Found 24 of these bamboo cutting boards at work a few weeks ago and have been having fun with them. The bear and lighthouse are @neptun's patterns, boy and girl are @Kenny Hopkins, the surfing woody is Sam Custodio, and Captain Caveman and the clown are off Pinterest. Jeff

    Dentistry Plaque

Our dentist has been doing some work for us and wanted to thank him for his good work. He has this logo on his business card and wanted to make a plaque for him. Cut on 1/4" oak and added a backer because the leaves were too fragile.

  3. First thing this morning packing orders this happens. Guess I should hold onto stuff better .. I have two custom orders I’m working on and two made to order jobs going on. With this breaking puts me a little behind schedule. So I’m out sawing a new one and my phone keeps chirping with alerts of new orders both Etsy and amazon. You know when the phone makes a order sound I’ve just gotta check to see what the purchased item is...several orders came in today and one of the orders is for 53 ornaments. Lucky me I anticipated this and already had 32 made. Probably a record money making day for me. Not uncommon to do a few hundred a day this time of year but well into the four digits is not something that happens for me anyway. So anyway mad about the broken clock first thing in the morning but getting these orders is kinda making a sour day a little bit better. Now.. gotta get to work. If I’m a little scarce around here, just know I’m probably knee deep in sawdust. Or tangled up in bubble wrap and packing tape and stuck to a box.

  7. You dug into this farther than I have so I guess I don't have any suggestions for you on taking it apart.. Maybe contact Bushton... I only took it apart enough to get that connecting rod off to change the bearings on each end of it.. Sorry you got took by the dishonest seller.. Hopefully you'll be able to repair this without too much extra $$ .. I absolutely hate dishonest deals like this.. even when it happens to others.. makes my blood boil.. On a more positive note.. I think you'll find you'll love the saw once you get it running right.. Oh... I was going to mention that when you send an email to Bushton.. they don't usually respond very fast.. it's much better to give them a call... They run multi pal small business's and also are Farmers.. so I think they respond to email when they get a chance.. where as a phone call it much quicker.. and sometimes easier to explain something in detail too..

    Just being nosy.

I have about 18 routers so do not ask why. As far as saws yes if doing a business you can not afford to be shut down for any length of time. I am on the outs of my business venture and moving on because getting to old and the show circuit is not like it is and hate doing online selling. That is a huge hassle and the Gov. is making it worse. But also I have 4 saws and all were gotten with a price you could not walk away from. But glad I did have them.

    Just being nosy.

I think that those that sell their work have a second saw in case the first one stops working. When I buy a better saw I sell my old one. I started with a Craftsman then had a Dremel, next was the Dewalt and now the Excalibur. Only keep one. Always sold the old one.

  10. Going to try this from my phone. I have been doing a little cutting getting gifts ready. Some of these are consigned to a scholarship fund where I will get $1 each from each piece to cover some expense and the balance to the fund. In the third picture, there is a quarter in the center for perspective.

  11. For the clock I built, I found the plastic tubing on line and was able to order divers shot that comes in bags online also The shot allows you to add or remove for the proper weight needed. My local Lowes had some of the brass rod in stock but I was surprised to find that Truevalue also had a good selection of rod and brass plate. plastic tube: https://www.ebay.com/itm/11-7-8-Acrylic-Round-Tube-Clear-2-1-2-ID-x-2-3-4-OD-x-1-8-Wall-Nominal-/151541710317?hash=item234896fded:g:IX4AAOSwPe1T85hl Small brass tubing along with "soft shot divers weights" can also be found on Ebay.

  12. For weights I used copper plumbing pipes, easy to work with and the caps to fit the pipe are in the same aisle at your local big box store. Inside I put lead sinkers from a fishing equipment supplier. The sinkers were too large to fit in the small pipe so ended up use shot. The local hobby store had the brass for the shafts, although I'm sure you can find that stock on-line. My clock has no bearings, wood rides against brass. I did polish all the brass shafts, as noted in my initial posts of the build. But you can use lots of other materials. One Genesis clock I saw on-line used rocks.

  13. JT, The construction themed ornaments might do well with your themed clocks you been doing... Many themed ornaments I sell are of Sue Meys design from scrollsawartist website.. She has some awesome ornament designs.. and they seem to sell really well for me.. I'm just not sure how these would do in a craft show type setting... takes the right person looking for that unique gift for someone.. and marketing unique gifts online is much easier than trying to sell odd things at a show.. At least I think.. I could be wrong

  14. Yes, Ornaments is what really makes the business profitable.. selling clocks is just a filler for the "off" season which also helps business.. but really.. the ornaments is the bread and butter for making money.... for me anyway.. The big order is for a company that will be handing them out to the employees at their Christmas party.. so yes they are all the same style ( pictured below ).. Another company last year ordered this same ornament and ordered just over 100 of them.. quick easy to make.. I made the pattern myself per request of the company. This year I've already sold 60 of this same design to a different company last month.. and a few to individuals.. I do make at least 20 ornaments per style throughout the summer.. some I make more of than others due to demand.. I try ( but fail ) to get all stocked up for this time of year so I can take on the task of personalized ornaments and custom request.. Had 8 custom request orders yesterday and so far a couple today.. I don't always get the orders and some I turn down.. I use to custom cut personal ornaments.. but not much anymore.. a couple years ago I bought a cheap wood burning pen to just woodburn the desired name date etc on existing ornaments.. this is quick and simple to do.. and I typically add $5-10 to the price depending on what is added.. A lot of the ornaments I make ( themed ornaments ) may not do well for the craft show scene .. I focus on the themed ornaments because I market them to small companies that may need to find cheap unique themed gifts for the employees.. Also market male themed ornament where their are women looking for that special gift for the male friends and family that are hard to buy for.. My construction themed ornaments sell quite well as do the nurse themed ornaments.. Hottest nurse themed one is the flight nurse with the helicopter.. I tend to get a lot of orders for those from either other nurses or managers to give out to their co-workers.. not uncommon to sell 20-50 of those at one time.. some will have them personalized with the hospital name right below the chopper..

    More stuff done

The Christmas tree was a request from a very good friend, she wants to display all the Christmas decorations that I made for them over the years. The star at the top of the tree is a pattern from Russell (Birchbark), Thanks Russell it came out great and the receiver really like it so big bonus. The other items are different things that I cut this week, getting ready for Christmas and less than one month before we leave for Arizona. The cactus are not finish yet, will drill holes and insert round toothpicks in them, will do that when I get in AZ (gift for the place we stay at).

  16. Howdy Mr. Kevin, Sorry to hear about your car project, my friend. Looks like it may have turned out for the best as it were anyway, huh? Somebody was trying to tell ya that ya had the wrong pkg'ing, brother, & you just didn't hear the voice.;) Awesome to see your ornament sales are off to a fantastic start for you, My friend! I was talkin' to a friend of mine on the East Coast last night about a craft show he is preparing for the first week of December. He asked me to do some scroll saw ornaments, some tea lights, and a couple crosses for him for his booth. He is going to have quite a bit of his lathe work involved in it. I hope it does well for him! This is the first craft show he has ever done. Enjoy your day, Mr. Kevin! Sawdust703(Brad)

  20. Excellent work! The magnet is a weak spot in the 220 VS, & is known for breakage. From the sounds of it, Your saw has had some backyard mechanic work done to it as it is, & presented more issues to be dealt with. Fine job of diggin' in & figurin' out the issue! Keep crankin' out the sawdust! Sawdust703(Brad)

  21. You seem to sell alot of ornaments. Is there a particular style that gets called for most?? This big order of ornaments are they all the same or a mix?? When you say you had some done already, do you make a certain amount of each ornament for stock?? Seems like the selling season is starting off well for you. Good luck as it progresses. It will keep you busy.

  22. I just figured it out... looking at the picture I realize that I had a priority mail box to package this in.. but these boxes are for shipping in the USA only... This clock goes across the big pond.. They would have refused to ship it in this box.. I had the wrong box.. Duh.. Can't tell you how many times I've almost packaged international orders in the wrong style box.. in fact.. I have done it before and realized it as I was about to attach the shipping label.. LOL

  24. You know... I talked about this on another site ( not a scroll saw site but a online sellers group ) and it just made me sick what many others said.. They said to package it and ship it that way with insurance and then when the customer complains of a broken item claim it on the insurance get paid for that one and another by the insurance claim... Just sad how many dishonest people are out there like that.. You know.. I like getting a bargain as much as anyone else does... but I like mine to be honest deals... Yeah every now and then i like to tell some tall stories etc.. but when it comes right down to dealing and doing business.. honesty is the only way.. at least for me.. Probably why shipping prices are so high.. all the people scamming the shipping companies... A couple years ago I ordered a laptop charge cable on eBay.. the seller sent the wrong one.. after I contacted them they commented that they sent out the correct one right away and when I receive it told me to carefully open the box and switch the cables out and carefully tape the box back up then mark it return to sender... This way nobody has to pay extra for the mistake.. well except the postal company.. that comes out of their profit.. needles to say.. I just packed it up and bought a shipping label... I'm not getting caught up in some other person fraud just to save $5

  25. Thanks for the detailed response Kevin. I decided to take a closer look at the motor.... and lost some faith in humanity. I found that the previous owner did some "work" of his own and forgot to mention it to me. The motor was missing one of the 4 long bolts that holds the end together and I found the small polar rotor magnet was broken (part 61). 1/2 of the magnet was right by the VS control (I think that is what it is) and the other half was touching the counterweight. Is it possible that having only 1/2 of the magnet caused the VS controller to cut in and out as it tried reading the speed? I did my best to glue (temporary fix until I can get a replacement) the magnet and put it in the right place. I put the motor back on, and presto, she's humming. Well almost, I still get some decent vibration when I crank it up to 9 or 10 but I don't get the awful noise I was hearing before I took it apart. I tried removing the counterweight to get a better look at things but I wasn't able to get it to move (yes I removed the set-screw before trying to remove it). When I get get my replacement polar rotor magnet, I'll need to remove the counterweight to install it; any suggestions on how to get that off the driveshaft without damaging anything? I'm starting to think I should have just stayed with my old Delta 24" 40-440.

  38. When you paste something into a post, there will be a message in black in the bottom of the post that asks if you want to paste it as plain text. Click yes. That should strip away any MS Word formatting. I don't compose in MS Word, so I wouldn’t know if this works or not, but it should. You can also do as Jim suggested and either copy/paste into Notepad, or compose in Notepad. I use Notepad all of the time when I want to strip away formatting.

    Spiral Blades

That’s great Brenda, always good to learn and try different things. I use spirals 95% of the time. I have only bought my blades from the local hardware stores (which is crazy I know because they are so much more expensive). So I don’t have a favourite, but I do know which ones I don’t like. Have fun with it. I can’t wait to hear how it goes for you. Please keep us updated I’m curious.

If you like to do crosses, there is a gentleman on Facebook who does and shares a bunch here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/FootOfTheCrossScrollsawArt/photos/?ref=page_internal i checked for this one there however and did not see it. i also checked Sue Mey’s site, https://www.scrollsawartist.com/ . While she has a ton of beautiful crosses (70 pages, 12 to a page ), I saw some similar “curved” patterns, and one that has the Jesus but in a different font. I did not see this one, but did not check every page. i will keep looking but maybe someone else knows and can let us know. i love these crosses and need to make some at some point.
