    Record Breaker

Last year: Craft vendor friend #1 - Scott, you really need to do the Topsail Autumn show, it's amazing. Craft vendor friend #2 - Scott, the Topsail Autumn show is fantastic, my best show every year, you need to do it next year... Scott - Yeah, ok, sure, I'll give it a try... Today: HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!! I barely have enough inventory to even do day 2... Blew my record away for 1 day sales... 121 puzzles. Previous record was 96. Absolutely mind blowing. Not nearly the crowd size of my usual top event, but folks were buying like crazy, I thought about just packing up and not doing tomorrow, but this is my first time doing the event and don't want to piss off the organizers by ditching the 2nd day. I made 3 special items that say TOPSAIL ISLAND... they sold out. I kept 1 of each for display so I can take orders but that rarely works since my items are purely an impulse buy. This really helps out my overall sales for the year since I missed several events due to rain and the hurricane. I was already a bit low on inventory, now I'm really in deep trouble with 5 holiday events coming up in November/December. I'm gonna be a busy cutter the next few weeks. Then I'll be ready for a break. Signed, Exhausted Iggy

  2. Well I attended my first craft event for the year. I was surprised it went way above my expectations. Sold several puzzles and a ton of Ornaments. I felt so good I came home and ordered the Pegas blade chucks for my Seyco St 21. Now I can see what all the hype is about. Should have them in a week or so and will let you know. I have four more events lined up hope they go as well. Now back to the woodshop to replenish my stock for the next events. grizz Oregon

    Bee

A new one not quite of the press The bee pattern was by Frankey Scrolls, I believe it is in our pattern library. I just put the text on it. A4 size, no frame, edges painted black. This was cut from 8mm pine ply. I made it for a mate, who keeps bee hives, so he can get in the good books with his missus. enjoy

  5. I have had this one on my to do list for some time. I was thinking that I had not cut any intarsia for a long time and thought I would do that just for the practice. I can see I am pretty rusty, so they say. with intarsia but glad I made the effort. I like the subject matter and not sure what to do with it but Maybe I will just offer it on my Facebook page and see if anyone might be interested in it. Otherwise it will just hang in my shop to remind myself that I need to do a few of these to stay in practice. I still struggle a lot with the gluing process and that has always been my biggest problem with intarsia. I seem to get my pieces misaligned and then there is not looking back, Once you get something out of line, every other piece has to follow up with the error and it just magnifies from there. It is a nice pattern and who knows, perhaps I will try it again some time. Sorry for the bad lighting exposure. Dick heppnerguy

    Results ofShow

Saturdays show was a good one, did a little over $300, sold mostly Eagles items which is popular in my area, and sold one Moms Hockey, didn't sell any Christmas Items, but should on my next show. Have a week off until go non stop in the month of November. Crafters I talked to all said they had a good day, hopefully it's a good thing. Now I have to restock the items that I sold.

    I love you.

Another one that I thought was funny. The store where I take some things to sell, those folks think it would sell for sure. I don’t know about that—

  9. I resaw alot and would be lost with out a large bandsaw. I have a 14" Delta with 6" riser and it is a work horse for me. If you have the room buy big. You can do everything on a large saw but not everything on a smaller one. But if you do go 10" then Rikon or Craftsman which is the same saw are the choice. My opinion.

    Misc. Stuff

I don't have much to post. Have not scrolled the last several days as we had out of state visitors. Being bored today I'm just gonna post this and that. Went o HF this Click to choose files afternoon and picked up this magnetic tool tray for the Hawk. The saw really likes it. It was smiling at me while I put it on the saw. My hawk is elevated front and back with 2" casters. I want to tilt the saw, hence the 6" casters. Replacing the 2" casters at the rear the saw will be elevated 4" giving me the tilt. If it is too much I can replace with 5" casters. I'm thinking I will be more comfortable with a vertical view rather than a more horizontal type view. The third photo is a Steve Good pattern I just downloaded. Just hoping someone can make a very similar pattern that says, "Home Sweet Harbor Freight." Perhaps I can bribe the manager to sell me the display model 9" band saw real cheap. It has parts missing and makes a very poor looking display. I want it because it has a cast iron table which I want. Mine has an aluminum table which will not allow me to make a magnetic fence. The last photo is hardly worth the bragging section What I have been doing lately is downloading old familiar logos, signs, etc to cut for my own amusement. Probably to just cover up any bare spots on the garage walls.

  15. Well it has been a while and still a while to go but I managed to stand sit stand sit and get a couple of ones I have had on my list to do for a while pattern by Gayle from Scrollers cafe. Good to be able to cut something better than any medicine not quite at bragging rights yet but I am getting there slowly slowly .On a plus side I have loads of time to practise pattern making .

  16. Weather getting pretty cold up here so I made some stuff for the coming season, nice and warm in my basement. Halloween and Xmas decoration from Steve Good, leaves from Sue Mey (compound cut) and of course I had to make some more bird houses to get rid of some scrap wood.

  22. I'm another one who uses the Rikon 10" saw and find it cuts well. But, I don't like either the fence or the miter gauge that came with the saw and would pay for quality replacements if I could find them.. For re-sawing, I have 400mm (about 16 inch) ACM (an Italian brand) saw and it is high quality all the way. But, it costs a LOT.

    Record Breaker

Wow sounds like a great turnout for you.. Good thing you bought that other saw.. now you can run two at a time.. Maybe Mrs Iggy will jump in on making a few puzzles ... About the only help I get with business from the wife is she'll do some packaging for the mail.. but she won't do any of the computer stuff ( which is my least favorite ) .. but at any rate.. the biggest thing she does is put up with me so at least I'm happy for that.

  24. As with anything.. A crap bandsaw with a good blade can make the bandsaw 2-3 times better, LOL I started out with a cheap craigslist find on a Ryobi 9" bandsaw... For a cheap saw it had a decent roller bearing blade guides set up... I wasn't impressed with the way it worked when I first bought it.. but of coarse it was used and had a cheap blade.. not to mention worn out blade too... Changing the blade made the saw actually not bad for small work.. I used that little saw a lot.. made some bandsaw boxes etc with it.. nothing too big because the max. height cut was only like 4" or there abouts..even did some max cutting height resawing with it for thin boards to make ornaments with.. That all said.. I wanted to be able to do some bigger work with resawing and larger bandsaw boxes.. so I bought a Grizzly 14" bandsaw with riser block and a upgraded resawing fence.. a foxshop rolling platform to make it easier to move around the shop.. Talk about a heavy saw... It's about all I want to do to move it even with the rolling stand, LOL.. To do it over again... for the amount of money spent.. if you're going to go big.. take a look at ALL your options.. I have spent right near a grand for my set up... I could have bought a much better saw with bigger HP motor etc that was more set up for the bigger stuff than what I got.. BUT you live and learn I guess.. Grizzly may have some good deals on them with their holiday sales they typically are running through the holidays... Over the years I've seen nothing but good reviews on the Rikon 10" bandsaw.. since I'm not resawing like I thought I'd like to do.. I kind of wish I'd have went that route.. Nothing against my saw.. just I spend a lot of money for a resaw set up and just didn't find resawing for me was not as valuable as I thought it would be. and the rikon has some nice height for making bandsaw boxes and things that I do actually use my saw for.. Anyway I guess I have the option to resaw if I need it.. and yes I have actually needed it a couple of times.. the issue with that is my set-up has to be completely changed for resawing one or two boards.. swapping blades and what have you takes a lot of time for a proper setup.. So as the others have said.. think about what you want to do with the saw... and how big a saw you'll need... weigh in on all the options with the saw cost factor.. if you're going big anyway.. as I could have had a much better saw for about the same money.. My grizzly has good reviews.. and I like it.. just spent more on a lower end saw by the time I did the upgrades...

  25. As I said earlier, I have the 10" Rikon. I put the Carter Stabilizer Guide on it and with a small blade can cut very tight curves. I also have a 16" Jet for resawing and heavy ripping or cross cuts. The 10" works great for stuff too big for my Hegner Scroll Saw. I end up using it a lot. So much depends on what you want to do with it. If it is resawing, then the 14" is much better.

  28. What are you expecting to do with it? I have an old 12" Craftsman in perfect shape which I seldom use. I have a HF 9" band saw which is used daily. I have had it for about three years. It sits next to my scroll saw. It is just a clone of many other 9"saws but is serving me very well. If you wish to do re-sawing I would think a 14" saw would be a minimum.

  36. I don't have a 'stand' for my saw, it's on a bench, so I'm going to try and put a piece of 2x4 under the saw itself. It's bolted to the bench and hubby says he can raise the back with a piece of 2x4 and bolt it all to the bench. Has anyone done this before ?

  47. I have an unheated finishing shed that I try to heat with a small electric heater. After spraying a light coat I would allow to dry four hours or overnight. I recently purchased a used heat lamp, that was used for automotive painting, and have reduced my curing time to fifteen minutes per coat. I am using a rattle can of finish. I applied five coats on four items today before lunch.
