You can square up the broken hole with your saw. Then put a piece of scrap under it with the grain running the same direction. Take a sharp pencil trace the hole onto the scrap. Cut just to the outside of the line. Should fit in good. You will need to put a piece of tape over the saw hole to keep the small piece from falling thru.4 points

Barbara can you provide a picture of your issue. The box uses finger joints. When cutting them I recommend NOT stack cutting and make sure to check your blade to table to be sure they are square.3 points -
Cutting on a Black line or Other??
SCROLLSAW703 and 2 others reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
I have been cutting black lines forever. Bobscroller makes his patterns in red so I cut his red lines. Did not have any effect either way. What I do find myself doing is sometimes depending on the pattern cutting either on the line or just inside. Give you an example. The welder pattern which I am cutting now that Bobscroller did for me has such thin areas between cuts so I chose to cut inside the lines to widen those areas just abit. I do this at times with lettering too. These are tricks of the hobby as you keep doing this stuff.3 points -
I'm a black line girl. I have a laser printer and only print in black and white.3 points

Some time my tremor causes unwanted "ripples" in the cut. Have been trying different ways to hand sand. Now I have taken broken sanding belt and cut into narrow strips. Then cut to length install set tension and sand away, no tremors ;-). See the video demo. IMG_0215.mov2 points

The talented bobscroll was kind enough to put the text/rose pattern in the Library. I designed the frame. Stack cut 2. Text is 1/8". Frame sides 1/4". Square corners are 3/8". All BB. 40.9 saw hours, but that is slightly misleading. Corners & backers were not stacked. Our Church has an outstanding office manager/receptionist. She told us a couple of years ago that the Psalm John 3:16 is carved on the back of her deceased brother's tombstone. One will be given to her & the other will hang in our home. jerry2 points

Hawk 226 VS (2004 model) Dust
3Dface and one other reacted to SCROLLSAW703 for a topic
Howdy, I sincerely appreciate your thoughts and concerns 3D! That means an awful lot to me, my friend! That is one of the biggest reasons I enjoy this site so much. Everyone here cares about one another like family. This is the first site I have ever had much involvement with that folks treat one another with respect, dignity, and the courtesy we all deserve. Not nitpick at one another, and rundown the way a person posts something, or their spellin', or wording, or what they have to say. I have been involved with numerous other sites that I no longer associate with just for those reasons. Life is to short for extra drama. I am not there to be judged for my posts or my grammar. I admit, some of mine ain't the shiniest, but I try to get it proper to keep from bein' judged. My scroll experience speaks for itself. I feel like I don't have to explain anything to anybody. I learn something new with every project, and if I get myself in a tight, right here is the first place I come huntin' for answers because I know there is far more knowledge here than I have in the 25+ years of scrolling I have. I don't know everything, and don't claim to. But if I read someone's post and can offer advice or help, I will do my best to do so. I ain't the type to horn in if I can't do any good. I have a great deal of respect for every scroller here, and enjoy the company of you all. It makes me feel at home here when I read the comments you leave on my posts. I feel like I have done something that helped someone that way!:) Bein' laid up is absolutely no fun! And I have had my hat full of it the last year or so. Scroll Saw Village has allowed me to post, chime in, and be involved with everyone while I'm not active in the shop. It helps to keep my mind and hands busy in several ways. I am a technical type fella. I need to be doin' something with my hands and my mind, or my mind just sits and spins, if that makes any sense. I certainly appreciate your thoughts, 3D. Keep them coming Sir. You are welcome to call anytime. My cell number is (785)772-7321. If I don't catch your phone call, leave a message, and I will call you back. I don't always hear my phone. Look after yourself, my friend. Thank you again for your response. I sincerely appreciate your support! Brad2 points -
Oh I did, but could only find the top layer, the rest fell into my sawdust bin I think as I was stood over it at the time. I used a backer tape, my usual one, I've never put a pattern directly onto my wood LOL I didn't know you could I've done the 'patch' and it's sat on my work top with a tiny clamp. Hopefully that will work. Wish me luck, as I'm not the 'quickest' of scrollers and it will take me at least 3 days to do another one.2 points

Since it is plywood, what about some wood filler and then paint to hide it. You can use saw dust and glue or buy wood filler. I think that sheetrock joint compound might work also. Fill the spot and sand smooth. An ivory or cream colored spray paint is close to the color of the ply. Or go bold with a color that doneena likes. Black with a white backer would look good also.2 points

I can't stack but my scroll saw blade may be the answer. I now my blade can't get a hundred % strait. Thanks2 points

Just put a band aid on it, I'd certainly try making some sort of repair on it.. Maybe someone has a perfect idea on how to repair this.. I'd probably try to take some of the sawdust from cutting it ( same wood ) and mix up some with glue o make a homemade wood filler so to speak.. and try filling it in.. You may need to re-cut the corner of the M out a little.. This will still be a different look in that spot.. but wouldn't be so noticeable.. If you paint it it'd hide that spot if you fill it like I mentioned.. Also see what other say.. they may have a better idea..2 points

My mistake or over exitement
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to NC Scroller for a topic
The way I look at it is if you do not make a mistake once in a while you are not learning. Most new things have a learning curve. Also if you walk a way from scrolling for an extended period it does take some recovery time to relearn the feel.2 points -
brad, no sorry needed man. i have seen first hand how hard back troubles are. i will send nothing but positive energy your way and hope this is fixed soon.2 points

Whatever gets the job done and work arounds are sometimes just as rewarding as finishing the piece. I love making lots of different jigs in my shop as the need arises for some project. It is rewarding. Now I do have alot of jigs laying around that I can not remember what they were for. if I run into the same situation I usually just make another jig.2 points -
I just cut the black line. When i started years ago i thought the red line was easier but it was a pain to make everything red. Just relax. you know what needs to be cut, just do what you know and dont over think it.2 points

Hi Danny: I tend to use a light grey - For me it makes it easier to see and follow the line Was black for years because it was all I knew - Now, I'm a Villager, and there is always someone here that has a better mouse trap (in a good way) But as Paul mentioned, you have to find what works for you Fab42 points

I cut on the black line, and have the light coming in from the side, so the blade casts a shadow of the blade away from the line. Don't have a problem telling when the blade is wandering away from the line, which happens quite a bit with my cutting.2 points

My draftsman stool has a back on it, which helps quite a bit when I want to lean back to relieve the pressure on the back. It also has a built in footrest, which I don't use. Didn't put the arms on it, made it easier for me to move around while sitting.2 points

Border Collie
frankorona reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
MY granddaughter has a border collie that looks just like this one. I had to cut it for her and we are going to give it to her as a gift at her wedding shower. She is so in love with her dogs and takes them with her often. They ride on the back of her flat bed pickup truck. They are working cow dogs and also extremely well trained. I loved cutting this one for her. I know she will like it a lot. This is a pattern made be Gayle and posted in The Scroller Café. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

sorry i should have signed "- chris" i have found SSV to be as you described. i have also been to sites that seem to have "cliques" . i would post or ask questions and not only get no haswers but most of the time no views even though the board is active. i feel excepted here. even though i do a lot of "non-traditional " scrolling. i am thankful for all here as well.1 point -
Try to fill it , sand and paint it. If that doesnt work, do a new one.1 point

Do I have to consign this to the fire ?
OCtoolguy reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
Why did you not look for the piece in the pattern when you took it off?? It was probably stuck to it being that is how it came apart. Did you use blue tape under the pattern or some other backer?? That is why it is a good idea to not adhere the pattern direct to wood. I use to to do that when I first started but finding out about blue painters tape on some forum many years ago I have not looked back. I have had small fragile pieces break but almost always just glue them back on. If the original piece it is hard to tell the difference. Good luck By the way with that patch trick, the easy thing to do is use a sharp exacto knife and score the piece instead of using a pencil and cutting. The thin blade is as sharp of a point you can get. You would not even have to use the saw to cut it. A few passes over it and pop it off the plywood.1 point -
Cutting on a Black line or Other??

I use a grey fill with red outline, I find it easier to see those pesky tiny blades. But there again my eyesight is no longer 20/201 point -
I agree with Al... The instructions with mine say to keep it a minimum of 3 feet from any obstruction for best performance.. including shop lights, garage doors etc.. I realize that would be almost impossible to do in a very small shop, LOL but I think where you have it placed is really restricting its use considerably. I wanted to put mine right in the corner where all my saws are.. but then it's just in the corner with a wall on two sides.. so figured that probably wouldn't work out too well.. seems to be doing great where it's at..1 point

Ray not trying to be a smart aleck but it looks more like you are storing your unit than using it. I think if you chain hung the unit where you can get better air circulation it would operate much more efficiently. Just sayin.1 point

You owe me a new keyboard. I managed to get all the tea I spewed off my monitor, but the keyboard didn't make it. I use a bar stool, a folding one with a back to it, got it at Target a few years back and then my wife was going to throw it away when a paint can got knocked over and splashed paint on the legs. I commandeered it for the workshop. My saw sits up on the workbench, they're a good height together.1 point -
