I know I said I wouldn't do this but..
John B and 5 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
Yesterday when I posted the pug and the Elvis cutting, I said I would not re-post them when I got them done, but, I came up with the idea of how to make a 'make believe frame' and added a few simple cutouts to it. I liked how it came out and thought it might be helpful or at least interesting to others to make their cutting just a little more appealing to the eye. so here is the results... I know it is nothing special but I think it is a simple solutions for some of the beginner scrollers, if nothing else. Dick heppnerguy6 points -

Granddaughter to wed
John B and 2 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
One of my granddaughters is getting married in November. In fact she is tying the knot the day before my wife and I celebrate our 57th anniversary. I have made several wedding plagues, using a couple of really nice patterns of Sue Mey's but this time I decided to make them something never seen before so I designed one especially for them. I have it cut and the only thing I am going to add to it is a small red heart between their names at the bottom of the plaque. Me wife really likes it so I sure hope it will be on the newly weds walls long after I have left this life as a memory of my wife and I. Oh, and I get to give her away at the wedding too. I am so excited about that honor. Hope you all like it also. sorry about the poor lighting in the photo. Dick heppnerguy3 points -

I just run across this video.. I know many of you all use a dremel with a router attachment for drilling entry holes.. If you don't already have one this looks like it could be made fairly cheap and looks like it could be very useful..3 points

Halloween Challenge - Spooky Scroll Saw Challenge
bradnjackie and one other reacted to Travis for a topic
I love Halloween. It takes all my self control not to go crazy and buy all kinds of Halloween stuff. I'm not much into the gory, but I like the fun, spooky stuff. It's no surprise, this month's challenge is "Halloween." Post your Halloween themed finished project, or a pattern you designed here. The theme is open to interpretation. You can post something spooky, harvest, or fall related project. When you post it, say a little something about it. Maybe a little story related to the project, what inspiration you took, materials or techniques used. It doesn't have to be elaborate. But it's nice to read a little about a project and seeing the picture or pattern. For a little inspiration, here's the opening song "This is Halloween" from Nightmare Before Christmas.2 points -

Interesting Homemade Plunge Router / Drill Dremel

I have and use a Dremel plunge router set up. Don't use it for drilling holes though. Mostly for fine detail work on furniture. Great setup and easy to use.2 points -
A table saw blade question
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
They do limit the height of the blade. I have one but do not use it. Thin kerf blades would benefit with them but if you do not push the work too fast you should be just fine.2 points -

Burma-Shave
John B and one other reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
Burma Shave was a shaving cream for men. During the late 1940's to maybe about 1960's, Burma Shave made a series of wooden signs that were placed beside the highways of the United States. Each sign was a part of a funny saying that made travelers want to read them for the humor. The very last of the series of signs always read, "Burma Shave" and looked like the sign posted by Rocky. The signs were spaced so that it would take about a minute of driving to get from the first sign to the Burma Shave sign. Here is an example of one that I remember vividly. sign one: It seems as when Sign 2: you try to pass Sign 3: The guy in front Sign 4: Steps on the gas Sign 5: Burma Shave Often all the passengers in the car would sat out loud... "Burma Shave" when they go to the final sign Now you know a little more about the signs that us older people remember so well. Of course they mean nothing to the younger set. I really am not sleeping
Falcon reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
Just to prove that I do get out in my shop every now and then, I have am going to post a couple of easy ones I did yesterday morning. These are not finished yet and I will not post the finished pieces because I know they do not matter that much. The Elvis one took about 10 minutes to cut and the pug took me about 20 minutes to cut. Just messing around, no real reason for cutting them. just needed to be out in my shop and hearing my EX humming away and making saw dust. Dick heppnerguy1 point -
This is for Kevin
Falcon reacted to scrollerpete for a topic
He always wanted to see the wood prior to cutting my 3D bird houses, well here it is. I used pieces of scrap and glue them together to get the proper dimensions either 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" square, next glue the pattern to the wood, drill 1/8" hole for the perch, 1/2" Forster bit for the entry to the house. Now we move to cutting I start with the face of the bird house and then re tape it together and cut the other side of the pattern. Take it apart and you have the end products.1 point -

Halloween Challenge - Spooky Scroll Saw Challenge
amazingkevin reacted to Scrappile for a topic
Let me be early on this one, because I was just taking to a guy about it yesterday. I may have showed this here before,,, but can't remember. This a pen I made for a Halloween pen making contest several years ago. I did use a scroll saw to make it. The black is strips of cut PVC Drain, Waste, Vent pipe. I cut and glued three strips together, to make a thicker piece and scrolled the little bats in to the piece. Glued three more pieces and scrolled some more bats. Doing it that way made it so there are bats on both sides of the pen. I filled the bats with epoxy mixed with red paint. When that dried I glued to two halves together to make the pen blank. I then mounted the blank on the lathe and turned the pen. I had no idea how it would turn out, but I think it came out pretty neat. One of the funnest to make pens I did. Oh, and it won the contest. Coarse there were only 6 or 7 entries.1 point -

I convert all my blackline patterns to redline. Judy Gale Roberst spoiled me. To make a pattern with a redline image, I use Irfanview -- https://www.irfanview.com/ Irfanview is a freebie graphic viewer. it allows you to view, crop, enlarge, reduce, and even change the color of graphic images. When I scan a pattern into the computer, I always save the pattern as a jpeg. Although Irvanview will read and display other format, also. BUT - it doesn't do PDF. Once you have Irfanview loaded, load your pattern jpeg into Irfanview. Click on the Images menu in the tool bar then click on Color Corrections or type a [Shift]-G. When the Color Corrections window opens, find the Red (R) slider button under Color Balance. Move the slider all the way to the right and click the OK button. You'll see that your pattern has turned red. Save the red image, so you can use it later and then print your red pattern. Have fun with it.1 point

jollyred reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
When you make your own pattern it better be in fun Because the boy owners might make you run Burma Shave Boy do I remember those signs along the roadways when I was young. They were so much fun because the messages on them made you want to read them. Now that was good advertising, if ever there was such a thing. I love the way you joggled my mind and made me smile with these. Dick heppnerguy1 point -
Well, I went to Home Depot today and they had the Diable 10-50 for $36.97. With my 10% veterans discount, well, you get the idea. Anyway, it sure seems like a very well made blade. Thanks to all for your help and I gained a ton of knowledge on this subject. Since there is a very similar topic going on with Kevin and his miter saw, between the two, I am now "almost" an expert. I made this crayon holder for my friend's grandson. I found the pattern in a book of woodworking projects. The truck body and trailer are made from poplar wood. I bought the wheels from the local Hobby Lobby. I painted it with acrylic craft paint and finished it with a few coats of polyurethane. And yes, he's a big fan of dinosaurs.1 point -
