My friend chose to use this design rather than the one that was made in my pattern request.. I'm still going to cut the one made for me in the request.. in fact it's already on the wood and drilled.. just need to get off my lazy butt and go cut it.. Not for a few days though with all the holiday things I've got going on and the errands I've gotta do today.. will be a little busy.. Oh took the picture of it setting on my drink coasters I made.. they are finally done.. dipped in the 50/50 BLO MS.. and then top coated with water based poly.. Made 10 of them... now need to make the holding tray for them..4 points

On this Thanksgiving day, I’m am thankful that I’m finally home from the hospital! It’s been a long, tough ride, and it’s not over. I am attached to a pump dispensing antibiotic, and I have a plastic bag hanging off my belly. I’ll leave your imagination to figure out what that’s for! I will have to have another surgery in a couple of months to reverse that, so I will be back to normal. My head is still very fuzzy because of the medication. It’s very difficult to write this post but I just wanted to wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving!4 points

What Wood To Use??
SCROLLSAW703 and one other reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
I made these coasters and have sort of just finished up with the coats of poly on them.. I intend to make a coaster holder.. kinda just thinking another square larger than the coasters are and using wood dowel rod sort of in the corners for the sides... BUT.. I have no idea what woods to use.. and not sure about the dowel rod wood types.. I think I have some 1/4" red oak and maple.. might actually be poplar now that i think about it.. anyway.. not too sure what other types of wood I can get dowel rod in.. and not sure what type of wood to use for the bottom of the holder.. I feel like doing the holder the same way as the coasters might make someone think there was another coaster there.. and.. so If I was to do it out of another type of wood.. what would I use and what dowel rod type of wood to use that wont really clash with what I have here... I did sort of think I could use a non- wood rod such as brass or another steel rod.. might look good with a solid Walnut base? Anyway, I'm looking for some ideas and thought I'd ask you all what your opinion is.. what would you do? whatever it is.. I made 10 coasters and thought I'd make two holders to split them up... BTW.. the wood used here is Walnut and the thin strip is Cherry.. the other is an exotic wood that I don't recall what it was.. wanna say it's bubinga ? Not sure that is spelled right...2 points -
Are any of you folks into making wooden gear stuff? Clocks or gizmos?
OCtoolguy and one other reacted to Sycamore67 for a topic
It is interesting taking on much longer term projects than normal. A lot of the projects are ones that can be done in a day or two. Some of the clocks will take much longer and that is great. These are more complicated projects but a feet of accomplishment when done. I am finally finishing a project that I have been working on daily for almost 7 months. It has been great but a lot of work for a long time. It is just a different mind set than projects that take a day or two.2 points -

What Wood To Use??
SCROLLSAW703 and one other reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
By the way Kevin you can buy just about any wood dowels. Over the years I bought walnut, cherry, paduk, maple, rosewood, oak and a few others. Now that I have a lathe if i need something special I just spin it.2 points -
You just need to cut really fast so you don’t have time to lose your focus.2 points

First thought for me was Maple. As for dowels. Why not make a square post and cut in half ? Use 4 triangles on the corners to keep them in place ? Just a thought.2 points -

Dgman. So glad you are home. I was in the hospital for 15 days with the same thing but barely did not need the extra plumbing you have. I did have to go back for surgery several months later. Take care of yourself and get better.1 point -

I like this piece a lot. Looks like swallows to me. I used to have a woodburning stove in my shop, when I had a large shop. I called it the "Eraser"; it erased all of my errors!1 point -
Thank you so much, Dan, for the thought. I'm hoping for your long ordeal to be over soon. I, for one, miss your input on so many subjects. GET WELL SOON! That's an order.1 point

This a link to main site. On the bottom right side of the page is the link to the electronics. It may seem pricey but you get the coil, electronics and the battery pack. treat the coil with care, the wires are thin. Also polarity of the power source is critical. Someone had bought two circuits and could get neither of of the two clocks he built to run. I had him send me the electronics and it seems he had a "friend" rewire the battery pack connection and he reversed the polarity. Both now run perfectly. After I am done with my fair season I am going to look at the TRI and Daisy design, I have had feedback saying that the TRI pin spacing is too small.? https://carveshop.com/1 point

Trying this to see if it works. Plugged my phone into computer, then did the same as if I was putting a picture on. I 'choose files', found my phone on my computer and clicked. So you can do it straight from your phone if you wish rather than 'download' it to your computer first. I just don't know how to make it 'smaller' Hope this helps x 20181109_143354[1].mp41 point

As long as you can find the file on your computer, you should be able to pick it with "choose file" at the bottom of post/reply window. VID_20181109_102123204_HDR.mp41 point

Not real sure that can be done , I think you’ll have to upload it to a video hosting site. I use YouTube and upload them there. You have the option to hide the video from public viewing and only place a link to sites that you want to share it with.1 point

What Wood To Use??
SCROLLSAW703 reacted to meflick for a topic
I'm a matchy type girl so I would use woods that I had used in the coasters. Since the Walnut is the primary wood used, like Roberta, I would probably use cherry since it is only an "accent" strip in the coaster its self.1 point -
I hate those patterns that just seem to boggle the eyes. Whats worse is when you start cutting and halfway through you get that scrollsaw hypnosis i call it and forget what you are doing. Was I suppose to cut that or leave that? I think it is overthinking that has something to do with it, at least in my case it is. Scrollsaw hypnosis also kicks in on long straight lines where your focus goes in and out, your mind wanders and you have to focus and refocus and it takes everything you have just to stay on the line. Big circles will do this too for some reason.1 point

Cherry is the wood to use. Check woodworking stores for dowels.1 point -
Ray.. you just click the mouse over the area to be filled... It'll fill the whole area though unless there are boarder lines.. This is why we use it to see if a pattern has any floaters.. just click the pattern.. if there is an area that has a floater.. that area will not be filled.. because it has the boarder around it.. I'm thinking this is discussed in the pattern videos that Travis has put up... but that is a lot of videos to watch to catch the right one with this info in it.. I don't do enough pattern stuff yet to really know what I'm doing.. I've done patterns for several years... but not often enough to remember what I'm doing.. I'm slowly getting it on some things.. I just don't seem to do enough repetitive times to remember everything.. then many times I'm too busy to try so i ask here for a pattern... personally not my thing but yet I want to learn if that makes any sense.. much rather buy a pattern LOL..1 point

I believe many of these car patterns are designed for a minimum of a size of 11 x 14.. I might even consider bigger than that.. the larger the pattern / cutting the larger those delicate pieces will be.. I did the duster one a few years ago and originally printed a sheet of paper size... no way to cut it that small... at least not back then.. I might could attempt it now that I have much more experience with delicate stuff.. LOL1 point

I have been using red for some time now, and much easier on my old eyes, RJ1 point

Scott, I'm sorry you feel offended, and am glad to hear of examples where Bushton replaced a part after the one year. Please try to see if from our perspective. $1400 (without shipping) is very very expensive for a scroll saw. But your customers are looking for a tool that they can count on to last for many years, so in order to get those "Years of Service", your customers pay the extra money. So, Bushton may indeed stand behind their machines, and that is a very good thing, but the warranty absolutely does not reflect that commitment to quality and durability. So, please don't be offended, but instead challenge your company to step up and give your customers a warranty that reflects that Bushton commitment to their customer, Bushton's belief in their product, and honor the investment and faith your customers place in your company.1 point
