  1. This is the biggest thing I've ever done in my short life of scrollsaw learning. I did it twice as I wasn't happy with the first one. It's 22" x 9" and was done for a friend for his sisters birthday. I really struggled with it, especially as it wouldn't fit sometimes on my 18" saw. I found trying to cut some of it, when I felt like I was stood 2ft away from my blade, incredibly challenging. I have one more this size to do for him and then I don't think I'll ever do anything this big again, I don't think I could take the stress.

  3. This is the second 'big' one and it will be my last, I did not find cutting these a particular pleasure as I struggled on my little saw. I'll stick to doing stuff for me that I like. If anyone else visits us I'm going to hide all my stuff away so no-one can say '' Please can you do me one'' as I find it terribly hard to say ''No'' . Mind you, it always astounds me that anyone would want to buy the stuff I make, it's not a patch on stuff I've seen on here.

    Grampa's plaque

My wife wanted a new plaque for her wall and she wanted it to have a red backer board and a pretty design. Well, going through some of my patterns. I found this one that was designed and shared by our own, 'grampa'. and when I showed her the pattern, she her eyes lit up and I could hear the excitement in her eyes as she told me that it was perfect and beautiful. So off to the shop I went to cut it. It took longer then I had anticipated and after I had it cut I showed it to her for your approval. "It's beautiful. Now be sure and take your time finishing it for me." I had to admit that I was glad she had said that to me as I tend to hurry through the finishing part on my projects because I get so excited to see it all done and ready to be hung. It came out to be exactly how she wanted it and I was happy with it too. So there you go. Thank you for your generosity of sharing your beautiful pattern for all of us to use. Dick heppnerguy

  6. Hello everyone!!! First of all, i want to wish you all a happy 2019, and i´m glad to start it with one of the toughest projects that I recently made: this Game of Thrones Backgammon. I played with the lines of the wood, the box it´s made from pine and plywood, and the board it´s from inked plywood: walnut, oak and the natural colour of the plywood. I cutted every single piece, and glue back together in the box. In the outside, I cutted the logos of two houses from the TV show "Game of Thrones": the house Stark and the house Lannister, next to their respective slogans, inked in walnut. The wolf is, literally, a puzzle, and i´m proud of the result. Finally, I pyrograph the surname of the friend for which the game was in the side of the box, and I made the dice of bets too with the same technique. I hope you like it, and I send all of you my best wishes for this new year.

That's the business name the person has who I cut this piece for. I had a stall at markets that she organised just prior to Xmas. She asked me about making a piece for her husband for Christmas, featuring a crocodile. No firm order, and thought I would hear no-more about it. About a week before Christmas she messaged me and asked if I could make something like we talked about. This is the result, Did it all within 3 days and had a very happy customer.

  8. I found this piece of what I think is acrylic at the hospital where I work and put this little Sue Mey pattern on it. Cheap Walmart tea light and there you go. I thought it looked cool.

  9. This is the first item I made for 2019.. made it because I sold it off the website on the 30th of Dec. as it was a made to order item I had listed.. so that is the first thing I made and why I made it... Lame story I know.. Oh.. my first sale of 2019 would be this ornament too.. but it was already made.. Started off my new year making some new clocks ( cut but not finished yet ) so those pictures will be later.. maybe the end of the month.. Also been cutting ornaments that I had sold out of in Dec. to start rebuilding that inventory for next year..

  11. This month, it's an easy one. Post your first project of 2019! "Out with the old, in with the new,"as they say. We don't want to see what you made last year; we want to see what you made in 2019. Fresh off the saw. When you post, tell us a little about it. Who did you made it for and for what reason? Or maybe a little backstory. Projects are nice to see, but it's the story that goes with it that makes it special. Here's to a productive 2019!

  18. Got this pattern from Holz Brothers, not perfect but I hope they will be happy with it. The date is supposed to be in the middle but I didn’t feel comfortable scrolling such small numbers, I added it a different way.

  21. I have been Scroll Sawing for about six months now. I have always had a interest in woodworking since high school, where I took a couple classes. I had been a very good boy so I got a Scroll Saw for Christmas. I had. No idea what a scroll saw was, or what it could be used for. I did a little research and quickly was hooked. This was my first project I did, which I gave to my Brother In-Law. He likes Dragon Ball-Z, added his initials which is DB.

  22. I found this pattern in an old Wood Magazine. It is done in 1/4”. Around 18 different pieces. Not perfect, but I still think it’s cool!

  23. Nothing to brag about but...my wife wanted this sign for a table in our home entry way so here it is. It is a 2 layer piece, the front being red wood from Lowes and the backer board being 1/4 inch BB Ply painted black, that extends out a little ways that sort of trims it. It is a little hard to see the extended part because of the dark counter top I laid it on for the photo. Just wanted you all to know that I am not out of my shop all the time Dick heppnerguy

    You asked for it

Here is a picture of the project with the burned edges, no finish on it yet, thinking of a couple of cost of Danish oil? I also cut a few napkins holders to remind me of winter. LOL

  36. Funny thing just happened... was getting a package delivered to my doorstep and as the dogs were barking I went over to calm them down and say hello to the postman. He says to me through the door "I'd like to pick your brain some time." I step outside and he says he just got a scroll saw and is figuring out what he wants to make with it. He had seen the various catalogs I receive and of course envelopes on a regular basis from Harvey "Byler Scroll Saw". I asked him if he had a minute right now and invited him into my shop and showed him my puzzle factory. I suggested he visit Wooden Teddy Bear and check out the millions of patterns and ideas out there and told him to email me and I'd point him to other information and ideas (Steve Good for instance). And we thought Facebook knew everything about us... the postal carriers were way ahead of FB on gathering information. LOL He's a total newbie so I'll enjoy answering his questions and helping him out any way that I can.

  41. Well here are my first 2 scroll saw projects ever. Plan on painting these with an airbrush that I don't have yet. Might as well learn them both at the same time. I had fun making these. The squirrel project definitely challenged me . Just used scrap plywood. Patterns from the book wildlife patterns by Lora Irish.

  45. Well seeing as this was my idea I had better show you my first 'project. As you can see it was a small one. My husband had just got himself a scroll saw and I had asked how it worked, he showed me and I was off cutting 'straight' and squiggerly lines. The next week I came across a book of patterns by Patrick Spielman and I loved the penguin, so off I went. I did a couple of others that day, a Scotty dog which I gave to a Scottish girlfriend (she's still got it) and a cat will a ball but unfortunately that disintegrated into about 6 pieces when it fell off the fridge. My little penguin still sits on the fridge and he is 19 years old now. I did some woodburning on him as you can see still no better at it. Marg

  46. This was my first ever scroll saw project, but it needs to be explained. I have worked with my hands most of my life. Built 2 motorhomes in my earlier days, as well as various machines and/or improvements. Took a woodworking class at a trade school & built an oak desk. Time & patience mean absolutely nothing to me. The clock was cut with a $69 Performax saw from Menards. Not visible is the pedestal that made the total height about 6 1/2'. It was given as a housewarming gift to our son in Des Moines, Iowa. To you nice people that hesitate to start what looks like a challenging/difficult piece, just remember it is always 1 hole & cut at a time. It doesn't make any difference if it takes 7 months (as this did), or you start 1 or more projects per day. The amount of sawdust is the same either way. jerry

  47. Fun Topic!! This isn't my first, but the earliest that I found on my facebook page. I noticed some of my early work in my mom's boxes as she moved over the weekend, I'll see if I can find something earlier.

  48. I'll start off. This was my first project. I probably made this around 2007-ish. This was originally a pumpkin stencil that I put onto wood. Cut on birch plywood from Lowes. I don't remember if I used a spiral blade or a flat blade. But this was my maiden voyage. I wanted to get into woodworking, but woodworking can be expensive since you need so many tools. Then I discovered the scroll saw and realized I can do quite a lot with such a simple tool. And thus began my journey.
