    Juxtaposition

I'm not trying to brag, but there is a story to this latest project of mine that I wanted to share. Looking at the project you may recognize that the top half is a beautiful pattern done by one of our colleagues - Dan (nickname Fish) - done in 2006. I saved it and always wanted to scroll it. Then somewhere along the line I found a picture (see second picture - I'm 99% sure it's in the public domain) that made me remember the effort by Dan. When I saw the second picture my mind raced on - I just see so much symbolism in both, on many levels, and the thought of the two together was the inspiration I needed. Since I don't have the skills to make a pattern I asked Dan if would. Indeed he did, and what you see is the result. To me this is very eye-catching because of the multiple topics of symbolism expressed. So kudos to Dan for creating the patterns, and I got a real kick out of doing this project. Welcome your constructive comments.... Vin p.s. -- It is done on 1/4" Ash; I used Teak Oil to enhance the color and the grain, and finished it with a beeswax / polish combination.

    Border Collie

MY granddaughter has a border collie that looks just like this one. I had to cut it for her and we are going to give it to her as a gift at her wedding shower. She is so in love with her dogs and takes them with her often. They ride on the back of her flat bed pickup truck. They are working cow dogs and also extremely well trained. I loved cutting this one for her. I know she will like it a lot. This is a pattern made be Gayle and posted in The Scroller Café. Dick heppnerguy

    A Milestone

I think I hit a milestone last weekend. I finished off my first can of spray adhesive. While I know some of you guys run through a can a week, I've had this one more than a year!

    Split Personality

I just finished this Alex Fox pattern. It took a while, and my Dewalt developed issues when I had about 75 cuts left to do and I nursed it through. 1/4” Baltic Birch, mounted on nominal 1” Poplar. 252 cuts!

  7. You can, with a little ingenuity, do a lot on a pin end saw, I did my first WordArt pattern, among other things, on my pin end, Sorry, pushed the wrong button and don't know how to delete this answer as it's not what I wanted to do. But saying that, these were done on my little machine. Brenda x

  14. 1: I can turn a tight corner 2: Spiral blades are not so bad 3: Thin ply is much more difficult to cut accurately. 4: Check a pattern before cutting. 5: A blade snapping is scary 6: mdf cuts well but the dust is awful 7: A smaller piece of wood is easier to cut with. 8: Hegner blade clamps are brilliant. Had a wee play this afternoon with a couple of Halloween patterns. Mainly for the curves and points. Used a spiral which snapped half way around. My first snapped blade and the noise made me jump. Fitted a flat and continued on with the witch. I used a thin bit of ply and it was difficult to hold back the blade All in all a good day.

Just happened to have the first one still in the car showed her with staples bill. Called manger over showed her how. If I don’t know how to do something I ask an don’t just say can’t be done.

    Got New Wheels

Maybe that is why he is buying the drafters chair with the caster wheels on it... then you can chase it around the shop while sawing,

    Got New Wheels

Hawk makes a wheel chair accessible stand.. just basically a wide front stance.. looks like it'd take up a lot of room though.. at first I didn't like my Hawk stand compared to my DeWalt three leg stand that I was so used to.. as well as my DeWalt is on quite an angle / tilted that I really loved.. I've tried to raise the back of my Hawk saws... and my Excalibur.. only ended up picking up a lot of vibration... so I put them back level.. Now that I've been using these saws quite a lot over the last 1.5 years and not using my dewalt much at all.. I've grown used to them.. though if / when I do actually sit at my DeWalt.. I do feel more comfortable.. Maybe one day I'll fuss with tilting the other saws again.. when I have more time to tinker around with it.. i'm sure I can probably get the vibration down to a minimum if I took some time to tune the stand and whatever...

  24. Well finally got to finish this portrait for a friend of mine. I want to thank Paul (Grampa) for doing this pattern so quick for me. I had to tweak it a little and move the date over so I could make it a little bigger. I just couldn't cut the one that Paul did, it was just to small. I had a hard time with it. This was originally going to be an 8 x 10 made out of B/B Ply but I decided to do a complete heart around it out of Oak. I hope she likes it.

  26. I'm not entering this as part of the Challenge but it seemed an appropriate place to share it. My grandson is a huge Halloween fan. He did some chores for his parents and me so he could buy a $10 skeleton, he pronounces it skellington. I've been setting it up in his front yard doing something different each day while he is at kindergarten. I'm going to try to continue till the 31st. I did use my scroll saw on the skeleton fish you'll see in one picture! I borrowed his cousin's skeleton, not his actual skeleton you understand, and added his skelly-dog for a few. j

    My first go at letters

Looking good. Make the most of your assistant, they grow up to damn fast. As DW said tight turns etc will come with practice. Once you get your new saw, get yourself a gross of various sized blades, find a practice pattern and go to it.

    Got New Wheels

I bought a Lincoln 125 mig about 15 years ago. I loaned it to my best friend who was building a 7 1/2" gauge locomotive. A few weeks ago I got it back. He had to rummage a bit to find it. Another friend is building devise to twist dog bones from polypropylene rope for dogs. He needed the welder so I gave it to him in exchange for putting another gate in my DC and two dog bones.

    Got New Wheels

I built two saw stands so far. One with four legs and one with 3. I really do like the 3 legged one the best. With that said, I'm sure there is a way to convert your Hawk to a 3 legged stand. Maybe by combining the two front legs into one by overlapping them and then bolting to the center of the table? Just a thought here without actually seeing it in person. Or do away with the two factory legs and build a T to fit up under the table with a center leg? There is always a way if you want it badly enough.

  40. I bought mine at that price from them about 3 years ago. It was the best price then, and it is the best price I’ve seen anywhere since until this sale came up. It’s a great price for a good saw.

  41. Here you go. The spiritual store lady requested a modified coexist with more symbols and changed around. It was fun doing it the hard way with paper, scissors and tape, But that's how I've been doing it since 2004. And then a dad project for the girl at the store.
