And here's the other one
frankorona and 8 others reacted to Foxfold for a topic
This is the second 'big' one and it will be my last, I did not find cutting these a particular pleasure as I struggled on my little saw. I'll stick to doing stuff for me that I like. If anyone else visits us I'm going to hide all my stuff away so no-one can say '' Please can you do me one'' as I find it terribly hard to say ''No'' . Mind you, it always astounds me that anyone would want to buy the stuff I make, it's not a patch on stuff I've seen on here.9 points -
The biggest thing I've done
Scrollcrazy and 6 others reacted to Foxfold for a topic
This is the biggest thing I've ever done in my short life of scrollsaw learning. I did it twice as I wasn't happy with the first one. It's 22" x 9" and was done for a friend for his sisters birthday. I really struggled with it, especially as it wouldn't fit sometimes on my 18" saw. I found trying to cut some of it, when I felt like I was stood 2ft away from my blade, incredibly challenging. I have one more this size to do for him and then I don't think I'll ever do anything this big again, I don't think I could take the stress.7 points -
It's Mario Time!!!!

Everyone say hello to Mario; my homage to the game and level that started it all for many of us in gaming; Super Mario Bros Level 1-1. I cut this by hand using my scroll saw. The woods are all naturally colored without the use of stains. I used Padauk, Yellowheart, Walnut, Bloodwood, Oak, Figured Maple, Sapele, Aspen, Tigerwood and Mahogany. Check out the album to see how I made it (https://imgur.com/a/BeB2nKi). A special thanks to the illustrator, Derek Laufman for letting me work off his Mario illustration.6 points -
I did these Tuesday (Jan. 1). Can’t get much more “first” than that! The eagle feather is part of the 3 that Steve Good offers. I did the other two last year so had to do the 3rd to finish the set. I’m not at all pleased with how the Poplar takes the stain. Someone told me it’s better to paint Poplar. So I’m going to do the eagle and wolf again in Oak to match the Indian. The Love Wine was done from pallets. One is Sycamore the other is Oak, I think. Could be Pine, not sure. I know they were both hard to cut!. Dulled a blade or two on them. The Man Cave is scrap Luan 1/8” plywood. Not my favorite stuff either, won’t be buying that gain. So anyway, here they are!6 points

This is the first item I made for 2019.. made it because I sold it off the website on the 30th of Dec. as it was a made to order item I had listed.. so that is the first thing I made and why I made it... Lame story I know.. Oh.. my first sale of 2019 would be this ornament too.. but it was already made.. Started off my new year making some new clocks ( cut but not finished yet ) so those pictures will be later.. maybe the end of the month.. Also been cutting ornaments that I had sold out of in Dec. to start rebuilding that inventory for next year..4 points

That's the business name the person has who I cut this piece for. I had a stall at markets that she organised just prior to Xmas. She asked me about making a piece for her husband for Christmas, featuring a crocodile. No firm order, and thought I would hear no-more about it. About a week before Christmas she messaged me and asked if I could make something like we talked about. This is the result, Did it all within 3 days and had a very happy customer.3 points -

Grampa's plaque
amazingkevin and one other reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
My wife wanted a new plaque for her wall and she wanted it to have a red backer board and a pretty design. Well, going through some of my patterns. I found this one that was designed and shared by our own, 'grampa'. and when I showed her the pattern, she her eyes lit up and I could hear the excitement in her eyes as she told me that it was perfect and beautiful. So off to the shop I went to cut it. It took longer then I had anticipated and after I had it cut I showed it to her for your approval. "It's beautiful. Now be sure and take your time finishing it for me." I had to admit that I was glad she had said that to me as I tend to hurry through the finishing part on my projects because I get so excited to see it all done and ready to be hung. It came out to be exactly how she wanted it and I was happy with it too. So there you go. Thank you for your generosity of sharing your beautiful pattern for all of us to use. Game of Thrones Backgammon
frankorona and one other reacted to nebur9362 for a topic
Hello everyone!!! First of all, i want to wish you all a happy 2019, and i´m glad to start it with one of the toughest projects that I recently made: this Game of Thrones Backgammon. I played with the lines of the wood, the box it´s made from pine and plywood, and the board it´s from inked plywood: walnut, oak and the natural colour of the plywood. I cutted every single piece, and glue back together in the box. In the outside, I cutted the logos of two houses from the TV show "Game of Thrones": the house Stark and the house Lannister, next to their respective slogans, inked in walnut. The wolf is, literally, a puzzle, and i´m proud of the result. Finally, I pyrograph the surname of the friend for which the game was in the side of the box, and I made the dice of bets too with the same technique. I hope you like it, and I send all of you my best wishes for this new year.2 points -

Any better methods to do this.
WayneMahler reacted to spirithorse for a topic
Hi, Bob, No pics here either but, I hope I can help. Here are two very good examples to find the exact center of your circle. https://www.todayshomeowner.com/how-to-find-the-center-of-a-circle/ https://makezine.com/projects/skill-builder-finding-the-center/ Now that you have the exact center, use any of the lines that are on the edge of your circle and, using a protractor, use one of the intersecting lines you have already drawn on your circle as your starting point and mark off 36 degrees from that point (because you want 10 straight edges in a 360 degree circle). Then, just mark 36 degrees from your new point. Do this all the way around the circle and then join the dots from the 36 degree marks to cut off your straight edges. Here is a description describing the same actions above but, perhaps easier to understand than I could describe it. https://sciencing.com/degrees-circle-7839371.html Good luck and God Bless! Must admit, he coughed up £50 for the pair but after doing them and the challenges they posed for me I should have asked that for each of them1 point -
I only use three fonts and I just put an example of each onto one "word" document that I save. When I need a font I just go to that page, select the example of the font I want and hit enter and on the next line I start typing my new, needed, words. It automatically adjusts to the font of the example I selected.1 point

Nice!!! Easy way to get people to not ask for something is to have a price-list hanging near your work. I've found that folks love stuff until they have to cough up money for it.1 point -

new to the village
amazingkevin reacted to Smitty for a topic
I am Michael Smith from Nebraska. I am new to the Scroll Saw Village but not new to the scroll saw. The old Rockwell Homecraft scroll saw that my dad had when I was a kid was the first powered cutting tool that I was allowed to use. I was about 5 and had to stand on a stool to get up to where I could use it. Well dad has been gone for years, but I still have the saw and I have done a lot with it over the years. A week ago I bought the Dewalt DW788 and got it on December 27. This really opens up a new world for me. I now have control over blade tension and blade changing is a lot easier than with the old saw that is older than I am. not to mention the arm that lifts up...The first thing I did with it was a portrait of Heisenberg from Breaking bad for my son to hang in his office. I am very much interested in making portraits of all the family members as gifts. What I am lacking presently is experience with creating patterns from photographs. I guess I have a learning curve to climb. have Gimp on the computer at home but have not yet tried to do this. My shop is full of about every type of power and hand tool a guy could ever want, having been accumulating it since I was a teenager. I am now 61 and looking forward to retirement and a lot of time spent dong what I love in the shop. I am pleased to finally have a shop in the basement for the last 2 years after having spent my whole life in the garage and contending with the whims of the weather. Mike1 point -

Great work Brenda! My way of dealing with folks who want something made for them is saying: “sure, I’ll make you one, I’ll give you a good price”. This tells them it’s going to cost them. Most of the time they back down on the request!1 point

I'm like a vulture hanging above his next meal. Wrists on table, elbows hanging loose and prefer using just my reader glasses versus the light magnifier which is pushed to the side for the light only unless I really want to see something close. Good posture is definitely not my forte! Of course with being so close, large patterns run into my overstuffed belly and I have to roll the chair back a little.1 point -
If you don't have gazillions of scroll fonts, you can simply create a word document with the alphabet of each of the most common fonts that you use (I only have about five) and save the doc with a useful name like 'dontlosethesefonts' or something. This also allows for quick and easy copy and paste to a new document with your latest "Love" "Believe" "Leave Me Alone" or whatever. Doc from Australia1 point
