    Past projects

So being new to SSV, I haven't had much chance to post my "brags" in the Bragging Rights folder. I thought that I would post a few pics of some of my past scroll saw projects. Most of them, if not all them are Steve Good designs. Made this recently for a friend's Dad. Been a Cubs fan since I can remember, I had no choice but to make this. Made this rose for my Wife Navy Plaque for my buddy's birthday

  3. First of all, I have continued my recent "tradition" of mailing home-made wooden cards. Here are photos of the cards for the last three years: 2016: 2017: 2018: Then, last week, I discovered a pattern for a great freestanding tree ornament by Sue Mey. So far, have made one of these: I will definitely make more of these. Right now, I am experimenting with combining this along with some coloured glass as a background (stained-glass is another one of my many hobbies).

    Sampler tray

A tray made from unknown, maybe cherry? --- just to pretty to let become smoke and ashes. The glasses are also a rescue from some desserts. It is about 16 inches long, 1/2 inch thick 3-1/2 wide and about 4 inches tall to the top of the glasses. I had actually cut the blank and had it lying in my way; not knowing at all what to do with it. I opened the drawer in the tool kit where I had stored the rescued glasses and then knew exactly what to do with it. It was just setting the hole drill the right size and going from there. The finish is merely enough spray poly to keep it from shedding. The feet ( also unknown--I think these are locust, but not even close to sure!) are pinned on with bamboo skewers-, I put cheapie felt feet on the bottom to be able to set it anywhere. My daughter-in-law saw it and said that and some beer will be a good birthday present for a family friend having a birthday this week. Fine by me-- just made it to MAKE IT anyway!

  5. Finished and ready to go. I used 1/2 inch Poplar . Works really well for ornaments. Very little clean up and takes stain very nicely. Two are done in Driftwood and the other (Sadie) in English ivy I believe. Thanks again Russ for the awesome patterns.

    Christmas Tree

I made this for my daughter who's cat died earlier this year, I named it the Lillie Tree named after her cat. It is a Sue Mey pattern. It's cut from 2.5mm bamboo and it's got 2 sheets of overhead projection green colored sheets in between. Marg

    Christmas wreath

I haven't done much scrolling recently, I've been really busy with work and kids. So as it's Christmas I decided to do s wreath for the door, I still need to paint his face. My wife's friend did all the fancy stuff around the outside. the outside diameter of the wooden circle is 20cm.

  8. This was the first real project on my new Hegner 22V scroll saw. I call this one "A Starry Night In Grand Rapids" The frame is Walnut with maple trim and splines, the stars are made of various natural hardwoods. The night's sky was cut and airbrushed. I wanted to establish depth, similar to the perspective in the painting, so I offset he city's silhouette. As far as the LED, I have a strip installed that allows you to choose the color, brightness, or transition between colors... the options are pretty limitless. Enjoy

  11. Just finshed mine today. I actually had this one set up and ready to cut last year,,, never got to it. This is a pattern that was in the Winter 2017 issue of Scrollsaw Woodworking and Crafts magazine #69. designer Bruce Shea Cut in Cherry and star white rose wood.

  12. Fantastic work! A few people have stated that no matter what pattern, it's still just one cut at a time so don't be intimidated by a title like intermediate or advanced. You can certainly do the advanced patterns at this stage. Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse

    Back at the Saw!!

Been away a while......moved from Maryland to Vermont in September and just getting everything back up and running!! Spent the first few months remodeling and painting...... Put the scroll saw in a nice workshop between the two garages, but too cold to work there....even with a space heater!!....so I moved it to the workshop in the basement until spring! Working on a Christmas Sled pattern that I bought last year. Hope everyone has been well and is enjoying this Holiday Season!!! Lew

  16. Kevin, for those of us who couldn't find it in Steve's catalog, how about sharing it so we can have it too? I'd like to cut that one for my own use.

  17. Good to know it was a Steve a Good pattern and you found it. Do send Steve a note, so he can hopefully get it added to his catalog. Funny though, because it also didn’t show up in his blog posts when I searched those though so not sure why that was.

  20. Glad all worked out and you found it. I have made the same thing and is liked very well. I found the pattern and as you found out I was sure it was Steve Good Pattern, Mrs. N found the font but she is right the Coffee sinks slightly in the middle. I will put my copy back in the word art file. for now. I am sure you are relieved to have got it straightened out quickly.

  22. It is a Steve Good pattern.. I thought it was.. and someone kindly helped me in getting the pattern... Some reason the pattern isn't found in his pattern catalog though.. so when I get a minute if I don't forget.. I'll send Steve a message about it not being found in the catalog.. I actually fired up my old laptop and found the pattern.. not sure how it got missed in my transfer to the new computer but anyway.. the important thing is.. I found it.. Thanks for all the help everyone,

  24. The font looks like Cooper Black, a fairly standard font. I made this, but yours looks like "no coffee" is shrunk in the middle just a bit.

  29. Been wanting to cut a Nativity for quite some time. Finally got some time in my shop to get it done. This is Steve Good's pattern and made from some alder that @heppnerguy gave me. My wife and her friends really like a video game called Midnight Cinderella. I made some custom ornaments with some of the characters. The are thrilled with them. Here's a detail shot. Cut from 1/4" BB ply. The image is just printed onto copy paper. I also put some Christmas scrapbook paper on the reverse before cutting them out.

  49. I made it even harder on myself. Alex suggests making it 12”x12” but I just made it as large as I could on a standard printer letter size paper- 9” 1/8” square.
