Whew, just in time - but actually still a few hours of Halloween left! These "Ghost Goodie Holders" were from Paul Meisel (www.meiselwoodhobby.com) and provided for free last Fall by Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts magazine on their website and can be found here: http://scrollsawer.com/2017/08/01/ghost-goodie-holders/ - (This is cross posted on the magazine's forum.) I have been meaning to make them but I tend to procrastinate, and life (including a week of vacation a few weeks ago) always seems to get in the way as well. Of course, my dear hubby has been asking if I was going to get them done in time for Halloween and I did (barely). There were a couple of reasons for making these. First, I thought they were cute. Second, as I think I have previously noted, my husband's Aunt use to do a lot of painting of such items. Her husband would cut them out for her on the scroll saw, and she painted them. They were the ones that first got me interested in owning and trying to use a scroll saw. Though they are now gone, I have many things they did that I love. Especially holiday items. She would have liked these and done a much better job painting them then I did and would have added a lot more "detail." I was just happy to get them done! I have actually had them cut out for a few weeks, that was the easy part. Then I procrastinated on the painting. Now I remember why I think I like the look of "bare wood." Now, I just need to put some "treats" on them. Everyone have a happy and safe halloween.5 points

Got a request from a shop in Colorado
Lucky2 and 2 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
I am starting to put some of my things in a shop in Colorado. A gal called me and said she really likes the items she has seen on my page and wondered if I would like to put any of my work in her shop. So I agreed to do so and made a few of the ones she liked for starters. I will see how it goes from here. I also will be putting a few other items in the box to mail to her. Just letting you know I have not been laying around the house and staying out of my shop this past week. I have a few other items to add to the package and I will get them mailed off this week Dick heppnerguy3 points -
PROUD WORDS FOR ALL MILITARY AND FIRST RESPONDERS

This is a project I completed a couple of months ago. Found the verbiage on Facebook and took a photo knowing it would be a future project for the scroll saw. The panels are made of 1/2" baltic birch ply with a backer of 1/8" painted black. The panels measure 14" wide by 6" & 8" high. I used a # #5 reverse tooth blade for the entire project. Sometimes you do not really know what you are getting into with a project till you begin. Each panel took approximately 10 to cut. Letters are one of the hardest items to cut simply due to the fact that the smallest error can be easily seen by even the youngest eyes. You really get nervous when you are nearing the end of a panel and hope all goes well and you finish with success vs having to throw the work away. I have included a photo of the complete project and also closer shots of each panel. I used two 1 1/2" wide strips on the bake to hold everything together. Thanks for looking. Ron3 points -
Well I gave this pattern a try that Wayne made for me. I want to thank Wayne for doing this so quick for me. It's made out of 1/2 inch Oak with 1/4 inch backer board. I did have a little trouble with the logo part. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to cut the black lines or the white part of the logo. Well I cut the black lines and the pieces started falling out. I didn't want to start over so I continued to cut all the black lines around the logo. When I was done cutting everything out, I just glued the pieces back onto the backer board. I think it looks ok to me. What do you think. He's decided to hang it on his wall so I didn't have to make a stand for it.3 points

national dipping day today
SCROLLSAW703 and 2 others reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
At my house it was a national dipping day today. The past 2 days I have been making bases for my clocks and then sanding all clocks napkin holders and plaques getting ready for this day. Well 3 hours latter and 35 clocks with 35 bases, 5 plaques, 20 napkin holders divided by 2 because each has 2 sides and 10 bases. Dipped wiped down left to dry for about an hour outside and now all in basement where they sit for about a week. Then polished and assembled and price tag put on. I have about 5 other projects that I will continue to work on and hopefully will be done and ready for dipping end of next week. I am cutting it close so some projects may get pushed off for next year. Will see. I am still having fun creating things so on we go. Hope you all have a good day. I did.3 points -
Halloween Challenge - Spooky Scroll Saw Challenge

It's Fall Y'all Pumpkins & Spooky Cat I got the idea for the pumpkins and cat on Pinterest. I didn't use any one particular photo but several to which I incorporated some of my own ideas. I cut all from scraps of 3/4" Baltic birch ply and 1/4" pine ply. I already had some bases cut from pine with scrolled edges that I made during my practice with the router. I used one of them and scrolled a hole big enough to hold a piece of 1 1/2" x 1/4" ripped pine left over from a cabinet I made last year. I attached a PKG of 20 battery operated mini lights to the back (that are a little hard to see in this picture) but look great in low light, then finished it off with artificial leaves to get the balance of fall color I wanted.3 points -
bobscroll very kindly did this pattern for me, before I got my new saw, so it's done on my little PinEnd machine. I love it, but a quick question for those with more knowledge than me.... I've considered putting a red/pink backer on it , or a nice 'wood coloured' backer, now does this type of work usually have a backer on it or do you leave it as it is ? My plan is to have it in my little work area so that I see it every day. To bobscroll, my grateful thanks to you for doing this for me, and to all who have expanded my scrolling know how. It's opened up a whole new world to me and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. xxxx Brenda xxx2 points

My first portrait
amazingkevin and one other reacted to HeeresJohnnny for a topic
So I've been wanting to do a portrait and finally got around to taking the plunge. I used the rapid resizer website to design the pattern. Cut on 1/8 Baltic birch plywood. Just need to make some kind of frame for it, but I got impatient and wanted to share it's of my beautiful girlfriend who also bought me the saw.2 points -

Scroll Saw on Battery Inverter
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to Jim McDonald for a topic
Check the rating plate on your motor and add 50% to the rated wattage. Motors generally surge about half the rating (running draw) as they start. If you have a choice that is a few dollars more for something even larger--get it. The less expensive inverters don't always give a good sine wave and electronics like speed boards get a little sensitive about square and sawtooth waves.2 points -

national dipping day today
SCROLLSAW703 and one other reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
This is true but with all projects weather it is furniture making, pen turning or scroll work, the bottom line is to make it look good it needs a good finish. All part of the process. Unless you can hire someone to do the finishing part I found no easy way but have found dipping in Danish oil to be the most rewarding and easy finish to do. The finish many times separates the good from the best. Some customers do pay attention.2 points -

Kevin I am well past that doing any kinds of numbers like that. I would just give this hobby up for sure if I had to go back to that rat race. Now it is one or two of a different project or if I have to replace a sold item from a show. I think I mentioned once before here I took on a job for a customer who wanted 500 ornaments with possibilities of more. After 200 I told her to find someone else. Never could do repetition work and would never take it on again. I even refuse names put on projects. been burned there and swore never to do that again I will leave all that to you eager beavers. I do these projects at this time of the year in bulk because of the 2 shows I have left in the year. These are the only shows I do any more. Again been there done that and had enough. I do this now for fun. 10-- 15 and even 20 years ago I would have been right there with you trying to keep 6 stores filled and doing 7 shows a year. Try those numbers. Especially this time of the year. Plus working at my real construction job. I am retired in more ways than one.2 points -
Wow, I couldn't even imagine cutting something like that. I hope you post the finished project.2 points

Well I think this is my 4th Scroll saw work done. I learned a lot from this one. Words like, oh cr*p and a few other 4 letter words were frequently used during the making of this. I think I broke it like 3-4 times. Did learn to use a spiral blade and when not to use one. Also used a #2, both from flying dutchman. After all said and done i think i bit off a bit more than i should have for so early in my journey. Pattern from Janevski in the pattern library. Was fun but so glad its done!2 points

Another Steve Good pattern
Lucky2 reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
Started cutting this one yesterday afternoon, finished up this evening. Having a full-time job, family, and delusions of getting back into shape ("hey...I *have* a beach body!!! Ever see a beach without sand dunes? I'm a dune. You're welcome."), there's not much time left in the evenings. So after finishing the cuts and some quick edging with a nail file to get rid of the worst feathers, I'm calling it for the night. I'll finish up sanding the two Steve Good patterns tomorrow, and try to get a coat of stain on em. I'm thinking dark walnut.1 point -

Those will be coming in due time. As Kevin said that if new projects then have to take photos and these are all new projects so there will be photos. I will hope to get to by the third week in Nov. and I hope I can match the projects with the pattern makers because there were a few different pattern makers.1 point -

Creepy skull I found on Pinterest, couldn't find any artist reference to give credit to. It is now stained a VERY dark walnut. Also...Halloween tends to have a lot of parties, and scary stuff at the parties, so who better to DJ the party than the Big V himself? Cut this one yesterday, had one tiny bridge break on me (bad cut planning on my part, cut the wrong side leading towards the bridge first, the thicker rim around the right-hand side of his shades). And for the record (har....DJ's...records....okay, I'll keep my day job), I also have a DJ Yoda to go with Darth Vader.1 point
