  3. I have had this one on my to do list for some time. I was thinking that I had not cut any intarsia for a long time and thought I would do that just for the practice. I can see I am pretty rusty, so they say. with intarsia but glad I made the effort. I like the subject matter and not sure what to do with it but Maybe I will just offer it on my Facebook page and see if anyone might be interested in it. Otherwise it will just hang in my shop to remind myself that I need to do a few of these to stay in practice. I still struggle a lot with the gluing process and that has always been my biggest problem with intarsia. I seem to get my pieces misaligned and then there is not looking back, Once you get something out of line, every other piece has to follow up with the error and it just magnifies from there. It is a nice pattern and who knows, perhaps I will try it again some time. Sorry for the bad lighting exposure. Dick heppnerguy

    Misc. Stuff

I don't have much to post. Have not scrolled the last several days as we had out of state visitors. Being bored today I'm just gonna post this and that. Went o HF this Click to choose files afternoon and picked up this magnetic tool tray for the Hawk. The saw really likes it. It was smiling at me while I put it on the saw. My hawk is elevated front and back with 2" casters. I want to tilt the saw, hence the 6" casters. Replacing the 2" casters at the rear the saw will be elevated 4" giving me the tilt. If it is too much I can replace with 5" casters. I'm thinking I will be more comfortable with a vertical view rather than a more horizontal type view. The third photo is a Steve Good pattern I just downloaded. Just hoping someone can make a very similar pattern that says, "Home Sweet Harbor Freight." Perhaps I can bribe the manager to sell me the display model 9" band saw real cheap. It has parts missing and makes a very poor looking display. I want it because it has a cast iron table which I want. Mine has an aluminum table which will not allow me to make a magnetic fence. The last photo is hardly worth the bragging section What I have been doing lately is downloading old familiar logos, signs, etc to cut for my own amusement. Probably to just cover up any bare spots on the garage walls.

  8. Here you go. The spiritual store lady requested a modified coexist with more symbols and changed around. It was fun doing it the hard way with paper, scissors and tape, But that's how I've been doing it since 2004. And then a dad project for the girl at the store.

Cool, i inverted the colors so it is now a remove the black pattern, it might be a little easier to understand, at least it is for me. Russell

  10. Nothing has changed. It's just Google's new policy to put up a flag on regular HTTP websites. It switched about a month ago. Websites without an SSL certificate get that warning in Google Chrome. I'm going to switch it over soon. But work has been beating up on me for the last 8 weeks or so (hence why I haven't been as visible lately). If you're concerned about it, just put the S after HTTP and you can use the certificate I currently have. So our website would be https://www.scrollsawvillage.com. Unfortunately, as soon as you click a link, the S goes away and back to the plain HTTP. Once I get some breathing room, I'll switch it over sitewide. I just want to make sure that I have plenty of time to focus on it in case something goes wrong, I have time to fix it.

  14. New for 2018 - Happy Halloween pattern is from Steve Good. The Pumpkin pattern is from Kathy Wise. Forgive me for my "Intarsia sins" as I dyed the pumpkin and stained the cat.

  15. I'm not entering this as part of the Challenge but it seemed an appropriate place to share it. My grandson is a huge Halloween fan. He did some chores for his parents and me so he could buy a $10 skeleton, he pronounces it skellington. I've been setting it up in his front yard doing something different each day while he is at kindergarten. I'm going to try to continue till the 31st. I did use my scroll saw on the skeleton fish you'll see in one picture! I borrowed his cousin's skeleton, not his actual skeleton you understand, and added his skelly-dog for a few. j

I found a file on Thingiverse that was meant for laser cutting but I tried scrolling it instead It reminds me of a tornado and looks quite 3D although its really flat You can get the file here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:389075

    Bee

A new one not quite of the press The bee pattern was by Frankey Scrolls, I believe it is in our pattern library. I just put the text on it. A4 size, no frame, edges painted black. This was cut from 8mm pine ply. I made it for a mate, who keeps bee hives, so he can get in the good books with his missus. enjoy

  18. Well finally got to finish this portrait for a friend of mine. I want to thank Paul (Grampa) for doing this pattern so quick for me. I had to tweak it a little and move the date over so I could make it a little bigger. I just couldn't cut the one that Paul did, it was just to small. I had a hard time with it. This was originally going to be an 8 x 10 made out of B/B Ply but I decided to do a complete heart around it out of Oak. I hope she likes it.

Riser block raise the top of the saw, mine raised it 6" for more clearance to resaw wood. I went from a 93" blade to 105", from being able to re-saw about a 6" wide board to around a 12" wide board. http://www.grizzly.com/search?q=(riser+AND+block)+OR+(riser+OR+block)

    Small band saw needed

I bought my Grizzly model after asking around and many seemed to like the model I bought... which is why I bought mine.. I love it.. but like I said.. watch the spending and the options.. This is like the one I have.. mines a couple years old now and different colors etc but basically the same saw.. http://www.grizzly.com/products/Grizzly-14-Deluxe-Bandsaw-35th-Anniversary-Edition/G0555LA35 Scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll also see the riser block like I bought for mine.. and the re-saw fence ( which one could just make one from the existing fence ) and the rolling base.. by the time I really was done he price was right up there with some of the bigger saws that actually came with the features I paid extra for.. add up the prices.. then look at this Laguna that JT mentioned.. as it already is set up to cut a 12" high board.. looks to have wheels on the base.. etc etc.. like I said... have to watch out for the features offered.. Some of the features I purchased at a later time.. so the price wasn't really considered high at the time I purchased.. otherwise I'd have bought a bigger saw with the features already to go... Laguna is on sale from woodcraft..https://www.woodcraft.com/products/laguna-14-12-bandsaw?gclid=Cj0KCQjw6rXeBRD3ARIsAD9ni9AWka0ZsGTV-jwCXM2t_Xsj_Kp1xxLnqqVPlExVrDKdl2IDNDM4GKMaAoV-EALw_wcB

  32. sorry if this is a dead thread, but I have the porter cable version of this jointer with the vari speed thing, jointer works for my needs. could anyone tell me how to bypass it and wire the motor direct. is it just a power wire from the switch to the circuit board and another wire from circuit board to the motor? is it that simple to wire it direct. I don't really use the thing and I wonder if I would get a bit more power wiring it direct or even putting the circuit on a switch to bypass it and use it if and when I need to. could anyone confirm or deny that the vari speed circuit could or would take away power performance. just curious is all.

  35. A little bit of an update......I cut and applied my patterns to eight pieces of mahogany today. I cut out 2 of the panels and they came out waaaaay better than the ones I cut out of the aromatic cedar. They appear to be much stronger too. I think I might go ahead and get some 1/4" mahogany and recut a couple of the pieces that are cedar. I think in the long run, the whole thing will be stronger. Thanks to all of you for helping me out here. I learned a lot.

Yes Ray, the vacuum hold downs are just cut out of a 2X4 with 1/2" dia by 1/8" thick rare earth magnets in each leg. I just drilled a 1/2" pocket and used epoxy to bold them. They are powerful. I have 2" casters front and back on the saw. I'm replacing the rear 2" ones with 6" ones.

    Record Breaker

Cutting puzzles is my off-hours hobby, instead of going out singing karaoke, the day job doesn't care. I better not get tired of cutting them... I sold 178 of them this weekend and I am so depleted on inventory now I'll be very busy the next 3 weeks before my stretch of 5 straight holiday events begins. If I'd been better prepared for this event, I could have sold another 30-40 but had simply run out of so many things. Can't wait for next year.

  48. Creepy skull I found on Pinterest, couldn't find any artist reference to give credit to. It is now stained a VERY dark walnut. Also...Halloween tends to have a lot of parties, and scary stuff at the parties, so who better to DJ the party than the Big V himself? Cut this one yesterday, had one tiny bridge break on me (bad cut planning on my part, cut the wrong side leading towards the bridge first, the thicker rim around the right-hand side of his shades). And for the record (har....DJ's...records....okay, I'll keep my day job), I also have a DJ Yoda to go with Darth Vader.
