  2. Have been on holidays since last Thursday, Xmas shopping all done and the wife is happily quilting. Time to make some sawdust. Wolf by @Kenny Hopkins, saddle I found on Pinterest and three from Anniki Lykke Sorenson (saw the owl and elves patterns and had to cut them). Jeff

I've not made any of these in a while and had a special request to get it blinged up, so I had a chat with my wife's friend (the one who did my wreath) and she came through and did this for me. Here are before and after shots.

    Impossible Puzzle

I got this idea a couple weeks ago from this board. Instead of sawdust I used shredded colored paper from Michael's Presently I'm giving them away. Might charge a buck at craft shows. bb

  9. This last year, I went way outside my comfort zone and decided to build the rocker that I posted. My goal for 2019 is to and stretch to make something with my scroll saw that is more difficult and a learning experience. It may take time to find a suitable project but I will find one. It may take a long time to make it successfully but I want something to learn from. I have started looking thru projects to find the right one for me. It will not be fret work and likely something with gears... I know that several people on here make things to sell so a lot of repeat and production type work. But, does anyone have a project in mind for themselves that will stretch their capabilities?

    2019 Stretching

Here is the first scroll saw project I did. Not showing is the pedestal that it is mounted on. 6 1/2 feet total height. 7 months from start to finish, but because of an eye problem, I can only cut for about 3 hours per day. No matter how complex a pattern you choose, you just cut one piece at a time, same as you have been doing in the past. jerry

Ha, you got my attention!! I have looked at that clock for a couple years, thinking how great it would be hanging in my grandson's bedroom! I know it would drive his parents crazy! Please to it!!

    Which saw to buy?

I don't think there will ever be a perfect saw that suit each one of us. Just reading the forums tells me that. I think the Hawk G4 came about as close as you can get. Me adding the Delta clamps got it even closer. Top and bottom feed, adjustable stroke etc. Hotshot The King 16" is 55 lbs the 21" 65. I assume that is without the stand. My Hawk is around 110 lbs with the legs and removing and re-attaching them takes too long so not an option. If the king has a separate stand then it would be easy to make that a quick removal option.

I have used Pike blades, #2/0 and #2, For 40 years cutting brass parts for clocks and model machining. I now use Pegas blades as my most used blades. I have numerous things from Grobet.

    Which saw to buy?

Interesting. I searched for "Pegas" and found a website for a company called Scies Miniatures in Switzerland. They were established by the Grobet File Company. I have no idea if or how this may relate to the quality of their products, but they look have a substantial background in jewelry saws & blades. https://www.scies.ch/who-we-are.html

    Which saw to buy?

By similar logic, we should have the ultimate car/refrigerator/cell phone by now as well. Reason we don't is that every manufacturer tries to maximize their profit by balancing features, options, quality and availability to their best advantage while trying to appeal to customers who all seem to want something a little different. As for dust collection, I have no idea. I presume that the market hasn't driven that need hard enough yet to compel manufacturers to add something really functional. Saw Stop wasn't simply a manifestation of someone's altruistic desire to make a safer saw. It was one man's belief that he could corner the market and make a tidy profit by offering (some say forcing) his safety feature to the customer.

    Which saw to buy?

That's the devil in the details. Chinese manufacturing is capable of making top quality products, so just because something is made in China, doesn't necessarily have to mean it's inferior. The parent company has to specify tolerances, components and testing protocols to achieve the level of quality they want. The fact that manufacturers aren't necessarily re-inventing the wheel doesn't mean they aren't building a better mousetrap.

  20. I sometimes use a medallion. The type you can get from Steve Good. It is too expensive to ship to Canada so a guy with a laser does them. (With Steve's blessing). Other things I just use a fine sharpie. Sign name and date. Most things like ornaments go unsigned.

    Which saw to buy?

The problem is that the Pegas 21" is going to be considerably heavier than the King 16". Ironically, after you upgrade the clamps to Pegas on a King, the price will be about the same for the King 16" as the Pegas 21"

    Which saw to buy?

Another freaking knock-off. People can not think of new innovative ideas on their own so lets make the same saw paint it different and add a different name. Pretty red color. Goes with the green, blue and silver and black out there. Line them all up in a row and tell me the difference. Love my RBI even more now.

    Glue Stix

I use spray glue. I just use way way less/ I will use a super light spray, maybe 1 second per sheet. Then i let it sit for at least 15 minutes until its barely tacky, barely. then put it on the wood. stays in place, pulls right off when i am done.

    Glue Stix

When i cut fretwork I wouldn't consider blue painter tape. I have made shelves with 250 to 300 holes in them .Blue tape is a big pain removing on that type work so I use re positional spray glue directly on the paper , in fact I use it most of the time. I use mineral spirits to remove the pattern It's a lot easier IKE

  35. Thank you Kevin, I have been trying to do a new ornament or two for each of the Grandchildren each year. I started a number of years ago making them each a turned ornament each year, then I started doing Steve Good's ornaments. I remember as a kid when I was around 8 or 10 my Mom and dad got me using their old Montgomery Ward (power craft) jigsaw. I don't know why I went so long in between without doing it.

    Which saw to buy?

Usually the only time I find awesome deals on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace is when I'm broke... otherwise they are asking as much as new cost for stuff when I'm actually looking to buy something and have the cash.. That said though... I've found and bought more than my share of deals...
