red oak.. I've done some signs in the past and researched high and low on finishing.. I doubt I'd find the website again as this was several years ago.. Anyway.. the best suggestion was to use outdoor paint.. preferably oil based but latex was second behind the oil base and then the varnishes etc.. Anyway you just buy paint from the paint store and do not add any pigment.. it'll look milky white but will dry clear.. needs to apply very light coats though otherwise will dry with a dull haze.. Outdoor paint has anti mildew, uv ray, and bug deterant properties in it.. When I did my sign 8-10 years ago I used latex and it's still looking great.. outside in all the weather elements
