I needed some more shelf liner that I use to glue my patterns to. Price online had gone up from $5.64 to $8.64 at Walmart so I decided to swing by the local store and see if they had it on hand and what it's priced. Bingo, $5.64 a roll but only had 4 rolls on hand. That's OK, I saved $12... Or did I? Checkout total $59... the $17 of candy wasn't on my shopping list, so did I really save any money? LOL I think I'll order it online from now on.7 points

Old Band Saw
Scruffydog and 3 others reacted to rdatelle for a topic
Hi everyone, hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. Well a friend of my sons was getting rid of this old band saw from the 70's and wanted to know if I wanted it. He was going to trow it out. So I took it. Free. It was all rusted and the blade wasn't adjusted right at all. He said he had it for years but never used it. Well I took it and took the top off and wire brushed it with my drill to get all the rust off and then sanded it with 400 grit sandpaper to get all the scratches out. Took the blade guides off and oiled them up and readjusted the blade guides and put it all back together. Now it works like a charm. Thinking about painting the stand a different color.4 points -

I avoid Black Friday shopping like the plague. However, I received a sales email from Michael's Crafts a couple of days ago. Michael's is my only available source for BB plywood in this area. They had a buy online, pick up in store sale of 40% off. I jumped all over that. I picked up the items from the store and walked out without having to stand in any lines. Feeling pretty good.2 points

I have a Delta 40-694. Pleased with it, however, our Iowa garage isn't heated, so every fall I grease all the bearings and let it hibernate over winter. As for the "lack of parts", with the probable exception of the motor, it looks like 788 & Delta parts are the same. Would bet that if you ever needed parts for a Delta, you just buy for a Dewalt, jerry2 points

Been running my Delta scroll saw for 6 months now and no problems. When my DeWalt died, I replaced it with the Delta. 5 yr warranty! vs DeWalt's 1 yr. I checked Delta service centers and there is one 15 miles away. Just go to the Delta site and enter your zip to find service centers. bb2 points

I had a dewalt 788 and it hit the dust after 5 years oldso when I bought I bought a Delta and have used it for one summer and have no problems with it. the only gripe I have had is that the speed keeps slowing down U set it on 6 and it keeps moving back to about a 4 I can tell when it slowed down and I move it back to a 6 I bought it thru Loews and will take it back to them for repairs.n It is not as aggressive as the Dewalt and it takes a little longer to do a job. Delta Brand Scroll Saw

The problem with Delta is the lack of repair support and spare parts. It is only a shell of a company that it used to be.2 points -

Love Old Planes
RabidAlien and one other reacted to John B for a topic
Nicely cut. I too love the WWII and WWI planes. The Spitfire, Beaufighter and Mosquito are my favourites. I haven't cut any out, but had probably 50 - 60 airfix models BM (Before Marriage)2 points -
Love Old Planes
munzieb and one other reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
That airplane is the sole reason I found my love of military history. Hated those classes in school, I couldn't ever keep up with the rote memorization of names/dates that it seemed like they wanted. But the P38....loved that plane (and its big brother, the P61 Black Widow!!!). I wanted to know a bit more about it, so I bought a book "The Last Great Ace" about Maj. Thomas McGuire....and that was it. LOL The Pacific air war led to US Marines and island-hopping and Vinegar Joe Stillwell's CBI, then globejumped to the European Theater. But the P38 is always at the front! Love the pattern, love the cut, great frame job as well! Really makes the plane stand out. Is the pattern available?2 points -
Thanks for all the info,It has given a lot to think about.1 point

How to "uncup" my new wood
OCtoolguy reacted to SCROLLSAW703 for a topic
Howdy Mr. Ray, The way I go about it, I use a spray bottle and spray the wood with water, then put a wet towel over the wood to prevent the iron from burning the wood, and allow it sit there and steam the moisture into the wood to allow the stress points to relax, Ray. I wouldn't drench the wood, Sir. You're just asking for more trouble if you go about it that way. Call me if I can be of help, Sir. Sawdust70s(Brad)1 point -
How to "uncup" my new wood
SCROLLSAW703 reacted to OCtoolguy for a topic
@SCROLLSAW703I'm going to hit the local Goodwill stores to see if I can find an old iron. I like that idea. How wet do you get the wood before "steaming" it?1 point -

Before I'd buy any saw brand new, I'd search out Craigslist. Keep an eye on it and watch for a deal to come along. I have had 3 saws so far. All bought used that way. A Dewalt, a Hegner and an Excalibur. I haven't paid more than $300 for any one of them.1 point

Black Friday Shopping
OCtoolguy reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
Good deal Jim. I believe the long lines are a thing of the past. I believe that is overhype these days. More people wait for cyber Monday for sales and yes more crowds in stores but that is a good thing for the economy. It is the shopping season and you will see crowds now. Electronics is always the biggest draw. Those are the stores to be aware of. But the prices they are getting for big screen TVs today just makes you want one. Amazing where we have come with them. I went to Lowes and picked up 2 Craftsman 16 gal shop vacs for $40 each. They had plenty but I went early and there was no crowd at all. Normal crowd. My last Craftsman shop vac just died a couple weeks ago from the abuse I put it through over 20 years. I like these vacs because it has a 2" hose and that matches up to the dust ports on a couple sanders tools I use. Perfect timing for me and great deal. Reg. price $991 point -

Welcome to the Village from East TN. An inherited Hawk saw, don't think you can get much better inheritance then that from what I hear about the Hawk saws. Nice project and you are well on your way with this hobby. Look forward to seeing more of your work and your participation here in the Village.1 point

I bought the Woodmaster as one of their kits. Went together very easy using their excellent instructions. The motor is from HF. Box is 3/4 cabinet with a piano type hinge. Everything is adjustable. It does an amazing job. Russ1 point
