    Out Dood Show Done

Just got back from doing the outdoor show, had a decent day $336, and square worked. Sold three car portraits, more then I sold at a car show.traffic was good started out real slow, lot of lookers which is normal. Now I have to make more items for the show in two weeks.

Got a few more done, the Honey and bee is a pattern by Sam Custodio and I did my own on the wording. The cross with the tree is from the "Foot of the cross Scrollsawart group. The U of K is my own, just took one of their clip art of the logo and added some bridges to it. The year of the dog is from a site with drawings of the different years and animals for each year. New grandson is year of the dog. jim

  14. Doesn't seem like there should all that much stress on those roll pins but maybe I'm wrong... or maybe your saw is different than mine.. But my clamps roll pin goes into the hole and the edge of it is notched and rest on the top of the accessory arm.. seems like that torque would be more so on that notched out area and the accessory arm..

  15. This is the first time I ever seen it mentioned in all the forums over the years. It was just a matter of luck I guess. As soon as I changed those clamps in question all has been well and I have completed about 5 more projects since. When I go to order the spare I may just talk to the rep over there and see if they encountered this before. I could actually see why it happens though because of the stress put on that pin when you tighten the blade. No getting around it. Maybe I am a little strong about tightening but I feel it needs what it needs. You can actually see the deformation if you look closely. Those pins are split so they will give some in order to get in the holes but that can work against them in this case because they are used as a pivot point on the arm. Anyway if anyone has an RBI file that away for a possible problem. As I said I had these for quite some time. I had replaced them over the years once before but for just getting extras. Happy scrolling.

  21. Kevin, I'm too old and worn out to do all that heavy stuff anymore. And, in December we'll celebrate 49 years of wedded bliss. The one thing that I have figured out though, when our last child left the nest in 1988 I became her "fifth" child. And I get treated that way most of the time. Not saying that's a bad thing, just irritating. Love her to death and wouldn't trade for anybody else. We just have different ways of seeing things. Like old saws.

  23. Well, I went and bought some blades today from America.... After much listening and reading about scrolling, the one thing that keeps popping up is 'Flying Dutchman' blades. So I took the plunge and bought 3 kinds. Ultra Reverse #5,, Scroll Reverse #2 and Jewellers #1. Not sure I've enough experience to truly know what to do with them, but, nothing ventured nothing gained. The Jewellers blade is purely because I've just found out that you can cut shapes into coins and thought ''I've got to try that''.. Jack of all Trades, Master of None as my mother used to say However, having put in my order, I now feel as though I'm almost a "proper" scroller and to top it all, my hubby has said he'll tilt my saw

  25. Due to the hurricane, today was my first show in a month. This event was actually supposed to be 2 weeks ago but due to downtown Wilmington being hit so hard by Florence it was delayed 2 weeks. This was my first time doing this particular one along with 65 other vendors and things were going well... until a surprise downpour sprung up out of the blue. I didn't even have time to get the walls up on my tent. Really made a mess of things, but after it stopped, folks were right back out and shopping. I had puzzles all over the place because my tablecloths got wet, etc. Anyway, sold 42 puzzles and I even packed up an hour early because more rain was on the way and I didn't want to lose any more puzzles. Next event in 2 weeks. Big show, 2 day event in Topsail Island. I haven't done this one before but have heard great things about it. Iggy

  35. Yeah, I know how that is Ray.. I'm the same way.. I hate seeing people throw out stuff that just needs minor repairs etc.. I've bought a lot of older Delta saws and repaired them and resold.. cars trucks tractors lawn mowers etc.. used to be a fun little side business.. but then it got around and before I knew it.. friends and family would just start picking up stuff and dropping it off.. I had enough of that.. I like picking my own stuff to repair.. luckily I also like to haul a load of scrap every now and then.. because a lot of it ended up at the metal recyclers.. They pay out by the pound.. and that place is a gold mine for people like you and me... I always hauled back about as much as I took in But it was good junk..

  36. In my 25 years of marriage.. this sound like a case of one of the honey does on the list of things broke that she needs repaired has taken a back burner for way too long... Ray.. you may need to double check that list. I know what you mean though on projects.. I've got 2 old 1968 John Deere lawn / garden tractors.. One I brought home to restore back in 2006.. I have it torn down to just a frame.. have the frame and much of the other pieces all sandblasted and repainted.. most of which the tractor just needs reassembled.. The motor needs gone through yet.. anyway I stopped messaging with it back about 2007-8.. bought the second one that ran and worked good but looked rough.. used it for a few years but then the steering gearbox broke on it.. I actually have a spare.. took that tractor apart to replace the box.. and well.. that's where that one sits.. My business / hobby of scroll work and messing with saws.. seems to take most of my time. Not to mention I have 5 old Wheel Horse brand tractors in various stages of repairs too... Been thinking about selling the whole tractor collection and buying more wood shop tools.. LOL My grandpa was cleaning out his shop one day and throwing a lot of stuff out.. I asked about why he was throwing out good stuff... he said... If I haven't used / fixed it or plan to use or fix it in the next 6 months.. It's not worth the storage space.. This stuff I have... thankfully I have another hole shop just for the tractors and their parts etc.. so it's not taking up valuable shop space.. but plenty of moneys worth of tractors implements and parts that'd buy a few wood shop tools I'd really like to get.. Then free up that shop for... More wood stuff LOL

  37. Obviously you don't know my wife. She doesn't understand the beauty of Junk like I do. I see something that used to be beautiful and it just needs some TLC. But, she sees something that should be in the scrap yard.

  38. What does your wife mean by "more stuff?" That saw is a treasure and she needs to be made aware of it. "Dragging things home," those are obnoxious words. It should say you acquired things. But what the heck do I know?

    Star Wars beatz

Just finished these up. Actually finished cutting them on Sunday, but some other stuff (Life) got in the way so I had to spread out my defeathering, smoothing, fixing of one busted bridge, painting (ran out of white spraypaint and had to run to the store), and framing (ran out of poplar 1x2 and had to run to the store again....got extras this time!) after work this week. Frames are done, stained, and drying now, I just briefly put Yoda and Vader in to take pics. Gotta say....I'm pretty happy with em. Or....chuffed as mintballs, as some would put it.

  44. Kevin I used the red because back then it was all I had and really did not know the difference between the 4 different colors that loctite offers. But do now and will use blue from now on. Well I did some investigating today and here is what I found. First I put a block of wood behind the blade and turned on and I drew a straight line down Placed behind the blade and watched the blade flutter. I could see this with the naked eye but with the block of wood really shows up. So I went to the 226 and did the same thing. I have not used that saw all year this year so had to clean the table top off as I used for blade storage and small wood pieces that you hate to throw out. We all have those. Put the block behind that blade and it was as true as can be. Dead on. So I took the blade out of the 220 with the bottom holder and switched to the 226. Well the flutter showed up now on the 226. I put the 226 holder on the 220 and sure enough the flutter was gone. Now I had mentioned earlier I switched the blade clamp on the 220 when it all started. I had 2 that I constantly use for that saw. I have 2 that I leave with the 226. So I figured it has to be the blade clamps but what could it be. Well I compared the 2 bad ones with the 2 good ones and what I found was the roll pins have distorted ever so slightly from constantly sliding in and out of the bottom clamp. But what I think the real damage came from is when you insert a new blade and you use the hole on the upper arm that is designed to hold the clamp steady as you tighten. Well I believe all this time the constant torque put on that roll pin caused it to deflect and bend ever so slightly. And being I constantly change those 2 clamps because I like to preload one when I really get into scrolling production wise. That is why they both are bad. So the outcome is I am using the 2 clamps from the 226 and I will order a couple new clamps along with a couple more quick release levers for future use. Yesterday I could not even get close to a small piece or it would just jump at it and cut it off. Or we all know how to plane with the edge of a blade, well I could not dare do that. Had a couple mishaps that I was able to cover up but put a halt to the sawing because that Navy Plaque has so many delicate cuts. Today finished cutting it with no problem. Huge difference. Chalk this one up to the knowledge bank. I probably could just get some roll pins and push those out. May ask them if they have those too. Thanks everyone for the help. I am back in business.

  45. You know I posted on my personal Facebook page the pictures of the military clocks and sold 4 of them so far. Wanted to give another opinion for those that are on a budget. So today I bought this set of patterns and cut them. They are now out drying after dipping in Danish Oil. Picture taken straight off the saw so they do look much better now. I’ll get some better pictures in a few days. Once they dry and have the ribbon on them. Also cut 3 more of the Airforce clocks for the Facebook customers lol.
