I was looking for a pattern and came across a file of photos of work i have done. I was surprised at the variety and had completely forgotten about some. Prendiville and Christian Bros have combined to form John Paul college. St Mary's is where my wife is assistant principle. These are bout 400mm high and are made from Pine and Jarrah with coloured felt backing.

  6. I was alone this afternoon when my wife took my granddaughter clothes shopping so I thought I would take advantage and cut something simple in my shop while I waited for them to return. So I opened up my pattern library on my hard drive and started searching for something that would be fun to cut. Almost immediately I ran across a pattern that I have had for some time and was not sure If I would ever cut it, but now this pattern of Birchbarks stood out as the one I was going to cut. I made one mistake and made the pattern quite small and it quickly became a little bit nerve racking. First of all, there were a fun cuts that were smaller then the drill bits that I presently had on hand. I did find a couple of smaller ones in my Dremel box and got by using them, even though I still needed them to be a little smaller. Secondly, as I began cutting I also discovered that the pattern was lifting from my board, as I must not have gotten enough spray glue on the back of the pattern. I worked around it and when my wife and granddaughter returned, I told them that I had cut a goat pattern. "A GOAT PATTERN?" they both said with a look of 'why would you cut a goat pattern?, on their faces. I went out and brought in the piece I had cut and showed it to them, and they both replied, " That is really cute". That my friends is why I choose to cut that pattern and now you know my story and I am sticking to it Dick heppnerguy

I have just finished these two plaques. they are both cut from Birch ply. The first one is finished in BLO/cellulose thinners then framed. the second one has just been cut and is not sanded or finished yet. All comments welcomed whether good or bad. Hope you like them.

  12. Actually, if you look closely, the Wen, the Powertec, and the Shopfox are all pretty much the same. The Wen gets good reviews though. My old Jet AF400 is the same one, and it has been running for over 6 years. I was glad to see the new ones come out, as I could get the outer filters again - albeit they're around $10 per filter. Before that I had made a frame where I could cut and use the 3M Firltration filters in it.

  13. Thanks for the update Scott.. This is about how well the EX-21 does with just hooking up my vac to the dust port.. before doing that.. I'd have a pile of sawdust in my lap, LOL.. I don't get that with my Hawk.. but I still want to try to vac the dust rather than blow it in the air with the saws blower system.. then it seems to take a ride through the air and lands on my toolbox and anything and everything else.. Need to portion it off like you did.. I'm thinking maybe actual walls though and run heat and AC.. in the little room.. probably able to do a 10 x 14 ish room.. Hey our news has been taking about the giant mosquitoes down that way after the hurricane.. saying they are about the size of a humming bird... they say you need a shot gun to shoot them out of the air etc.. people are passing out after it drinks a quart of blood.. Sounds like a hoot of a time to me... wish I had more money for ammo.... Maybe scientist will morph some sort of giant bats to be able to eat them..

Hi all, I'm Jackie from Alabama. I've been scrollsawing for about 3 years now and am always looking for new ideas. I also enjoy making jewelry and love incorporating the two together.

  17. Hello, I have always been a fan of the Flying Dutchman blade. But I saw the shark tooth blades offered on the Windfield Collection site. Years ago I started out with Olson blades cause all that’s I could find locally. Before I discovered the online sites. Have any of you used them ? Thanks

  18. After reading another thread regarding air cleaning, I got to thinking about adding an air filter to my shop. I found this one on Amazon. Can anybody give me a thumbs up or down on it? https://www.amazon.com/WEN-3410-3-Speed-Remote-Controlled-Filtration/dp/B00LPD9BDI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1539110839&sr=8-3&keywords=workshop+air+filter&dpID=51yk6KdhUkL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

My brother owns a sawill business.. and yes he does sell the bark.. LOL... there is no such thing as scrap in the mill business.. he sells the shredded bark.. slabwood for fire wood.. and anything that doesn't make slab wood sawdust or lumber gets run through the chipper and he sell the wood chips.. though last I talked to him sawdust was paying more than woodchips so he was grinding it into sawdust.

  21. Yes the DeWalt would be an upgrade over the Delta 40-640 type2.. Nothing against the Delta saw.. it's exactly what I started out with.. as it was given to me by my dad when he wore it out.. I rebuilt the saw in 2007.. and many of the parts was discontinued way back then.. It took a lot of persistence but I found all the parts needed... actually found a guy that bought out a bunch of deltas parts.. he has a web site call Mikestools.com.. he still has many many old parts.. though some aren't so cheap.. but he does have a lot of stuff that no one else does.. He actually had the circuit board I needed for my jointer.. but I wasn't paying the price for it and just wired it direct.. Anyway, I still have the old Delta.. all restored.. and I never use it.. won't sell it as it was my fathers saw and just kind of a sentimental piece that I hang onto.. I do use it from time to time..

  23. Grizzly WILL NOT ship to Cali. I bought one last year and before they shipped they cancelled the because to it is going stupid Calif. I ended up buying this WEN from Amazon. I like it. I haven't had any issues in one year. I have a VERY small working area and it keeps the fine dust to a min. Of course I don't cut anywhere near all of. I recommend this WEN. Good luck Sam

  24. I did some research on these last year.. and found that.. Sharktooth blades are no more than just re-branded either Olsen or Flying Dutchman blades depending on the style you choose... so if you've used Olsen or Flying Dutchman blades you likely will know what you're getting from this name brand.. I agree with grizz.. Pegas blades are the best I've used for the most part.. I use a mixture of brands actually depending on what I'm cutting and which saw I'm using.. but Pegas is the most used blade I use.. Only use their Modified Geometry blades so can't really comment on the others..

  25. I did try them in the # 3 and # 5. They were ok but I prefer the Flying Dutchman and the Pegus MD much better. Flying Dutchman being my favorite. You might give the Shark tooth a try you might like them. It's been a while so I can't exactly remember why I didn't care for them but I know they didn't cut as well for me. grizz Oregon

    Multi-Max 18

There is a Multi-Max 18 for sale near me. It looks great on craigs list. Year is 1995. Price $375 with stand and foot switch and light. Does not have an up front quick tension lever. If saw is good is the price reasonable? Owner has three Hegners and is selling one.

  37. Edward, It looks like narrow, short grain is the problem. When cutting any timber and these 2 things come together you will more than likely have the back (underside) breaking away. Reverse tooth blades, mitigate it to a certain extent and a zero tolerance blade surround will also reduce it some. A sharp blade also helps and a slow cutting speed, not the speed of the blade, the speed you feed the piece into the blade.

  38. Quick update. After using the Scrollnado for a couple of days now, I love it even more. Barely a speck of dust anywhere (other than in my Dust Deputy where it should be.)

  40. I actually bet the blades lasted longer the way the blade has that rocking motion .. the Q3 is a C arm saw and they are quite aggressive cutting.. The DeWalt and EX types saws also have some rocking motion.. My blades last a little longer on the DeWalt and EX than they do on the Hawk...
