  1. This was the first real project on my new Hegner 22V scroll saw. I call this one "A Starry Night In Grand Rapids" The frame is Walnut with maple trim and splines, the stars are made of various natural hardwoods. The night's sky was cut and airbrushed. I wanted to establish depth, similar to the perspective in the painting, so I offset he city's silhouette. As far as the LED, I have a strip installed that allows you to choose the color, brightness, or transition between colors... the options are pretty limitless. Enjoy

    Christmas wreath

I haven't done much scrolling recently, I've been really busy with work and kids. So as it's Christmas I decided to do s wreath for the door, I still need to paint his face. My wife's friend did all the fancy stuff around the outside. the outside diameter of the wooden circle is 20cm.

    Mask arrived

My new '3M' mask and filters. Seems to be comfortable on first try. Paid for by making two name plaques for hubby's friends. Wow, that means I'm starting to be 'self sufficient' Although I have been reminded that I still have the cost of my saw, blades, glue, wood to catch up on But for today I'm a happy bunny that doesn't have to breath in sawdust.

  6. Been wanting to cut a Nativity for quite some time. Finally got some time in my shop to get it done. This is Steve Good's pattern and made from some alder that @heppnerguy gave me. My wife and her friends really like a video game called Midnight Cinderella. I made some custom ornaments with some of the characters. The are thrilled with them. Here's a detail shot. Cut from 1/4" BB ply. The image is just printed onto copy paper. I also put some Christmas scrapbook paper on the reverse before cutting them out.

  7. First of all, I have continued my recent "tradition" of mailing home-made wooden cards. Here are photos of the cards for the last three years: 2016: 2017: 2018: Then, last week, I discovered a pattern for a great freestanding tree ornament by Sue Mey. So far, have made one of these: I will definitely make more of these. Right now, I am experimenting with combining this along with some coloured glass as a background (stained-glass is another one of my many hobbies).

I've never done anything for anyone but myself before. I do so hope they like them Oh heavens, when I come to look at the photo, the spacing between the name and ampersand isn't even But it's too late now, they are coming for them tonight. Oh couldn't you weep ??? Well, I could. !!!

  12. Alex Fox’s Wolves. 366 cuts. BB oiled, mounted on 1” Poplar stained with True Black. Alex says on his pattern page that this one is rated as intermediate level. I may not ever reach his advanced level. I found this one to be pretty challenging.

    The Guardian

I stacked cut three of these in 1/8 inch BB (12 x 16) for Christmas presents. The pattern is by Charles Hand and as designed, has 260 cutouts. I had to add a few bridges to stabilize some areas and to add the US flag at the bottom which resulted in a total of 297 cutouts. I copied the use of the flag at the bottom from an earlier post of this pattern by Scrappile (Paul). Comments and mild criticism welcome. Keith

  22. Congratulations on your new saw. The Hegner will give you many years of joy. It will take a bit of getting used to as does any new saw. We look forward to some pictures of the saw and your work.

  29. A present for my Mom, who did American Sign Language interpretation for the deaf for MANY years. I never inherited her knack for languages, so I'm pretty much stuck with the alphabet and a few choice signs usually reserved for driving. A couple of ornaments, the snowman was for my wife, and the Christmas tree went to a friend. Some more ornaments, Steve Good 3D patterns I thought would be a fun and easy cut. They were. Alex Fox pattern, a gift for my sister to go on her Wall O' Crosses. A gift for a friend of my wife's, sorta a memorial for her friend's Mom.

    Back at the Saw!!

Been away a while......moved from Maryland to Vermont in September and just getting everything back up and running!! Spent the first few months remodeling and painting...... Put the scroll saw in a nice workshop between the two garages, but too cold to work there....even with a space heater!!....so I moved it to the workshop in the basement until spring! Working on a Christmas Sled pattern that I bought last year. Hope everyone has been well and is enjoying this Holiday Season!!! Lew

  38. The project has taken me about 6 months and is now completed. The Maloof Style Rocker is made of Claro Walnut with lots of interesting and beautiful grain. I learned to make the rocker from Bill Kappel in Utah and went out there months ago for a week long one on one class with him. He has made many beautiful rockers and is a great teacher. He helped me get started and then shipped the parts and wood back to me in Indiana. The chair was a real challenge for me and included so many hours of grinding, shaping, sanding..... One interesting part was fitting the chair to my wife's liking. It involved setting the upper part on the rockers and then adjusting them for height and placement. This allowed the angle of the chair and height to fit her. The finish on it is 4 coats of Teak Oil, 4 coats of wipe on poly with light sanding in between and finally it was sanded with 1500 and 2000 grit paper and waxed with Butchers Wax. I did use my scroll saw on the project. Mostly it was to create wooden templates of some of the parts. It was interesting trying to get the left legs to look exactly like the right legs. I had never done this before and it was a real challenge. Now I am ready to get back to some scrolling projects and want to take on one of the truck models that I have seen.

  48. This is an original pattern made from a picture the client took. It is a picture of a chapel her father built and it will be a Christmas present for him. I'm still not sure of myself in the pattern making department, but I think this turned out ok. 1/4" Maple w/ a stained BB backer. Used mostly FD UR #1, the tiny holes in the roof were done with FD New Spiral 2/0. 10"x10 1/2"

  49. I was given a lot of thick free epay today. I was told it's very dense and hard and heavy. I asked if it can float for being as heavy as it is. My cutting is off, the wrong blade I think. First time trying Epay. The wood makes you slow down.
